“Where do you find your strength, Morning Glory?”
“From you.”

I believe a small wonder is coming. A love story so epic and unique that will wreck us all and leave us in a blissful haze of ‘book hangovers’ for months to come. I believe I would have never read this book had it not been written by this particular author. Would have not even glimpsed at it twice. I believe Mia Sheridan has just written one of the most stunning, unpretentious romances of our age, and this book is going to change us all. I walked into this story completely blind, refusing even to read the blurb, confident in this author’s superb storytelling talents and in the unquestionable beauty of every single one of her previous works, but after only a few pages, I knew I had hit a hard limit with the setting of this book. My brain was screaming at me, telling me I couldn’t possibly enjoy anything of this sort, but my heart never even entertained the possibility of stopping because I knew that Ms Sheridan would blow my mind, as she always does, and that this was going to be one of those life-altering reading experiences that stays with you, changes you, makes you look at the world in a different way. I trusted my heart. And my heart was right.

“A storm is coming.”

This story is set in modern day America, but far away from the comforts of the society we know and live in. Acadia is a close-knit community of small families renouncing modern technology and living a sheltered life, an uncomplicated life, a focused life, in the middle of the Arizona desert. Except that every aspect of their way of life finds its source in the teachings of one man, a self-proclaimed Prophet, promising to lead his people to eternal life after a great flood erases life on Earth as we know it.

Captivating. Powerful. Unique. Thought-provoking. Unforgettable. My heart was racing from the first word to the last. Mia Sheridan's flawless writing is something every reader should experience. Calder and Eden's love story captured my heart and this is absolutely one of the best books I have ever read!!

There's a special feeling you get right before you start a book by an author you love. The anticipation makes your heart beat a little faster, you get butterflies in your belly, you smile to yourself, and excitedly dive into the first chapter. That's how I felt before starting this book and from the first few pages, I was utterly captivated and felt every word of the story. It grabbed a hold of my heart and didn't let go even for a moment. I think it's truly the sign of a gifted author when she can make you feel completely connected to the characters from the very beginning, even before you've gotten to really know them or their story.

We begin the book with a girl lost in the city, with nothing to her name but a few precious keepsakes from a life she was forced to leave behind. As we read more of her story, little snippets of her memories are inserted in. Heart wrenching glimpses of a powerful love that was torn away from her. But why was she here? Where was the boy she loved now? What had happened to them? .... This book is their story.

In a secluded community isolated by choice from the rest of the world, Calder's people live a life without modern conveniences based on pure faith in their gods and true devotion to their leader. Selfish desires are seen as sinful and free choice is not even a consideration.

I can see it now, this book has the makings of a mini-series. Becoming Calder, by Mia Sheridan is like a fine wine, I had to let it a few day and get a breath before I could write this review. It was deep, dark and completely mind blowing. I'm really not sure where to even start to give this book a review it deserves. Mia Sheridan is a very talented writer, she has taken this series "Sign of Love" and every book is so unique from the last. This one takes the cake for originality! This had your suspense, forbidden love, best friend, religion/cult compound, erotica, kid-napping, all in one book. This all takes place modern day, but the works of the compound have none of the modern conveniences we all take for granted.

This book follows Calder and Eden over a span over years. The first time Calder sees Eden, she is introduced by Hector (cult leader) as "the Blessed One". She was about 10 years old, Hector told his congregation that she would be his bride and stand by his side, just as soon as she turned 18 of course. You know he had to keep it all respectable and everything.... nothing creepy there or anything (gag). Calder has a beautiful heart even as a kid, always doing the right thing. He is a hard worker, and loves his family beyond measure. Eden is an innocent child, scared beyond belief, not allowed to associate with the other children with her being the "Blessed One" and all that and the bag of chips. They catch each others eye several times though the years but their friendship really blossomed when she turned 17. When I say blossomed, I mean fireworks!!! They start meeting at a secret spring and things heat up 1000 degrees or so. They decide they love each other, but they know Hector would kill Calder and punish her, so they will never be together.
