From the Back Cover

Alice Chesterfield is a woman pursued. Having survived an attack that left her scarred and her father dead, she is never free from the fear and memories of the man who is responsible.

Texas seems to be an answer to Alice's prayers, and when she has the opportunity to relocate to a ranch near Dallas, Robert Barnett captures her attention. Unlike any man Alice has ever known, Robert doesn't worry about the obstacles that stand in their way--and he hardly seems to notice the scar she bears.

But there are storm clouds gathering; devastating information about her family comes to light, threatening Alice's peaceful sanctuary. Disillusioned, Alice must learn to place her trust in God as she seeks a measure of peace for her future...and for her heart.

"Peterson tells a beautiful story of family, faith, love and forgiveness." -RT Book Reviews

I'd a hard time indeed-ee, cipherin' who's the tougher hombre; cowboy or cowgirl?
Texas rancher Marty, & Jake, the Denver banker, found true love (book 1) but now the bank failure forces them to living in different states. Alice (also from book 1) knows she must get her friend back under one roof. She has her own problems, including a stalker. No matter what these folk face, they always pray. I liked that. If that's so-called "preachy fiction", I'm for it.
Tracie Peterson IS Christian Fiction personified.

As Texas ranchin' seems the makin' of Marty & Jake, friend Alice's family and social life rolls like tumbleweeds. Will Marty's nephew ever decide which girl `friend' will become `girlfriend?' This multi-plot novel blends perfectly, like ham & beans & cornbread. It works as a stand-alone read, but is definitely a sequel. A gift copy of "A Moment in Time" arrived with neither promise nor demand of a review. However, my pleasant re-acquaintance with several characters from "A Sensible Arrangement" encouraged me to toss in my 5-stars worth. Now, I can't wait for book 3.

Although a fan long ago of Tracie Peterson's Historical Fiction; my wife and I were pleasantly brought back to her books with the brilliant series "Land of Shining Waters."

I must admit, I have mixed feelings about A Moment in Time. It's the second book in Peterson's Texas Brides series, and I really enjoyed the book one, A Sensible Arrangement, so I highly anticipated continuing Jake, Marty, and Alice's story. At first, I was incredibly frustrated as I read—Marty made so much progress in the first book, and when this one started, it was like she had completely regressed. I understand that she didn't want to go back to Texas, but the Marty at the end of A Sensible Arrangement would not have had the spoiled brat/childish reaction to Jake's announcement that he was going to look for work in Texas that this Marty had.

Once the characters actually got to Texas (more than one third of the way through the book), I started enjoying it more. Marty's character became more like the Marty at the end of A Sensible Arrangement (finally!), and Alice and Robert met, which introduced the novel's love story. They had a sweet romance, and of course I was pulling for her to get her happily ever after. Some of the conflict in their relationship, though, could have been solved by simply talking to one another—that's my least favorite type of conflict in romance, as I just want to shake the couple and yell, "Just talk about it!"

Everything wraps up in a satisfying manner, though a couple threads are left open for future novels. I think the reason I struggled so much with this book is that I was anticipating it greatly, as I'd really enjoyed book one in the series, so perhaps my expectations were too high. This is a good book, and, despite my criticisms, I enjoyed it—just not as much as I'd hoped to. I will still come back for the next in the series, as I do like the characters, and I still want to know how those unresolved threads will turn out!

Please know that this review will NOT contain any spoilers!

I saw this book, and really thought it would be one I would fall in love with. But unfortunately that just didn't happen for me. I tried many times to get into this book, and really engross myself in it. The story once I got reading it, just didn't do much to keep me hooked. There were many times while reading this book that I almost had to force myself to finish a chapter.

I found that parts of the book would draw out really slow, then in other parts it would just fly by which I wasn't a fan of. There are characters in the book (Marty) who are not the main character, but yet for a good bit, the book seemed to be more about Marty rather than Alice. Also the relationship between Alice and Robert was just too un-realistic for me. It felt like on one page they are just getting acquainted and the next they are suddenly in love.... just too rushed for me.

Overall I would check out other books from this author, and give her another shot. But as for this book, it just wasn't for me.

Disclosure: I received this book free from Bethany House Publishers to read, and give my final thoughts on.

When I finished reading Tracie Peterson's novel, A Sensible Arrangement, I had hoped there would be a sequel so that I could learn what happened to two of the protagonists. A Moment In Time is that book and is also a stand alone book. Alice and Marty met when they were living in Denver. Marty had traveled there from Texas as a mail order bride in 1892. She hired Alice as her maid, but over time they became close friends. Alice was the victim of a troubled past and did not have much hope for her future. Financial ruin forces Marty and her husband to return to Texas, much against Marty's wishes. Alice moves there with them and hopes to find peace and safety.

Marty's nephew, Robert, becomes enthralled with Alice and she with him. There are obstacles and complications. Through a series of events, Alice learns her father was not the man she thought he was. Even though she was provided proof of his lies, she still struggled with how to reconcile herself with the truth. To further complicate things, Alice learned everyone thinks Robert is to marry another woman. What was she do with all this information and how would it impact her future? Marty had her own fears and struggles to face. She had previously known tragedy and loss in Texas and she doesn't know if she can move on.

The author has crafted a highly readable novel that moves quickly. There is a large cast of characters and Ms. Peterson has captured their essence. They are people who have faith, a strong sense of right and wrong and community. It is easy for the reader to hope for a good life for them. I recommend reading this book and I hope there is a sequel.

I received this book free of charge from Bethany House and I give this review of my own free will.
