NO IN BETWEEN is the fourth novel in the Inside Out series, which will total eleven titles when the final novel in the series publishes in February 2015. For the correct reading order of the series, please see the end of this review.
NO IN BETWEEN continues the story of Sara McMillan and Chris Merit, who met in IF I WERE YOU, in which Sara had inadvertently come into possession of the private journals of Rebecca Mason, a sexual submissive who worked at the Allure Art Gallery in San Francisco. Sara grew continually more obsessed with Rebecca, to the point of entering Rebecca’s former life, after she disappeared, to replace her at Allure. Sara’s immersion into Rebecca’s life (through her work and her reading of the journals), her relationship with Rebecca’s former boss (and suspected sexual Master) Mark Compton, for whom Sara now works, and Sara’s volatile romantic relationship with Chris, a celebrity artist also involved in Allure business dealings, form the backbone of the relationships against which the plot points of this series revolve.
In NO IN BETWEEN, there are many complicated relationships and complex storylines involving not only Sara, Mark, and Chris, but also a sizeable number of secondary characters who move to the forefront of the story as pieces of the mystery surrounding Rebecca’s disappearance are slowly revealed. NO IN BETWEEN is a well-crafted mystery which does not expose itself simply. This is the fourth book in the Inside Out Series and should not be read out of series order. This book begins after the events in His Secrets which are synopsized in the prologue.
Chris and Sara have survived the events in Paris, now an even stronger couple as they head back to the states to deal with the repercussions of Ava’s actions. But there is more to come for this couple to deal with. The past still haunts Chris but his love of Sara and her support enable him to admit and face those demons, the ticking time bomb that is inside him is no longer hidden. Sara is a woman ready to fight to save the man she loves, as he has saved her and we all know that turnabout is fair play.
The investigation into Rebecca’s disappearance and Ava’s confession continues; the police along with Walker Security are still seeking answers when Chris and Sara return. Their escape to Paris having been seen as escaping the jurisdiction but which for them was a respite to gain strength to combat the attacks on their reputations and innocence. Along with Mark, Chris and Sara have to deal with the hounding of the press as well as the police, protecting themselves with legal means and other methods that their money gives them access to. The gallery is in turmoil and Mark is tormented by the loss of Rebecca and by his mother’s fight with cancer, not being able to be with her as much as she needs him to be. And so the stage is set for the action and suspense to continue. Some threads are tied up and new ones are started. I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest opinion. But to be honest, I bought it anyway!
I can't get enough of this series! I have been rooting for Chris and Sara from the very first book and I continue to root for them as their story unfolds.
In this installment, they are dealing with the aftermath of Rebecca's mysterious disappearance. Ava has retracted her confession and is blaming Sara for Rebecca's death. The Gallery is falling apart as is their friend Mark. Chris and Sara have to rely on each other even more, given the intense scrutiny they are under by the media and law enforcement. And they feel compelled to help Mark in whatever way they can, as they see him self-destruct.
Their relationship is complex but so passionate. The sex scenes are wonderfully done, graphic enough but not too over the top. I have been really enjoying seeing them grow together.
This series is wonderfully written, very compelling and gives you great characters that you can really root for. Lisa Renee Jones isn't predictable so the story flow has interesting twists and turns to keep the reader engaged. You should pick up with series for a great read!

This may be my favorite in the Inside Out Series! Loved the intensity of this book. Loved having more of Chris & Sara. The uncertainties of what might happen with the characters and the legal issues facing them kept me wanting to read until the end. Mark tried to make me not like him again with his conversations with Sara, however, after knowing that he is falling apart an losing his control that is so important to him let me not give up on him. Seeing Chris doing every thing in his power to make sure Sara knows that he loves her completely and will not leave her was wonderful. Very exciting book and leaves me wanting more...especially after reading the epilogue!!! LOVE this series!
