From the Back Cover

Saddle up for a wildly fun ride with the Wilde sisters!

Kylie Wilde is the youngest sister--and the most civilized. Her older sisters might be happy dressing in trousers and posing as men, but Kylie has grown her hair long and wears skirts every chance she gets. It's a risk--they are homesteading using the special exemptions they earned serving in the Civil War as "boys"--but Kylie plans to make the most of the years before she can sell her property and return to the luxuries of life back East.

Local land agent Aaron Masterson is fascinated with Kylie from the moment her long hair falls from her cap. But now that he knows her secret, can he in good conscience defraud the U.S. government? And when someone tries to force Kylie off her land, does he have any hope of convincing her that marrying him and settling on the frontier is the better option for her future?

"Connealy spins a Civil War-era romance with book one of the Wild at Heart series. Her feisty female characters win our hearts." -RT Book Reviews

"Connealy's view of the Idaho Territory in 1866 is a surprising delight in this inaugural novel of her Wild at Heart romance series . . . The light tale is spiced with both humor and a glimpse into the darker side of the great land rush." - Publishers Weekly

The second part of the book really slowed down for me and just didn't seem to quite fit.

Hundreds of women disguised themselves as men and fought in the Civil War, some alongside husbands or brothers, others on their own. Connealy's new series takes a look at these women, reminding us of what they went through, and more importantly, how they picked up the pieces of their lives afterward. Soldiers were offered an exemption for homesteading - each year served in the war was one year off the 5-year period to prove up land. Since it was illegal for women to enlist, women were naturally not eligible for the exemption - even if they did fight in the war. But suppose a woman - or three - continued their charades as men and filed for a homestead? Connealy's exploration of this idea makes for a fun premise for the series.

Tried and TrueHaving fought as a young man in the Civil War along with her two older sisters, it didn't seem such a stretch for Kylie Wilde to fall in with her father's plans and take a homestead out west, posing once again as a man. The problem is, unlike her sisters, Kylie has always wanted to live as a woman back east, enjoying frilly dresses and tea parties. When Aaron Masterson, the land agent, checks up on the homesteads to make sure they are proving up, he isn't fooled by Kylie's britches or covered hair. As the land agent, he cannot allow Kylie to defraud the government, but when someone starts trying to run her off her land, Aaron's protective instincts flare up. Can he protect this soldier from the threat against her, or will she stand up and fight for herself?

While Kylie and Aaron both fought in the same war, even in some of the same battles, Kylie leaves the war behind her while Aaron comes out struggling with hate for what happened to his family. Though he runs from it, the bitterness follows.

Mary Connealy never disappoints. I absolutely adore her cowboy comedies. This one features Kylie, who fought in the Civil War and is using that service to gain the government exemption to her homesteaded property. Enter Adam Masterson, local land agent, who quite quickly discovers Kylie is no man and takes away her exemption. Off to a rocky start, these two are.

Well, turns out Kylie has two brothers, er, sisters, who also fought in the war and each have their own homestead. Add to this a local rancher wants all their land and somebody is trying to kill Kylie. Well, several people are endangering her life and this cowboy comedy kicks off in high gear.

There is a wonderful spiritual message in this book and I won't give it away, but it will warm your heart real good!

The best part is there are two more sisters who each beg their own book! I LOVE Mary Connealy books! But I hate I'll have to wait till June 2015 for the next.

Sharing my thoughts~
Civil War veteran Kylie is tired of keeping up the charade of dressing as a man, part of her pa's crazy scheme to honor her late brother's memory. The youngest of three sisters, Kylie's determined to fulfill the three remaining years left to homestead, then she plans to sell her place to her pa and move closer to civilization. But when land agent Aaron Masterson rescues her from a near fatal accident and discovers the woman underneath the britches, he refuses to keep her secret.

Aaron Masterson left for the war thinking his family was safe at home. When he returned and found them all dead and hatred destroying what was left of his neighborhood, he heads west to start a new life in Aspen Ridge, leaving his idyllic childhood home behind, along with a best friend who'd served on the opposite side of the war and who blamed him for his family's deaths.

Romance between Aaron and Kylie blossoms quickly, and I enjoyed the flirty banter.

"Aaron, we can't be kissing like that." Her eyes flickered to his lips."There are a lot of ways to kiss. If you don't think we should be kissing like that, we could keep trying until we find a way you like."

Fast reading suspense is balanced with trademark humorous scenes, and Tried & True also tackles some tough topics like: What lengths will we go to please our parents? Loving and praying for our enemies...

"There might be places in the Bible that men can debate," Kylie said. "Places hard to understand, and folks differ on the meaning. But not when it comes to hate. It isn't allowed. 'Love your enemies. Pray for those who persecute you.''

Tried & True might be one of my favorite Connealy books!

My Review:

Kylie Wilde, the youngest of the Wilde sisters, hates living in the land of homesteaders. As if life itself isn't hard enough, people are trying to chase her off of her land. Aaron Masterson, a loyal land agent, rode out to Kylie's homestead only to find out that things and people there are not what they appear to be. Flapping shingles, flying arrows, and snakes send Kylie into hysterics, many, many times but Aaron is always by her side to rescue her. Soon Kylie starts to see Aaron in a different way, which isn't right considering the current circumstances. Aaron is completely head over heels for Kylie but he isn't sure she feels the same way.

This Mary Connealy's latest novel and is book one in the Wild At Heart series. As always she has delivered a winner! She does not disappoint, and is able to deliver beyond our wildest expectations! Definitely a page turner and full of Wild West action and overwhelming passion!
