Julianne Donaldson grew up as the daughter of a U.S. Air Force fighter pilot. How can you want to devour and savor a book, all at the same time? I finished Blackmoore in one night; I couldn't bear to put it down. It was SO worth the wait. I am speechless...this is probably my new all-time favorite book, and I don't say that lightly because I read ALL the time, almost all genres. Beautiful, compelling, haunting, sweet, extravagantly passionate but scrupulously clean, and so much more. If you've missed Edenbrooke, her debut novel, it is not to be missed, either! I will be reading these over and over again, and can't imagine how I will be able to wait a year for another book of hers to come out. This is one talented lady!

Julianne does it again! Edenbrooke was amazing and Blackmoore is equally so. A completely different story. Yet the characters are developed just as well they feel real. You feel like you are sitting in the same room experiencing everything with them. Within the first chapter I was drawn in and had to finish just 9 hours after it was delivered to my door! I don't want to give anything away but I will say I love the interaction between the two main characters.
Clean and beautiful! I laughed out loud just like I did in Edenbrooke!
Enjoy it! So worth it. It is a keeper!

This book was heartrendingly lovely. I loved--still do and have read at least three times--Edenbrook by Julianne Donaldson, but it was nowhere near the caliber of Blackmoore for me. There were times I felt like I was reading a classic. The symbolism and metaphor's strung throughout were very elegantly done. The way the story unfolded was unexpected and took me from not really caring for Kate (MC) in the beginning--I admire and prefer strong-willed heroines, but only when what they do makes sense and is based on a deeper wisdom--to completely and totally getting and sympathizing with her. I picked this book up expecting something more like Edenbrook, but Blackmore is NOT Edenbrook in the least. Edenbrook was much lighter, like an Austen novel. For Blackmoore, think more along the lines of the Gothic tone of Jane Eyre, but with Eliza Bennett's seriously embarrassing family . . . x10. Donaldson did a fantastic job of capturing and personifying Blackmoore so that it was a character in and of itself, and the tone of the book lingered with me for several days, it was so potent. Jane Eyre was the last book I read that effected me this much with it's intense emotion and heartbreaking love story. One of my all time favorites from a current author. Donaldson earned all five stars for this one from me. I can't wait to see what she comes up with next.

I love Edenbrooke. I read it four times in one week. I could not put it down. I would finish it and then start all over again. I raved about it to all of my friends, and read it aloud to my sisters. If you have not read that book, go get a copy now. I waited anxiously for Blackmoore, certain that it would be another winner. I was a bit disappointed. I couldn't really relate to Kate in the beginning of the book. She seemed cold, and emotionless. Her determination not to get married, and her apparent blindness to Henry's feelings were a bit too much for me. By the time I realized why she didn't want to get married, it was too late. I was already about 80% into the book, and had spent that much time annoyed with her character. There wasn't any of the fun banter that we saw between the main characters in Edenbrooke. There was no fun and laughter. This was a dark, depressing book, with some romance sprinkled in. And the two main characters didn't have too many scenes together. I'm glad I read it, but it isn't as good as I thought it would be. I won't be neglecting my responsibilities to read, and reread this book. Once was enough.

I loved Edenbrooke so I was very excited about the release of Blackmoore. This story is just as beautiful. There is more conflict in it but the circumstances of that conflict contribute to the triumph of the characters. Don't want to spoil the ending so that's all I will say. I read it and then couldn't help but reread it and the many layers of the story were even more endearing the second time. Oh, and if you think Elizabeth Bennet had her hands full with her mother, sisters and Lady Catherine de Bourgh, wait until you meet Kate's mother/sisters and Henry's mother/aunt!

I absolutely LOVED Edenbrooke and Blackmoore was just as great. I loved the story, the characters, the clean romance. I will read it again and again. It was difficult to wait for this book to make it to me but once it did I read it through the night. I hope she writes another book soon. She is an amazing author!

This book really spoke to my soul. I absolutely loved the main characters, Kate and Henry. Their history together was so compelling.
I love Julianne Donaldson as an author. I appreciate so much that she writes a squeaky clean romance. I definitely would read more from her. I hope she can be a good influence on other authors and publishers. We need more books like this!

I liked the author's 1st book, Edenbrook but thought Blackmoore was poor in comparison. The characters were all annoying, including Kate/Katherine/Kitty (the name thing drove me crazy and was juvenile). Too much angst throughout the book; if Kate wanted to go to India so badly why didn't she just do what she did at the end of the book - go to London and leave with her aunt, saving us all the misery of reading over and over about how she had to go to India throughout this book. The mother was almost like a cartoon villain along with the sisters who were just awful! And Kate's best friend, Sylvia, acted like a total snob along with half the characters in the book. The story just went along without explaining any of the reasons Henry's mother disliked Kate until the last part of the book. Some of the parts of the story made no sense to me; the whole thing with the grandfather was unnecessary, what was the point? The only chapter I liked in the book was the last one.
I found the story depressing and I'm sorry I read it. Also, I know that this book is called a "proper romance" but waiting until the very end of the book for the characters to kiss is ridiculous. A very unsatisfactory story. I don't plan on reading the next book by this author unless it's much improved.
