More About the Author

The story goes like this - While on pregnancy bed rest, Lauren Dane had plenty of down time so her husband took her comments about "giving that writing thing a serious go" to heart and brought home a secondhand laptop. She wrote her first book on it before it gave up the ghost. Even better, she sold that book and never looked back.

Another hit by Lauren Dane. I have loved her books from the Brown Siblings to the ladies from the Delicious series where we first meet the hot Hurley brothers. This book had a great story line, great chemistry between Paddy and Natalie and a great background to the other characters in the story. Natalie and Paddy first met when the brothers were just starting out in the music world. Neither one was ready for a relationship then. Fast forward 12 years and Natalie lives in Hood River where Paddy and his family have a farm. They run into each other at a cafe and Paddy remembers Natalie and tries to persuade her to go out with him. Because she doesn't want anything to do with the fame she says no and he keeps persuading her until she says yes and the rest you will need to pick this book up and read it to find out what happens in the relationship :-)

*****

A slightly different approach to your run of the mill romance story … And I liked it!

Lauren Dane doesn't necessarily focus on the development of the romantic connection in this novel. Instead, the bulk of the story circles around the so-called 'happily ever after'; the part of the story that often falls between the final chapter and the epilogue of a book. The period of adjustment needed in every relationship to see if the feelings, the good intentions and the chemistry are going to be enough to make it translate into a workable reality.

Both main characters come with baggage. Something that never came up in their brief fling twelve years prior or either of them had a desire to reveal at the time. But this time around, both are older, a bit more colored through experience and although the chemistry still burns hot and wild, their lives have long since found a more balanced groove.
Because of his profession and the lifestyle associated with it, Natalie is at first reluctant to reacquaint herself with Paddy. But when he spends a lot of time and energy showing her that just like her, he is not necessarily the same wildly irresponsible individual she once knew, she finally concedes.
Their relationship slowly moves from a somewhat casual affair into a more substantial connection. With Paddy the driving force and Natalie with her foot always slightly on the brakes. A big issue they find themselves circling around turns out to be one and the same; The one thing Paddy is constantly looking for is the same thing Natalie has trouble giving.

There is no real high arc in this novel, although toward the last quarter of the book there is a certain build up.

Natalie is a small town librarian. One morning in the coffee shop she sees international rock star, Patrick (Paddy) Hurley. Natalie and Patrick had a two week fling long ago before Patrick’s band hit it big, and Natalie remembers it fondly. However, she’s made a lot of changes in her life since then, and she’s not interested in the chaos she’s sure Paddy will bring with him. Paddy is very interested in her, though, and he really wants another chance to explore the explosive chemistry they had years ago and to see what Natalie is like now.

Lauren Dane writes in a style I love. I call it low conflict romance. It’s stories that are focused on the relationship between characters more than the actions occurring around them. I have friends who find this kind of story a little slow or boring, but it really, really works for me. The Best Kind of Trouble is a perfect example of this. The book takes place over about a year, hitting all the major turning points and milestones in their relationship.

Natalie and Paddy were interesting characters – definitely not generic romance characters. Natalie had a history that left her with a lot of triggers. She works hard to deal with them, but knows she can’t get rid of them all together, she has to learn to live with them. Figuring out how much of this information she is willing to share with Paddy is a huge challenge for her. She feels like her triggers are her burden to bear and doesn’t want special treatment from him, but leaving him in the dark about her issues makes her seem irrational. It also means they are both blindsided now and then when things pop up.

Paddy has fewer issues than Natalie, but he’s far from perfect. He’s got a rock star history and a large loving family that Natalie with have to get used to.

I have been reading Lauren Dane for a long time and expected something good with this book. Wow. This series kicked her work up to a whole new level. I loved this story. Not so much the rock star stuff but the depth and intensity of Paddy and Natalie`s relationship. Their ability to overcome serious issues and work through problems like her psycho father really added interest to the plot. I adore couples with a history and cannot wait for Vaughan and Kelly`s story. Great book. Great series.

I love all of Lauren Dane’s books and it seems to me that each one gets better. I absolutely loved The Best Kind of Trouble. Paddy and Natalie are a perfect couple. I loved that they were involved before Paddy and his brother’s band Sweet Hollow Ranch made it big in the music scene. The book is full of emotion and smoking hot. This book made me cry but in a good way. I can’t wait to read the other books in this series. You will not be disappointed if you read this book.
