Dete Meserve is an award-winning author living in Los Angeles, California. When she's not writing, Meserve is president of Wind Dancer Films, a film and television production company based in Los Angeles. The company has created such television hits as "Roseanne" and "Home Improvement." In addition, Wind Dancer has produced successful films such as "What Women Want", "Bernie", the award-winning comedy starring Jack Black and Academy Award winner Matthew McConaughey, among many other films. Meserve lives in Los Angeles with her husband and three children—and a cat that rules them all.

When I started writing GOOD SAM, I saw how television news and newspaper reports can deeply influence many of our thoughts and feelings about the world we live in. We are constantly bombarded with stories about senseless murders, natural disasters, tragic accidents, massive fraud, and the dark side of the American Dream. I wondered, what would happen if someone were doing extraordinary good? And how would we as viewers, conditioned by the steady supply of violence and tragedy, respond to someone doing good?
I also wanted to write a mystery where the protagonist wasn't investigating someone's strange death or disappearance. These stories are everywhere, including television and film. I enjoy those stories, but I wanted to write a mystery where the main character was searching for good, instead of evil.

The company has created such television hits as Roseanne and Home Improvement along with George Lopez' latest series, Saint George. In addition, the company has developed and produced successful films such as What Women Want, the award-winning comedy Bernie starring Jack Black and Academy Award winner Matthew McConaughey, among many other films. Meserve is in active development on Jet Propulsion, an animated television series with creator Craig Bartlett (Hey Arnold!), designed to inspire an interest in astronomy and earth science in kids 3-7 years old, and developing Antoinette Portis' award-winning book, Not A Box, into an animated television series.
Good Sam is Meserve's first novel. She lives in Los Angeles with her husband, three children and a cat that rules us all.

Good character development, believable dialogue and a plotline that most people can dream about - finding $100,000 on your doorstep. I liked the news reporting portions of the story very much - very interesting.
This was a quick read but still substantial. It would have been nice to have some of the focus be on the recipients of the money and the ending felt a bit rushed but this was still a read-through-the-night story and I enjoyed it.

Well-paced, fascinating look behind a TV reporter's chase for the lead story, even as it puts her personal live into turmoil. Terrific romance and mystery. "Good Sam" seems like a dream come true on the surface, with unsuspecting people receiving $10,000 cash from the heavens. Kate, who is a scrappy, hard-news reporter, becomes victim of inner office politics and is relegated to this soft, feel-good story. But in her usual style, she makes a meal out of it and comes to suspect the true motivation behind these deus ex machina gifts. Is she being played to forward an agenda? Or are these pay-it-forward gifts only full of good intentions? Kate is well drawn as a contemporary working woman, often torn between her heart and head. If you're looking for a good, fast spring or beach read, this is a great choice.

Intrigued by the blurb, I started reading the book. I figured it would last me the week of quiet reading before bed. Big mistake, The characters, mystery, modern romance and surprise twists keep me caught up in the story until the very end. I can't wait for the author to write another novel!

I was working long hours and did not have time for pleasure reading, but this book held me captive, such that I was up until 2 am reading and only stopped because I could not keep my eyes open. A delightful mystery with a love story included. I hope this author has more stories coming along, because I can't wait to read them.

Dete Meserve has written a captivating novel that expresses positivity really can be found in society. Yet Good Sam is not a typical ‘feel good’ story; you’ll be on the edge of your seat until the very last pages. Kate Bradley is tenacious, funny, full of moxie and has great reporter instincts. Yet despite the outward appearance that she has it all together, Kate is on a journey of self discovery and we lucky readers are along for the ride. A must read for cynics and optimists alike.

Dete Meserve has certainly captured the essence of a good page-turning story, and she clearly caught the essence of what it means to sacrifice for others, whether in the fire and rescue services or as a news reporter or just in the daily life of someone who tries to do good in the world (juxtaposed with the counter-personality of the kind of sociopathic character who takes extreme measures to APPEAR to be doing good when in fact he's doing harm or is certainly capable of doing harm. For anyone who has experienced of been exposed to either personality, this is a fascinating case study and a ripping good story.
