"Brilliant and entertaining as SLAMMED. Point of Retreat is absolute poetry." (Jamie McGuire, New York Times Bestselling author of Beautiful Disaster)
About the Author
Colleen Hoover is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Slammed, Point of Retreat, This Girl, Hopeless, Losing Hope, Maybe Someday, Finding Cinderella, and Ugly Love. She lives in Texas with her husband and their three boys. Please visit ColleenHoover.com.
Colleen Hoover's love for writing began in 1985 when she was five years old. Her first story was titled "Mystery Bob" and was a huge hit with her mother, who was really good at faking interest. Colleen continued to write short stories for friends and family until December of 2011, when she decided to write a long story she titled, "Slammed." She self-published SLAMMED to Amazon in January, 2012 and it hit the NYT's bestsellers list in May, 2012. She has since signed with Atria Books, a division of Simon & Schuster, and now has six NYT's bestsellers. Colleen prefers to be called a writer, as the term "author" still terrifies her and makes this feel like a job with expectations. She doesn't work well under pressure and hopes writing will always remain fun and exciting. Colleen's newest novel, UGLY LOVE, releases August 5th, 2014. She is currently working on a new novel, CONFESS, which she is writing as fast as she can before she wakes up from this crazy dream.
You can follow Colleen on Instagram and Twitter @colleenhoover. You can also find her on her blog at www.colleenhoover.com where she holds a daily book-a-day giveaway, or on her very active Facebook page at www.facebook.com/authorcolleenhoover where she loves to give away more free stuff when her husband isn't looking.
Colleen also wants the world to know that writing short biographies in third person is incredibly awkward.
Here's the thing with series books that have a romantic element involved: I usually love them. Okay, I usually LOVE them. I eat them up like candy. Yum! But I know, without a doubt, that something has to happen to pull the couple apart at some point in the story. If it is a standalone romance it doesn't have to happen because the entire story can be the development of the relationship. But in a series what happens to drive the plot after the relationship becomes a done deal? Usually there is some sort of issue that comes between the two people, tempers flare, feelings are hurt, someone gives someone else the silent treatment, desperation ensues. It happens. I expect it, but that doesn't mean that I LIKE it. In fact, I absolutely cannot stand it in relationship books when communication breaks down due to some misunderstanding, pulling a couple I love so much apart for a good portion of the book. So with that in mind, let me offer my two cents about Point of Retreat, the second book in the Slammed series.
I absolutely adored Slammed, the first book in this series. I loved Will and Lake and their relationship. I loved everything about it. I thought that Slammed ended almost perfectly. No. I thought that it ended perfectly. But I wanted more anyway, so I was eager to begin this book right away. I knew after reading the blurb for this book that there was going to be some sort of misunderstanding involving someone from Will's past, and I knew that it was going to be the long lost ex-girlfriend. I knew that Lake was going to have issues with this and spend a good deal of time "carving pumpkins" (check out book one to see what this means). So all of those elements of a book two romance that I so dislike seemed to be coming my way. I was nervous.Read more ›

Point of Retreat is the follow-up novel to Slammed. Point of Retreat is narrated by Will, giving us a much deeper connection to him and a chance to view Lake in an entirely new way.
*Contains spoilers for Slammed!*
Point of Retreat takes place about a year after Slammed. Lake's mother has passed away. Lake and Will are happily still together and they're both working hard to raise Kel and Caulder. The heartache, trials, and tribulations they've all been through has only brought their little family closer together.
Will's love for Lake couldn't be more intense and real, but when a blast from the past ends up in one of his classes, Will makes the decision to keep it from Lake. When she finds out the truth, everything changes. Lake begins to question everything about their relationship and their life together. This results in an epic struggle between the couple; one that could leave their new found family separated forever.
"If I were a carpenter, I would build you a window to my soul. But I would leave that window shut and locked, so that every time you tried to look through it... all you would see is your own reflection. You would see that my soul is a reflection of you..."

Well, this book was just as amazing as book one. It was for the same reasons, but different ones as well.
First of all, Will as a narrator was just fantastic. Like I said up above: This brought the story of Will & Lake; their life, their love, to a whole new level of beauty. Being able to know how Will feels about Lake, how he sees her as a person, was very moving. In Slammed I found Lake to be a little capricious. She was the same in this book, but it was easier to get it, to get her while reading about her tantrums from Will's POV.Read more ›

After reading Colleen's first book "Slammed" just a few short months ago I left in awe at how she did such an amazing job at telling such a beautiful story!!! It left me dying for more about Will and Layken! I was just killing time this afternoon on Facebook and came across this link for a sequel to Slammed. I couldn't wait to read it so I downloaded it immediately! And I COULD NOT put it down!!!!
Thank you Colleen for sharing your talents! I never imagined that I could love Point of Retreat as much as I loved Slammed but you knocked my socks off AGAIN!!! WAY TO GO!!

I had high expectations starting this book after finishing the first book, Slammed, and Colleen Hoover you blew them out of the water!! The first chapter alone had me rolling on the floor laughing. I am totally going to do suck and sweet with my kids at the end of every day. I am completely and totally in love with all of the characters. I wish I had a version of each and everyone of them in my life. I love that the kids are such a huge part of the story and I think that adds something to the series. Kids have a real and honest perspective on life and sometimes we lose that in ourselves as we get older. It is so great that Will and Lake have their brothers and Kiersten to give them that. And btw, god do I LOVE Kiersten. Thank you for her!! Her SLAM was PERFECT!! I also love that this book was told from Will's perspective! It was such a change of pace from most love stories and I absolutely butterflying loved being inside his head!! What didn't I love about this book?!? Butterfly will be my new word, as I know it now is for all fans of this series. As I said about Slammed, this book series is so REAL, HONEST, HEARTWARMING, and HILARIOUS...I could not put it down! Thank you so much to Colleen for writing these books. I not only thoroughly enjoyed reading them..I learned a lot of life lessons as well. This is a series I will be reading over and over again. I butterflying LOVED it!! After you finish this book, Colleen has given us a snippet of Slammed from Will's POV in her blog. GO READ IT!! I hope she finishes it and makes it into a book and then writes Point of Retreat from Layken's perspective too. I would pay any amount of money to read those books. I will NEVER get enough of these characters!! Oh and I would like to say that Will Cooper has now replaced Christian Grey as my fictional character crush bc I absolutely butterflying adore him!!
