I am a freelance writer living in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. I started writing fiction in 2002, then took a long hiatus to explore other writing opportunities. I returned to fiction in January 2013 with Reaper's Property, the first book in the Reapers Motorcycle Club series.
I can't explain exactly why this one touched me - it just did repeatedly, but I can say the plot definitely interested me. I just really liked it I guess!
Horse was alpha male, basically making Marie agree to "be" with him to save her brother's life since he had stolen $50K from his "club" (Motorcycle Club or MC). That said, Marie liked him before that happened and Horse liked Marie so much he used the situation with her brother to get what he wanted as well as a stay of execution for her brother. So, in the end (or beginning), Horse more or less buys Marie and she agrees to do whatever he wants wherever/whenever he wants as collateral for her brother's debt.
There was no force or even the hint of it between Marie and Horse and mainly no real contention (a couple of insecure moments or misunderstandings, but not contrived). There was, however, heat and domination (albeit not formal and in the BDSM fashion)....this was biker club world with the biker club hierarchy rather than that backdrop.
I liked how the book made me feel and think...if a book makes me emote - and this one did (excellent writing and I am serious!), I think it is a really good or great one - and this one did it for me. I especially liked that they were honest with each other - no forced angst over a tense situation - just telling each other when something bothered them - didn't fix the situation necessarily, but they both knew how the other felt most of the time.
A romance, with alpha male/domination themes and a biker club backdrop. I would recommend this one to anyone liking even one of those aspects!

Horse and Marie's story comes to pass when Marie's brother, Jeff who had been hired by the Reaper's MC club ends up stealing from the club. They offer Marie her brother's life and his chance to make good on the theft in exchange for her going to live with Horse. The book follows Marie and Horse in the events leading up to that point and then the story continues from there.
Story is mostly told from Marie's POV, but every once in awhile we get Horse's POV (in 3rd person).
Hero: Marcus Antonius Caesar McDonnell, "Horse"/30 years old/ex-marine - biker - Reaper's MC member - accountant/black hair/green eyes/6'6" Heroine: "Marie Caroline Jensen/25 years old/childcare worker/separated/dark brown hair/5'4"
At first glance Horse has so many of the superficial qualities I like in a hero... sinfully good looks: "Tall, built, with shoulder-length hair he kept pulled back in a ponytail, and thick black stubble on his face. Stark, tribal cuffs ringed his wrists and upper arms. And what a face... Horse was handsome, like movie star handsome."
And he is very well endowed: "So why are you called Horse?" "'Cause I'm hung like one," he replied, smirking."
But we soon learn that there are many more layers to Horse. He is this hard, strong and fierce biker, but he is also this soft, sweet and kind man. He is smart, working as an accountant handling the clubs complex finances. And he is funny: "Glad you like it." "What?" I asked, confused. "My body," he replied, smirking. "It's the only one you get to look at or f**k, so it's good the package works for you." I blushed fiercely..."
Marie was both naive and annoying which is often the case when paired with a larger-than-life hero.Read more ›

I am a biker's ol' lady. Not just an ol' lady but the presidents wife. The wording in thud book was spot on. I cannot wait for her next one in February. The book was one of those where you can't put it down! Honestly it took maybe a week at the most to finish. I would recommend this to anyone in a heartbeat.

I just finished this and though Joanna was writing about my life. I am a bikers old lady property patch and all. This book is extremely close if not right on. If you are not familiar with the lifestyle of clubbers then you might find all this offensive. But believe me it is NOT. Citizens protect their own and why is it so hard for them to believe that Clubbers do the same. Excellent book Joanna would love to see you write more to make this a series.

Horse is definitely an alpha male. In fact, he's an over-the-top alpha male. And Marie is not a pushover either, so you know there are going to be some big-time clashes here. There were many times when I wanted to slap them both upside the head, mostly Horse, but as a former foreign language teacher, I understand about cultural differences, and the biker lifestyle definitely is a foreign culture to me. And I liked both of them. So maybe that's why I kept reading.
And am glad I did. This is a fantastic story, flaming hot erotic romance, in case you're wondering. Lots of biker language, so if that offends you, look elsewhere. Pretty violent too.
Not at all the sort of thing you'd expect a retired teacher to read. But this one did...and maybe you should too!

When I saw the cover of this book I had to buy it. Being a fan of Son's of Anarchy it looked like something I might enjoy....and boy was I right! The book and it's characters fell in my lap and not only did I enjoy the book I fell in love with everything about it!! I understood everything because as I said I am a huge fan of Son's, and the language was right up my alley. From the very beginning I was in lust with Horse.. I mean who wouldn't be right? He sounds like every girls wet dream. Us ladies love those bad boys...and don't try to deny it lol. Now the following is going to be my interpretation of the characters that play a major part in the book.
Marie: She is loyal to her brother who she would do anything for, but she is in love with Horse but refuses to be treated like property...she just doesn't understand a lot in the beginning but I liked that she finally starts to get it towards the end.
Horse: Yummy! What to say....not only is the man gorgeous but he has feelings for Marie and is determined to make her his. When a situation arises that works in his benefit he does everything in his power to make it work for him.
Jeff: This is Marie's brother and as smart as he is, he is also a complete idiot. He does something so terrible he is lucky to be alive then it seems he goes out of his way to make matters worse than they are. He does love his sister though and that gives him points but I take them away when I see how he doesn't realize how he hurts her by trying to help her.
There are so many other characters in this book and I can't wait to read about each and every one of them hopefully! I will be reading more by this author without a doubt and am impatient to begin that journey. This has to be one of my all time favorite books and after you read it you will understand why!
