Join bestselling, award-winning author Suzanne Woods Fisher for an Amish Christmas to remember.
Billy Lapp is far away from his Amish roots working as a rose rustler for Penn State and wants nothing to do with Stoney Ridge. And that suits Bess Riehl just fine. Why should she think twice about a man who left without a word of explanation? It's time she moved on with her life, and that meant saying yes when Billy's cousin Amos proposed--for the third time--and beginning to plan for her Christmas wedding.
When a "lost" rose is discovered in a forgotten corner of the greenhouse at Rose Hill Farm, Billy is sent to track down its origins. His plan is to get in, identify the rose, and get out. The only catch is that he's having a hard time narrowing down the identity of the lost rose--and he can't get Bess Riehl out of his mind.
As the history of the lost rose is pieced together, it reminds Bess and Billy--and Amos too--that Christmas truly is the season of miracles.
From the Back Cover
Bess found herself remembering what Billy had looked like as a young man of eighteen. He was still every bit as gloriously handsome as he had always been--but the roguish twinkle in his eyes was gone. His face was drawn tighter than the lids of Mammi's rose petal jam jars. It seemed as if he could barely tolerate being here, as if she and all of Stoney Ridge were nothing but a great inconvenience to him.
Then why was he here?
The rose, of course, which gave her a small measure of comfort. The Billy Lapp she once knew would go to any length for a rose.
In no particular order, Suzanne Woods Fisher is a wife, mother, writer, lifelong student of the Bible, raiser of puppies for Guide Dogs for the Blind, a gardener and a cook...the latter two with sporadic results.
Suzanne has loved to write since she was a young teen. After college, she started to write for magazines and became a contributing editor for Christian Parenting Today magazine. Her family moved to Hong Kong for four years, just as the internet was developing, and she continued to write articles in a 44-story high-rise apartment, sending manuscripts 7,000 miles away with a click of a key.
After returning from Hong Kong, Suzanne decided to give her first novel a try. For four and a half months, she worked on an antediluvian computer in a cramped laundry room. She didn't even tell her husband what she was up to. When the novel was completed, she told her family at dinner one night that she had written a book. "That's why there's no food in this house!" said her slightly insensitive sons.
Undaunted...Suzanne found a small royalty publisher for that book and wrote three more (all earned multiple awards). With help from an agent, she went on to sign contracts with Revell Books for twenty plus books.
Writing, for Suzanne, is a way to express a love of God and His word. With every book or article, she hopes readers get a sense of what faith really looks like in the daily grind. She hopes they realize that life can be hard, but God is good, and never to confuse the two.

I've been a huge lover of roses and not quite sure where it came from. In fact, my husband understands that I would rather have a rose plant over a dozen of roses any day. Why? Because they will continue to produce blooms long after that dozen cut roses dies. And it is a constant reminder of the time they were purchased as my love gardens continues to grow.
I've been a huge fan of Suzanne Woods Fisher and her ability to capture the love of the reader for all things Amish. So whenever I see her books available for review and add in the element of a Christmas novel, and toss in the love of gardening roses for good measure, well I absolutely knew I had to have this one. And I was NOT disappointed in the slightest. This has all the elements of what I am looking for in a great Amish love story. A plot twist, a love that is just waiting to be discovered despite all the odds against them, and a love of something that will draw the characters together. That is just what you find tucked beneath the beautiful cover of Christmas at Rose Hill Farm.
Bill Lapp has left his former Amish life behind as he works as a rose rustler at Penn State. Meaning it is his job to help discover roses that can't be identified and to also help cultivate lasting ones to be shared by rose lovers all over the world. You could say he is the rose expert. He simply walked away from a potential relationship with Bess Riehl when it seemed she had fallen into the same opinion of him as his father and brothers. It was simply better to try and find a new start someplace far from his feelings and his heart.
Bess Riehl is hoping that her upcoming wedding to Amos Lapp will enable her to move forward with a man who truly loves her and will do anything to make sure she is well taken care of.Read more ›

So happy to be back at Rose Hill Farm and at Christmas time, visiting with old friends, and back in familiar surroundings. Bess is still helping on the beloved Rose Farm, along with her Dad, and she is planning her wedding to Amos. This story revolves around a mysterious, and possibly rare and very valuable rose, which has been found, about to bloom in the greenhouse. Where had it come from, that is going to be the question that brings back a lost soul to the Amish community? Once Billy Lapp comes back to see the rose, acting as a Rose Rustler for Penn State, the world begins to change for Beth. Will they be able to discover the origins of this rose, and will old feeling come to climax? There are a few really good chuckles in this story, and a lot of serious actions that are unaccounted for. We go back into the past for some of the answers, and feel the pain Billy has endured that emanates from his family. I don’t know if there is another book that will answers more of these questions, but Billy ends up with a big assignment from his Dad. We see that couples that think they belong together, might be better off with someone else, while some that are together don’t really know one another. We also have some very sweet and precocious children, they are Beth’s sisters, how darling they are, and they say it like it is! This is a really great page-turning read, with some really good life lessons, I enjoyed this one!

Is it too early to be in the Christmas mood? Well, I just finished reading Suzanne Woods Fisher’s Christmas at Rose Hill Farm and I don’t think so. This novel offers a heartwarming love story as it captures the holiday’s warm feelings of home and family. It is a wonderful story to read – even in the middle of September.
After several years apart, an unidentifiable rose brings Bess Riehl and Billy Lapp back together for what seems like a second chance at love. (I assume their relationship began in The Search, though I have yet to read that novel. Luckily, Fisher provides enough references and flashbacks to easily understand what happened in the past and how it affects the present.) The two feel drawn together by their remaining feelings, but stubborn pride, guilt and of course, Bess’ engagement to Amos Lapp separate them. As they wait for the rose to bloom, both Bess and Billy work through the complications of their pasts and presents and find the value of forgiveness and faith just in time for Christmas.
A sweet story, Christmas at Rose Hill Farm is an enjoyable read, perfect for the approaching Christmas season. I recommend this novel to lovers of Amish fiction and especially to those who already met Bess and Billy in The Search.

I really enjoyed this well-written, touching Christmas story! I liked all of the characters, hurting for Bess and Billy as they mourn a lost love, but also for Amos as he wonders if Bess truly loves him. There were some cute romantic moments, but also some heartbreaking ones. It was interesting to see how the present day story, in 1977, would fill in with memories of their past as the book travels back and forth from the '60's and early '70's to 1977. I understood more of the characters as I saw what they experienced. The character of George was very cool and I did kind of figure out who he was almost right away, but that didn't take away from my enjoyment as I wondered if I would be right. I loved the themes of coming home, forgiveness, and that "God is faithful even when we are not." I don't know much about roses and it was fascinating to learn about the hunt for rare or extinct varieties. Readers of the author's other books might recognize some of the characters, which was a lot of fun! This was one of the more enjoyable Amish books I've read and I would highly recommend it for both Amish fiction lovers and those looking for a heartwarming Christmas story.
I received this book free from Litfuse Publicity in exchange for an honest review.
