Bone Deep by Debra Webb is a Pink House publication. This book was released in 2013. I picked this one up in the Kindle lending library. Jill's twin sister, Kate is in the hospital, horribly beaten, catatonic, and accused of killing her husband and hurting her child. But, Jill, an attorney, is certain there must be a mistake. Calling on an old friend for help, she is introduced to Paul. Paul is gifted with the extra sensory perception that enables him to get a feeling about what is going on with people. But, he is tormented by a mistake that cost people their lives. He no longer works for the FBI, but does his old friend a favor by meeting with Jill. Returning to her hometown, Jill is reminded of why she left in the first place. Her mother hasn't left her home since her father died, the mayor can't stand her and everyone else always confuses her with Kate. The entire town seems on edge, as though they know something about Kate and her son they aren't willing to share. Even Jill's mother behaves as if Jill should just drop the whole thing and quit making waves. The only person that seems to think Jill has a point, is Paul. However, the two of them don't really get off to a good start with one another. But, when Jill's probing gets the town stirred up, Jill finds she is in danger. One way or another Jill has to be shut up. This was a taut suspense novel that reminds us that we should never forget the past. History can repeat itself and often does. So, before you begin to think the plot is so much science fiction, go back and do a little research about experiments on twins in the Nazi concentration camps. The premise was chilling. It is possible that some private organizations could fund such experiments today.Read more ›

This book was recommended to me after I finished reading The Artisan: An Artistic Assassin Thriller which was also an EXCELLENT read. I was completely captivated with the authors descriptive writing style and imagination. At first I paused on making the purchase thinking it would be too disturbing for me to read, but the author did a fine job with balancing the emotional rollercoaster to leave me with a happy heart. Great book!

A husband is murdered, a son is missing, the wife is allegedly the killer. In this small town a la stepford wife, a terrible secret has a strong grip on its residents. The chief of police seemingly is trying to get to the bottom of this murder mystery. Jill, a successful driven attorney, usually at odds with her parents, the complete opposite of the twin sister who is also the alleged murderer is going to need a miracle to uncover the truth. In steps Dr. Paul Phillips. This troubled man has a gift or a curse depending upon how sober he is when ask. He agrees to review Jill’s case to settle an old debt but five minutes in Paradise and he knows he has made a monumental mistake. This is the kind of case that broke him once before and he has no desire to go down that dark path again. But there’s something about Jill that won’t let him walk away. Paul’s ability to sense what others cannot once made him a legend…but he’s not that man anymore. Yet somehow Jill makes him yearn to be the miracle she desperately needs.
After reading the synopsis of the story, I couldn't wait to get it. The suspense and action kept me riveted to the story from the first chapter. I suspected who the guilty parties were at about half way through the book. Nonetheless, despite the flaws of the main characters or perhaps because of them, they were very likable and you couldn't help but root for them. As they unravel the mystery and unthinkable horror of this town, they both fight their personal demons. Though this is not a romance novel in the standard sense of such a genre, it did have romance and a happy ending, or is it truly. The ending left an opening for another book which I will gladly read if and when it is written.

This was a strange read for me as Katherine Manning (including the unusual spelling of Katherine) is the name of my daughter.
This is a can't put it down read. Lots of twists and action. Debra Webb just keeps getting better (although nothing is a good as her Colby series.)

Love her books! She always keeps me hooked! This book's plot explores scary real life possible consequences of our advancement in medical research and shows the determination to save one's family can overcome impossible odds. I was engrossed all the way to the end.

Science fiction mixed with suspense and intrigue, a good combination. The story of Jill and Paul and how thru intrigue they met and fell for each other. Human experiments, cloning and intrigue presented a very interesting plot. The story was fast paced and very engaging, it kept my interest. A good read.

I just finished a book called Bone Deep by a local writer, Debra Webb. I have read many of her books and so far, they have all been good reads. She often uses Huntsville and Birmingham as locations for her books. I find it interesting to be reading a book and knowing where everything is located. The two lead characters are a burned out Doc and a successful lawyer. Together they discover secrets of the town and the evil experiments carried out by an unholy group of inhuman science monsters. Of course there is a love story here too. As it gets to the fast paced ending it becomes clear that there will be at least one more book and I can't wait for it. This is another 5 for Ms. Webb.
