Book Description

The first time it happened, it seemed like an impossible miracle. Bills were piling up, adding up to more money than I could ever make. Mom's hospital bills. My baby brother's tuition. My tuition. Rent. Electricity. All of it on my shoulders. And I had just lost my job. There was no hope, no money in my account, no work to be found. And then, just when I thought all hope was lost, I found an envelope in the mail. No return address. My name on the front, my address. Inside was a check, made out to me, in the amount of ten thousand dollars. Enough to pay the bills and leave me some left over to live on until I found a job. Enough to let me focus on classes. There was no name on the check, just "VRI Inc.," and a post office box address for somewhere in the city. No hint of identity or reason for the check or anything. No mention of repayment, interest, nothing...except a single word, on the notes line: "You." Just those three letters.

If you receive a mysterious check, for enough money to erase all your worries, would you cash it?

I did.

The next month, I received another check, again from VRI Incorporated. It too contained a single word: "belong."

A third check, the next month. This time, two words. Four letters. "To me."

The checks kept coming. The notes stopped. Ten thousand dollars, every month. A girl gets used to that, real quick. It let me pay the bills without going into debt. Let me keep my baby brother in school and Mom's hospice care paid for. How do you turn down what seems like free money, when you're desperate? You don't. I didn't.

And then, after a year, there was a knock on my door. A sleek black limousine sat on the curb in front of my house. A driver stood in front of me, and he spoke six words: "It's time to pay your debt."

Would you have gotten in?

I did.

It turns out $120,000 doesn't come free.

***This is a sexy, heart-stopping, full-length standalone novel.***

“You’re here because I own you, Kyrie.”

It is with great sadness and disappointment that I write this review today. I have loved every single book that I have ever read by this particular author, her stories always having the power to transport me into a world where all my senses are heightened, my emotions no longer my own, a world where I become one with the characters. However, that was not the case with this book. From reading the excerpts, I was certain this story would be right up my alley, never doubting for a second my overall enjoyment of it. But I guess not all stories are for everyone, and this one simply was not the one for me.

“I own you but you will submit to me willingly.”

The premise of the book itself is pure brilliance. Kyrie, a girl struggling to make ends meet—the only provider for a mother who requires constant medical attention, and a younger brother who is still in college—receives a mysterious but desperately needed cheque in the mail with no accompanying explanation. The cheques keep arriving month after month, their substantial value allowing Kyrie not to worry about money for the first time in her adult life, but the mystery behind them never lessens, four cryptic words on the first three cheques making it certain that nothing in life comes for free: You Belong To Me. And that there would come a day when someone would eventually come to collect.

“What—what are you going to do to me?”
“Everything. But nothing you won’t enjoy.”

A year later, her ‘benefactor’ sends for her, her compliance never being in question as the alternative of paying back the funds is unfeasible, and so the real mystery begins.

First, don't begin this book until you have all day to read! This is one of those wow books. Jasinda Wilder just keeps getting better and better. Kylie meets her "mystery man" blindfolded. I felt as if I were blindfolded as well. I had no idea what this guy looked like. We learned to trust him just as Kyrie did. I was so impatient wanting to know what this guy looked like, how old he was, what he did for a living, and what awful secret that he had that would possibly make Kyrie walk away. Their meetings with the blindfold were HOT. Finally, at 46% we meet our guy. Whew!! Kyrie had to feel like the most treasured woman in the world. He worshiped her mind, body, and soul. Holy smokes, you will need a smoke after you read some of these scenes. I loved the bonus scene. No cliffhanger, but I want more!! The only complaint I would have is that I would have liked dual point of views, but it worked as written. This is another smash for Jasinda.

What makes this book different from all the other billionaire alpha books?

Eagle: The book’s biggest strength is its frame. The blurb sounds really good! But from the first page there are holes and ragged bits of plot that are either explained pretty lazily or dropped altogether. It’s been said a million times that if you’re going to write a billionaire alpha in these Fifty Shades-soaked times, it needs to be better than great.

Mistress L: I’m not one to flock to a billionaire book. If that word is in the title I will almost always avoid it. Having read the blurb on Alpha I assumed it was going to be a darker book than Wilder has given us before… Although I’m sad to report I ended up in a billionaire book regardless. It was predictable, cliched and I saw the “big secret” coming.

If the basic plot is great then where does it fall down?
Eagle: Everywhere! The character development is poor and there are some basic elements that just don’t make sense (for example, Kyrie acts as if her brother is a helpless child, when really he’s living in another city and attending university). Tension is established pretty effectively at the beginning as Kyrie is forbidden from seeing her captor, but it gets watered down by the end of the book and we end up with a syrupy mess of disconnected sex between two characters who, as it turns out, aren’t masking any hidden depths – they really are that shallow.

Mistress L: This book stopped dead for me around 70%. Keep in mind so many aspects of this story are as far-fetched as any other erotic romance, I pushed on. There were bumps along the way but I was down on my knees begging this story to pull through.

This book right here ... whoa. Smoking hot, sexy does not even begin to cover it :) By far the hottest book I have read so far this year!!

Kyrie finds herself in a tough spot. Broke, alone and needing just ONE thing to fall into place for her. Mysterious checks that will help cover all of her expenses start to arrive and what is one to do?? Cash them of course, lol. Take a risk, a gamble, who knows what the cost will actually be. Knock, knock, knock ... time to pay up. Ohhhhhh boy, I held my breath and had an internal freak out.

The sexual awakening in this book is crazy. Without knowing who the mystery man is or what he looks like, his voice sets Kyrie on fire. Why did she cash those checks? What will she ultimately owe? Ahhhhhhhh such a perfect book. This book was a super quick read, lots of twists and turns to keep me entertained. I don't want to say much, because there are so many interesting things that happen here ... Please read this book, you will not be disappointed at all.

Alpha did me in. I love this book so much! Jasinda, as always, made my day. Character development was fantastic and I instantly fell in love with all of them. I would love more to this story, but also like the fact that my mind can run free and explore where the book left off.
