Justice Drake is a big Ahole. Also his name (sadly) isn't Taint. He's some kind of sexpert whose job it is to reinforce gender apartheid and grope his students. These students are married women who have been unknowingly sent on this sex course by their husbands because those same husbands will inevitably get bored of them. Because women, amirite? So in order to keep their meal tickets in their grasping, diamond-dripping hands, these women must become sex virtuosos. And as far as I can see, being a sex virtuoso involves nothing more than realising you have breasts, getting a proper bra and tonguing strippers. But Taint (I'm calling him Taint) can only teach his students how to be sexy by having strippers grind up on him during class (while they indulge in the most lipstick of lesbianism). Taint can't show the class the wonders of the female anatomy by showing them a 3D model or a short film, he must have a medical student (for extra credibility) strip and bring themselves off for them. And if the women want to feel good about themselves, they must strip to their underwear and parade themselves before him. Only he has the last word on whether their fault-ridden bodies are acceptable for their husbands.

So you're probably getting some hostility from me right now. To paraphrase the great philosopher Willam Belli, "My tone is very pointed right now." Look, I read romance. I love romance. I love ridiculously outdated alpha behaviour and silly virgins and baby billionaires and, yes, a lot of gender stereotypes. But this book offended me. It's an interesting concept, and it would work well as a way to demolish notions about society's expectations of women and their sexual obligations. But Jennings is happy to treat it seriously.

Review for Taint by S.L. Jennings

Ever get so super excited for something you’re bouncing up and down and can’t freaking wait another second? So very excited that disappointment completely engulfs you when you realize unlike the “cool” kids you aren’t getting an advanced copy of something… you have to buy your own just like the rest of the lowly non-blogger types? (PS I love you readers I am just trying to make a point here.) Well, this is me with Taint. I wanted to be on the tour SO flipping bad. I wanted to get to brag with the “cool” kids that I read it before it could be bought… I wasn’t cool enough. Which is fine, I bought my copy because again I was SO flipping excited to read Taint. The hype around this book was crazy good. Every blog from the biggest coolest of the kids to the little lowly just started outs had this book plastered on their feeds. (Whoever did the PR on this book needs a big huge round of applause. Bravo, really.) You are all, okay, okay get to the point wh**e-face. Here is the point. D I S A P P O I N T M E N T.

And now I’m glad I didn’t get the advanced copy of the book because let’s be honest here, the pressure to conform to a good rating based on the fact that is was a free book is huge. I don’t conform, in fact most times I tell the tour people I can’t review it because FML I don’t want to be the blogger that authors hate because I started bashing peoples hard work. I recognize that the author busted her buns and poured a ton of effort and time into this book and I appreciate that effort, but in the end I’m still left sitting here wondering what I just read and WHERE the book that was so widely hyped up is… did I buy the wrong book? Nope, it says it’s Taint.

When reading the book blurb, you think it’s going to be nothing but hot sex every 20 pages, but you actually get a great male POV storyline, with character depth, touching moments, humorous moments, and the “house-crashing-down-around-us” moments. Yes, there is hot sex, but not overly done or in massive quantities, which I think fits the storyline. You see and hear the internal struggles of Justice, his wants and needs, and the dawning realization of being in love. This book surprised me on the story and twists, plus how much I enjoyed it. Granted, I’ve loved everything SL Jennings has written. It helped me get over a book slump and I would definitely recommend it.

I received a gift copy from the author.

5 “angel” “lobster” Kisses!

Wow. Wow. Wow!!!! So I loved with an all consuming passion S.L. Jennings's first contemporary romance, Fear of Falling , it was one of my favorite reads of 2013 and officially made me a devotee of hers. Taint just made me her b!%@# for life and is one of my favorites reads of 2014…are we noticing a trend here? I’m hooked…sold…sign, sealed, delivered…she could write about snow melting on toilet paper and I. Will. Read. It. Probably with a dumb @#$ goofy grin on my face too…kinda like the one I’m wearing right now. But I’m getting ahead of myself. As usual. (I usually do when I love books as much as I loved this one!)

Justice Drake…umm…hello – I want to hump his name! Then I find out he’s a 6’2” bronzed god with dark hair, denim blue eyes and muscles for days and I was drooling. A lot. Then…he opens his mouth…and I’m done for. Physically…yes, Justice is the definition of perfection in my eyes and I may or may not have the strong desire to lick him from head to toe…but Lord have mercy his personality is spot on for making me putty in his hands. That’s honestly what I fell in love with first (I swear…I’m really not lying about this!)…his wit, his sarcasm, his humor – I got it, I loved it, I couldn’t get enough of it. He was that perfect combination of charming but cocky, smooth and sexy, alluring but sincere. I can’t even tell you how many times I burst out laughing at some dry thought he had…for example, one of my fav’s… ‘I clear my throat, praying that when I finally grow the balls to open my mouth, actual words and sounds will come out.’ I mean…I had high expectations of Justice in my head and he completely exceeded every single one of them. I am a self-proclaimed man w#@%# lover and Justice has to be one of the best I’ve ever read.
