More About the Author

NEW YORK TIMES/USA TODAY BESTSELLING AUTHOR

Tara Sue Me wrote her first novel at the age of twelve. It would be twenty years before she picked up her pen to write the second.

After completing several clean romances, she decided to try her hand at something spicier and started The Submissive. What began as a writing exercise quickly took on a life of its own and The Dominant and The Training soon followed. An avid reader of all types of fiction, she soon discovered she enjoyed writing a variety as well.

Tara lives in the Southeastern United States with her husband, two children, two dogs, and a cat.

Ok so I have to admit I was little skeptical about this book, knowing that his was the same story... just from Nathaniels POV. I mean, how different could it be right? I had to read it out of pure curiosity. Could it in fact bring anything new to the story/series? Would we really be reading THE EXACT SAME thing? The answer, ABSOLUTELY NOT. While it did have the same key points... which DUH it has to!...In my opinion it shed some new light on the story. I had no idea in the first book just how in love and how smitten he was with Abigail, I really didn't. And to see everything through his eyes and with is emotions in play was just so much fun to read! AND made me love him even more!!
Like my title says. I was PLEASANTLY SURPRISED and I can't wait to get into #3 to see how it all wraps up.

I'd like to go on the record by saying that though I am familiar with this trilogy, I have not read book one. This review will be based solely on the writing of book two, The Dominant. I am severely torn with my rating of this book, hovering between a three and a four. Ultimately, my inexplicable addiction to this book made me round up.

I'd like to get the faults with this book out of the way. Because yes, there are faults, and they are plentiful. If you are new to the BDSM scene, please, please, do not look to this book for an example of how D/s relationships should be run. Nathaniel West makes crucial mistakes, such as neglecting aftercare, answering this new sub's questions, and being 100% honest with his sub. These are red flags. What gave me the ability to put these mistakes at bay, is the fact that new the end of the book he acknowledges them. This can also be said about the fact that he never really trains her in this book. It's more of a natural submission. Book three is entitled The Training, and with the way The Dominant ends, I am going to give it the benefit of the doubt that these things are picked. I'm also keeping in mind that this is fictional- liberties are allowed to be taken for the sake of plot.

Another brief note, at time the time lapsing for this book was a bit jagged and random. It didn't interfere with my reading too much, but should still be noted.

I adore that this book is from the Dom's perspective. Often times, my issue with this new trend of BDSM-style erotic literature is that I find the girls to be whiny and stupid. But, because this was from Nathaniel's view point, I was unable to hear the girl's thoughts, and I rather enjoyed that aspect.

"I was changing all my rules for [Abby]. And she didn't even know it." -Nathaniel West

"The Dominant" is book two in "The Submissive Trilogy" by Tara Sue Me. This acts as a companion novel to book one ("The Submissive") because it covers the same storyline as the first book, only now it is told from Nathaniel's POV. But don't let that scare you away! I was nervous that nothing new would be covered here than in the first, but I can assure you that reading this installment insures you will go into reading the final installment with a deeper and more developed sense of who Nathaniel truly is. Being able to see things from his perspective in this book served to make an already fantastic hero into an even deeper and more dynamic character!

A captivating, romantic, and smartly-written book; I would argue this trilogy is shaping up to be what FSOG SHOULD have been! Both characters are somewhat afraid of a "traditional" relationship; they've tried it in the past with other partners and have been left unsatisfied. Believing that perhaps they can only find satisfaction in a strict dom/sub dynamic they begin their relationship in this capacity. As their journey together unfolds however, they eventually begin to move towards the idea that perhaps they can have both a dom/sub relationship while also trying to incorporate a more "traditional" dating relationship. The novel chronicles the ups and downs of Abby & Nathaniel's journey towards cultivating a relationship in which they can both feel free to be their true selves.

The friends/family that support Abby and Nathaniel's burgeoning relationship add a lot to the fantastic dynamic within the entire book (I love Elaina!).

I love this series so far but have to admit that I was a little disappointed to discover that this was the same book as The Submissive, only in Nathaniel's POV. There were several differences simply because you are getting his side of the story but with the way The Submissive left off.... I was hoping for more. Still a great story though, I don't care whose POV it is told in!! I received an ARC from NetGalley for an honest review.

I'm angry. I liked the story, a lot actually and I'm so mad that I purchased this book. I liked this story the first time I read it when it was titled The Submissive. To me, no matter that it's fro m the Dominant's perspective it's still the same story. That I paid for, twice. So I'm angry. I have a limited budget for my reading habit and paying for the same story twice just doesn't strike me as a smart use of said budget. So regardless of the fact that I'm glad that I was able to experience this story from the Master's point of view had I realized this beforehand I would have used the money spent on a 'new' story instead. Sorry Ms. Sue Me for the angry review, but you asked. And yes, I will most likely read the next book in the series, after my anger has cooled a bit.
