I'm done with Maya Banks. I loved Rush. It was HOT & I bought into it. Fever was a hot freaking mess for me. I pre-ordered Burn & had it on my book calendar looking forward to it all summer. I had high hopes Burn would be more Rush, but it quickly went in the direction of Fever.

Ash sees Josie in a park & BOOM is obsessed with her after a 4 minute conversation. Beeyotch, please. Ash tracks her down & blackmails her into having dinner w him. (She pawns her moms jewelry to make rent & he shows up w the jewelry. At the same time all her artwork sells out to one buyer & she can't figure out he's the buyer? Chipmunks have more sense than that.)

On their date Ash lays out that he wants her to be his & wants her submission. I've read 100 of these books & yet I found Ash's I want your submission speech to be confusing. Josie will think about it though. A week later Ash hears from the dude he's hired to stalk Josie that she has a black eye. Ash rushes over & tells Josie she's moving in with him that second & he's going to kill Michael her ex. Yeah..... Listen, when Gideon kills for Ava in Crossfire it's the hottest thing I've ever Read. Gideon did a service to humanity by taking that guy out. Michael the ex hitting Josie was so implausible. He never once laid a hand on her during their relationship & wasn't upset when she broke it off. Then a couple days later stops by to beat her up. Whatever. Ash calls Jace & tells him he's gonna need an alibi and..... sorry this is where I gave up & returned the book to Amazon.

31% in I was just annoyed & there hadn't even been any penetration yet to make up for the ridiculous plot. I have no issue spending $50 to $100 a month downloading books from Amazon. BUT $8.89 for a book that doesn't work for me? Nope. I get why some people would love this, but it didn't work for me. I've got 80 books on my wish list moving on.

I enjoyed the first two books. However, it seems like the last one, BURN, isn't even written by the same author. It was so annoying to me that, constantly, throughout the book the character "ASH" starts sentences with "can't" or "don't", etc. Like the author can't be bothered to started sentences with "I can't" or "I don't". I found myself mentally adding "I" before Ash's statements(much like the character in "FORGED IN STEEL"). While I understand this may be the character's manner of speaking, it is simply not pleasurable to read. Also, the wording of many other sentences seemed backward or like she looked up and used words from the thesaurus that only kind-of worked.

While the story could potentially be pleasant, there was no background or immediate draw. The story is very, very, very slow to begin with and neither character came across like-able. The first book had characters who had a history and the second book immediately started out with an instant draw. This book just doesn't find a hook.

I have read many Maya Banks books, but Burn is a semi-miss for her. This wonderful series should have finished strong.

Ash who? How can you have 2 books with a character and then have him turn into a comletely different character. Ash was the interesting one with what seemed a different outlook on women and life in general. His new relationship should've been the same. The possibilities for this being a very interesting book were there but the author fell way off the mark. Basically she recreated Fever with a little bit of Rush thrown in and accomplished a complete let down.

Also, what is wrong with using personal pronouns in the dialogue? I thought maybe they all talked that way since they grew up together but then so does Josie. It is very distracting, instead of adding depth. I have NEVER not finished a book but really debated it here.

I was a little skeptical going into this book. From what I've gathered about Ash McIntyre in the first two books, he just came off as this laid-back go with the flow kind of guy that just liked sleeping around. He never seemed to understand what first Gabe and then Jace were going through when they fell for Mia and Bethany, respectively.

Before I started this book, he was my least favorite. After finishing it, he is 100% my favorite of the three men! In taking it a step further, I will say that this book is my favorite of the three as well.

I learned early on that I really had no idea who Ash really was. The Ash I thought I knew was not the real Ash. Getting inside his head made it much easier to understand him and I saw a different side of him that others, including Jace and Gabe, never saw. He actually is much more Alpha male than either of the two. He is very blunt, demanding, controlling, protective and incredibly romantic. Like I said NOTHING LIKE I THOUGHT HE WAS.

When the book starts, Ash is sort of lost. His two best friends have settled down with their women and he was the last one to live by their "live free, play hard" motto. But, he started wondering if that was enough for him after watching Gabe and Jace fall head of heels in love and seem happier than they have ever been. As he is pondering this, he sees Josie and something about her intrigued him. He wanted her.

But Josie wasn't a damsel in distress like Bethany nor was she an innocent young girl like Mia. Josie is no stranger to dominant/submissive relationships yet something about Ash both intrigued and terrified her simultaneously. Ash was intense and he was prepared to give her everything, but take everything in return. Could she take that leap with him?
