When I'm looking for a quick, light-hearted, funny read, I'll often grab a well-loved Jennifer Crusie or Kristan Higgins. New author Tracy Brogan is definitely getting added to the list. I thought "Crazy Little Thing" was a hoot! I laughed out loud so many times that my husband started giving me the stink eye. The dialogue between characters may have been a little over the top sometimes, but other times was so real that I felt like the author had listened in conversations I've had with my own friends (a band of smart-mouth, sarcastic chicks if there ever was one). Were there some character cliches? Sure, but it didn't make it any less funny. The book had its quiet moments too, which made for a nice breather in between antics. If I want a serious, deep, insightful read, I'll grab War & Peace (has anyone ever actually read that book?). If I want to laugh and sigh and dream about a gorgeous Scottish hunk who inexplicably falls madly in love with me, I'll come back to Tracy Brogan.

Crazy Little Thing -- When her divorce is final, Sadie Turner packs her kids up and heads to the beach town of Bell Harbor, Michigan to try and regroup while visiting her eccentric Aunt Dody. Enter the handsome single neighbor, her two adult cousins who are also living at home, and her scheming ex and you have the recipe for an at times laugh-out-loud romance. I'll admit that the beginning dragged. Sadie is not immediately likable - she's grumpy and so locked in a pity party about her divorce that you want to reach in the pages and throttle her rather than keep turning them. She does get some better, but all the characters tended toward predictable and stereotypical. Despite that, it's a fun, fluffy, fast read that hits the spot if that's what you're looking for.

I loved this contemporary romance! With a sympathetic heroine, a super-hot hero, and a cast of secondary characters that makes you want to read the whole book in one sitting, Crazy Little Thing has it all. Engaging, quick read that had me laughing out loud in places. The author's voice is witty and engaging-- not to be missed!

What a fun story!!
Bring together a very recently divorced Sadie with her Aunt Dody, brothers Jasper and Fontaine, and Des, a real hunky emergency room doctor in Bell Harbor, Michigan and you have the makings of a good romance story. Add that Sadie brings her 4 and 6 year old children as she escapes into her aunt's dotty attitude and malapropisms and the fact that Fontaine is gay and it begins to look even more interesting. Sadie's whole family seems dedicated to double-entendres, smart remarks and stories of misspent youth, while her daughter Paige's misunderstanding of adult humor leaves you rolling on the floor laughing.
Aunt Dody and Fontaine are dedicated to matchmaking with Sadie and Des. That is greatly complicated by Sadie's emphatic decision to never fall in love or marry again and Des' role as a temporary fill-in for the regular emergency room doctor. Sadie and Fontaine both find Des tremendously attractive. Since Sadie's ex-husband Richard has successfully torn apart Sadie's self esteem, she enters into a friendship with Des afraid of her own shadow. She second-guesses both her own and Des's actions and words, always putting the worst possible spin on them.
This is a well-written light-hearted romp with a truly dysfunctional cast of characters. I loved it!

I had so much fun reading this book, it was romantic & real & really funny. I love books that make me laugh out loud - in public- so that people look at me & wonder. I'm so sure they wanted to peek at the title so they could rush right out & get their own copy it would be that good. And I realized, too, that other people have an Aunt Do die, gifts love that!!

Tracy Brogan's Crazy Little Thing is a wonderful book that had me literally laughing out loud at one point then getting so irritated with the main character, Sadie, then next. When I started the book it started sounding like a lot of other contemporary romance novels out there, but the descriptions of Sadie's family particularly her Aunt Dody had you hooked (don't we all have one of those "crazy" aunts?)
After Sadie's marriage ends when she finds her husband cheating on her, she leaves for the summer vacation to her aunt's house on Lake Michigan. She is hoping to get some R&R and wallow in self despair. She ends up getting none of this, but it quickly becomes the best summer of her life.
This is a great read for anyone who enjoys contemporary romance novels - or looking for a "beach read".

Sadie caught her hubby with his hand up a co-worker's skirt and mistletoe dangling from his crotch. Suddenly all the past uneasy thoughts and suspicions were validated. Fast forward a little over a year later and the divorce is final. Sadie is headed to her crazy aunt Dody's house on Lake Michigan for a summer vacation with her 2 kids.
Sadie spends her days watching the sexy Scottish Doctor neighbor, Des, jog, while trying to convince herself she isn't interested in him romantically.
Crazy Little Thing is filled with jokes, craziness and a family I felt right at home with. They are lovable in their eccentricities, yet still so everyday normal! Had Aunt Dody not been so flighty she could have been my aunt. Her cluttered, lovable and free spiritedness was so familiar and heartwarming to me.
The romance between Des and Sadie is adorable and real. It is filled with all the excitement of new relationships and all the fumbles that happen when you really start to get to know someone.
As much as I loved the laughs, the family and Des and Sadie's romance, there is something that held me back from completely falling under this book's spell. I can't quite put my finger on it as I don't think the current content is lacking, it's that there is a depth or layer of the story that was never explored or added. I feel like there is a layer of emotion or feeling that was left out. All the right ingredients, it just wasn't nurtured to its full potential - If that makes any sense.
The author hails from Michigan, my home state. As a fellow Michigander I feel the need to point out that the Edmund Fitzgerald went down in Lake Superior, not Erie.Read more ›
