More About the Author

Jaci Burton is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling, award-winning author of over 60 books. She lives in Oklahoma and when she isn't on deadline, she can usually be found trying to convince her husband to remodel some room or another in their house (she blames HGTV for this). Let me start by saying that I am a huge Jaci Burton fan, but this book fell flat for me.

Haven had a crush on Trevor when they were in college while she tutored him. Her Dad and Mom were dorm parents to pretty much all of Jaci's main men it seems and they all loved, respected and had great relationships with them even after they graduated. When her Dad died the year before Haven took it very hard and was having trouble moving on. She was working as a sports reporter but kind of wavering if that is what she really wanted. Havens Mom called Trevor and asked if he could help her in some way. Trevor plays both Football and baseball professionally so he works it with Havens network to do an exclusive on him. He is hoping this will get her back on track of following her dreams by keeping her busy and focused. She comes to stay with him while she puts the piece together.

Ok, so this was my problem....when they first meet up again there is zero spark. The crush was one sided in college, although from her reaction to this supposedly hot athlete you would never know! He has known her all these years, was at her fathers funeral the year before.....but nothing was ever mentioned that there was an attraction on his side before. It was like they were asleep when they met again, kind of woke up and stayed tired through the rest of the book. I don't know I just did not click with these two. Haven seemed laid back to the point she was almost lathargic...Trevor who was supposed or be confident and self assured came off confused and a little full of himself. When they did finally get together, it just seemed kind of calculated and convenient no passion at all.

If you did not know Trevor before you sure did now....there was so much of her interviewing him and others in the story.

While I enjoyed the other books in the series, and was looking forward to this story, this story was boring. There was very little connection or chemistry between the main characters and them getting together (and having sex) seemed like an afterthought. Wish there had been much more passion and a better story.

I have liked all the other books in this series and was happy to have the new one but this was a pretty big dud for me. I never felt a connection with Haven, She seemed childish to me and far to wishy washy. Trevor was ok but his big bad secret......a little anticlimactic for my taste. When I find myself skimming on a $7.99 book there's a problem. The price was to high for this round.

While every story in the Play-by-Play series has a smokin' HOT hero; Trevor Shay will capture your heart and never let go.
A multi talented sportsman, Trevor keeps a secret close to his chest and refuses to allow himself to form a long term relationship, because that may mean revealing what he fears the most.
Haven has known Trevor since college, but was never THAT girl in his life, even though he filled most of her wildest dreams.
While Haven is still reeling from the death of her dad, Trevor decides to be her professional distraction and hopefully help Haven out of her funk.
But neither is expecting the fireworks that ignite when they come together for the very first time, or the ongoing inferno that rages between them.
Jaci Burton has wowed her fans yet again and this is definitely one of my favourite stories of this series. I’m also very happy to know there are at least four more books to come!!

It was a good read and the characters were interesting. My only issue was that the secret of the main character in this book seemed to have the same secret that is encountered in about 50% of Sports Romances and it started to make me feel as if I was re-reading a book hadn't read in a while and not a totally new novel. This may not be totally the author's fault as I am not able to recall if the secret has been used before by the author...but it did ruin it for me, to a degree.

*I received an advanced copy of this book for free from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This in no way affects my opinion of the book or the content of my review.*

I am such a huge fan of Jaci Burton’s work. You would think that after 8 books in the Play by Play series I’d be tired of reading about athletes. Hot athletes. But nope, not even a little tired, I’m happy to say.

Burton just manages to bring her A-game book after book, coming at you harder and better than the last. And that is the case with Straddling The Line. I don’t think I’ve been so moved while reading a sports romance story before until now. I think that while it resonated with me on a very personal level, as the heroine in the story Haven deals with losing her dad and finding happiness again, I do too think that it will also tug on the heart strings of anyone who reads this book.

Haven Briscoe is feeling like she’s unable to fully give of herself after losing her dad a couple months ago. She’s got the job of her dreams; she gotten a break with a major network as a journalist, but she’s feeling sad and lonely and unmotivated. And most of all unhappy.

Normally when she’s in need of advice or someone to to talk to, she’d be able to pick up the phone and call her dad, but he’s not their anymore and she’s got this ache in the middle of her chest that just won’t go away. She hasn’t done well with her last couple of assignments and is pretty sure that she’s going to soon get that dreaded call from her boss saying she’s been fired.

That is until that call does come but not with the news she’s hardened herself to hear.
