Yes! I have found another author who can write a good paranormal romance with a gargoyle as the hero. Actually, Ms. Warren has written a great gargoyle romance, so I am beside myself with glee. To top it off, she gives readers a LOT of action as Felicity and Spar work together to fight the Darkness and even more action as their attraction to one another is undeniable. And she does it in a full-length novel.

Felicity is a trip. Her inner musings kept me chuckling regularly; even when the situation was intense and frightening, she never failed to make me laugh. She has one of those “larger-than-life” personalities and she needs it to deal with Spar. When Spar wakes up from his gargoyle sleep, Felicity’s assumption that she has lost her mind is just one of the many sources of amusement she provides … that is, after they manage to not die in the explosion. Fortunately for Spar, Felicity has a bit of magic so she is able to accept his existence faster than the average human would. When they realize that she was marked for one of the seven, Spar vows to protect her and ultimately she accepts his protection. Their close quarters ramp up the pull they have for one another and this makes for some rather enjoyable reading when nature takes over; it definitely gives new meaning to the phrase “hard as a rock.”

Stone Cold Lover is the second book in the Gargoyles series and it can easily be read as a stand-alone without feeling lost in the story, at least I never felt lost. That said, I plan to go back and read book one, Heart of Stone, as I would love the backstory on Kees and Ella’s meeting. Ms. Warren has created an interesting world of gargoyles and magic with a great cast of characters.

Stone Cold Lover by Christine Warren is the 2nd book in her Gargoyles series. I did not read the first book in the series, and this was not a problem, as this read so well as a standalone. We get to meet the leading characters from the first book, which was cool, and also making me want to read this first book, especially after discovering how much I enjoyed Christine Warren’s writing. Stone Cold Lover is a paranormal suspense, but such a fun and humorous read, as well as very exciting, and very sexy.

Fil (Felicity) is our heroine, and she was such a fun one at that. When helping Ella (our first book heroine), Fil goes to the museum in Montreal to look for a Gargoyle statue. She sneaks in after hours, and becomes mesmerized by the statue. While she is there, someone else comes in looking for the same statue and attacks her. All of a sudden there is glow, and the huge stuatue comes to life. After a battle, the now live Guardian (Gargoyle) saves Fil.

Spar, is a Guardian, to protect humans against the seven powerful demons, who are locked away. The Guardians are asleep as the statue for hundreds of years, until their assigned Warden wakes them up, if they are needed. As a Gargoyle, he is 7 feet tall, with wings; but he transforms into his human self, and when Fil gets a look at him, she is speechless. Of course, Fil is never speechless, and shows that to Spar as he follows her home, after he rescues her. She is now his responsibility to protect, as he tries to discover why he was awakened. Fil confuses him, but makes us laugh at her constant cursing or nick names she calls him. Pretty funny.

Fil now finds herself in the world of evil, demons, magic and constant threats against her life.

Stone Cold Lover by Christine Warren is the second book in her Gargoyle series. I haven’t read the first book, Heart of Stone, but I had no troubles following the storyline in this one. Stone Cold Lover grabbed my attention from the first page with the amusing inner dialog of the heroine, Fil (Felicity). She is an interesting character with a prickly temperament, often times sarcastic, snarky and slightly less often bitchy. I laughed out loud several times thanks to her. She uses her attitude as a defense mechanism to hide when she is feeling, hurt, nervous or scared. Underneath all the bravado and attitude is a woman with a good heart and a strong strength of will. I liked her and I enjoyed her romance with Spar, the hero. Spar is a Guardian, a Gargoyle. One of seven Guardians charged with the protection of humans from the “Darkness”. Darkness is basically pure evil in the form of seven Demons. When the Darkness threatens humans a Guardian is awoken to destroy/banish it from the earthly plane.

Unfortunately, The Order, human disciples that work for the Darkness, has been killing off the human Wardens of the Guardians and their next step is to find and kill sleeping Guardians. Fil meets Spar when she accidentally awakens him during an attempt of The Order to destroy him. The two pair off and the fun begins in earnest. There is danger, magic and murder. The race is on to try and stop The Order’s evil plan of mayhem and death. Along the way Spar and Fil are drawn to each other both physically and emotionally.

Spar is a fascinating character. He’s a great hero, protective, possessive, stoic, and sweet. He doesn’t quite know what to make of Fil when he first meets her, but he’s a quick study and it’s not long before he begins to understand her.
