Praise for The Daughter of Highland Hall:

“In The Daughter of Highland Hall, Carrie Turansky sweeps readers back into the early nineteen hundreds, to the glamour of London society as well as the desperate world of those struggling to survive in London’s East End. This beautiful story is filled with endearing characters who will steal your heart and surprises that will keep you engrossed until the very end.”
—Melanie Dobson, award-winning author of Chateau of Secrets and The Courier of Caswell Hall

“From London’s East End to the royal presentation court, Carrie Turansky pulls back the curtain on Edwardian England in this sweeping new drama. The Daughter of Highland Hall will delight romance fans as well as those who like a peek behind the scenes into the lives of the elite and the people who serve them. A delight from the first page to the last.”
—Carla Stewart, award-winning author of Stardust and The Hatmaker’s Heart

“Giving vivid entry into an Edwardian England setting, from genteel ballrooms to the gritty streets of London’s East End, author Carrie Turansky has created a cast of multilayered, delightfully written characters I found engaging from beginning to end. The Daughter of Highland Hall is at its heart a story of personal courage, one sure to please fans of Turansky’s The Governess of Highland Hall, as well as readers coming fresh to the series with this book.”
—Lori Benton, author of Burning Sky and The Pursuit of Tamsen Littlejohn

“From first line to last, The Daughter of Highland Hall is a sumptuous Edwardian feast, brimming with romance, history, and spiritual truths. Society and its glitter fade away as what truly matters comes into play. A delightful addition to the Edwardian Brides series!”
—Laura Frantz, author of Love’s Fortune

“The Daughter of Highland Hall sweeps readers back to historic London where a cast of endearing characters work toward a heart-stirring cause. With excitement happening both upstairs and down, this charming romance is a beautiful addition to Carrie Turansky’s Edwardian Brides series and a reminder that the greatest joys can arrive in the unlikeliest of ways.”
—Joanne Bischof, award-winning author of the Cadence of Grace series

“A debutante. A medical missionary. Two disparate worlds. The Daughter of Highland Hall celebrates God’s ability to open eyes and soften hearts.”
—Mona Hodgson, author of nearly forty books for adults and children, including the Sinclair Sisters of Cripple Creek series, the Quilted Heart novellas, and Prairie Song

“The Daughter of Highland Hall is a compelling Edwardian love story that crosses class divides, where characters learn that snagging a titled and wealthy spouse is not the first concern of life. Carrie Turansky’s meticulously researched and beautifully written novel lifts the heart, drawing the reader closer to Christ and reminding her of the possibilities of a faithdriven marriage. Characters that inspire readers to rekindle their romance with the Lord of life as well as with their own husband… How many books can do that?”
—Cathy Gohlke, Christy Award–winning author of Promise Me This and Band of Sisters

I cannot wait for book 3 of the Edwardian Brides series, A Refuge at Highland Hall when it releases in October 2015.

This book follows Kate Ramsey's debut into society, an event that will, hopefully secure her a marriage proposal, which is the desire of every young debutante.

This is my favourite sort of book - one in which God transforms lives and we see wonderful growth in character and purpose.

The Daughter of Highland Hall picks up where The Governess of Highland Hall left off, London April 1912; where Carrie Turansky takes us back in time and describes in great detail what it means to be a young girl coming of age, making her debut into society and being presented to the Queen and King. Kate's aunt, Lady Louisa Gatewood believes she knows what is best for Kate; a marriage proposal by the end of the season; but is that really the right plan and path for Kate?

Ms. Turansky does a wonderful job of describing everything with such detail from the characters, their emotions and feelings, their strengths and their struggles, how they dress, the homes they live in, and the events of the era that they attend. Ms. Turansky draws us into the story with such ease, making us feel as if we are really there, in the midst of the story that is unfolding.
Our young girl faces many challenges, decisions and changes throughout her journey as does her family and friends. Kate interacts with people in all stations of life and does it with such grace.
Ms. Turansky also does a wonderful job of bringing the spiritual side of life into her story and we are able to watch young Kate on her journey of not knowing God to discovering what it is to have faith in God; to trust and follow God's plan for her life over what her family and society believes to be the right path or direction for her. She learns to seek and trust God first, in all things. Including whom to marry, where to live and what to do with her life. Ms. Turansky isn't preachy, but truthful.

I do not want to wait, but wait I must, for book three of the Edwardian Brides Series, A Refuge at Highland Hall to be released in October 2015. (12 months and counting!

"The Daughter of Highland Hall" by Carrie Turansky reads like you are watching an episode of Downton Abbey with different characters and a different setting, which makes this book so enjoyable. I believe any reader of a clean Christian romance would like these books whether a fan of Downton Abbey or not. The little background that is added from book "The Governess of Highland Hall" book 1 in the (Edwardian Brides series) is just enough to refresh the reader's memory. Even though this book is part of a series it can be read as a standalone but I encourage you to read book 1 so you will know William and Julia's love story.

I loved "The Governess Of Highland Hill" and "The Daughter of Highland Hall" is just as exciting!
I was hooked into this story from the first sentence!

Once again the scenery details are just enough to make you see it in your mind.

There are a few characters that makes this reader want to shake them and "yell you are a fool and why are you making life so difficult for your family members?" Then there are the favorites from " The Governess Of Highland Hill" that you just want to reach in the book itself and give them a hug and a handshake and become friends with.

From the beginning of the story Jonathan, Julia's brother, the governess from "The Governess of Highland Hall"has an attraction for Katherine Ramsey but she isn't interested in him because she wants a marriage proposal from a titled peer with a family estate, or at least she doesn't want to admit it. Not only does Katherine not want to accept the attraction, other family members are against the match especially Kate's Aunt Louisa!

Those who have read book one will enjoy returning to the lives of the characters who endeared themselves to us. However, if you have not read The Governess of Highland Hall, never fear, you will be able to read this book as a stand alone. I do recommend reading book one first as it is a lovely story, and sets the stage nicely for book two.

Katherine “Kate” Ramsey is ready to make her debut in society. With an overbearing aunt as her sponsor, Kate finds herself faced with many rules to follow and high expectations placed upon her to make a “suitable” match. I like Kate and sympathize with the tough choices she has to make. Great emphasis is placed on encouraging wealthy suitors who are members of the upper crust of society.

Jonathan Foster is a medical student with some big decisions on the horizon. He was raised in a missionary family. With three possible options for his future, he is determined to follow God’s leading as to where his talents should be used. His plans don’t include falling for a debutante who appears to value position in society above all else.

I really enjoyed watching Kate grow as she faced the repercussions of a scandal that rocked her family’s place in society. I loved seeing Jon and Kate grow closer together as they worked to help those less fortunate than themselves. Kate grew so much in this book and Jon was a wonderful example to her of a godly man.

The author does such a nice job of writing a story in which the characters must question what things in life are truly of the greatest value. Is it money and status in society, or are there things that are worth much more? I thoroughly enjoyed The Daughter of Highland Hall and I look forward to book three in the series.

My thanks to the author and to WaterBrook Multnomah for the complimentary copy I received in exchange for an honest review, which I have given.
