Miss Merribeth Wakefield's almost fiance has just broken up with her after a five year "understanding". This development has tarnished her reputation, but Lady Eve Sterling has just the remedy: Kiss a rake. That rake turns out to be Bane, the Marquess of Knightswold. Bane is determined not to marry. He has only one thing on his mind: Revenge . . . and Miss Wakefield? Maybe there are two things on his mind now that he has met his Venus.

The ending of this book is the most romantic scenario I have ever read! This author gives us the most beautiful romance wrapped up with drama, humor and mystery. This intriguing plot keeps the reader flipping the pages with eager anticipation, while also making the reader want to savor every moment. Lorret's characters are unique, fun and complex. The H and h are perfect for each other. Every encounter sizzles. The author gives us the understanding needed to fully relate to all the characters, the good and the bad. The dialogue makes one want to join in, too. Vivienne Lorret is my new favorite romance author. We need more of her wonderful stories!

This was a nice counterpoint to some intense novels I've read lately. Pleasant, enjoyable, without much angst to stir the pot.

The author gave us a departure from the usual "rake doesn't want to be leg-shackled because he likes his freedom." Our rake, Bane, will not marry because he refuses to sire an heir; he wants the line to die with him as the ultimate revenge against his murderous grandfather.

Our wallflower, Merribeth, is on the verge of becoming a social pariah because she had been jilted. I didn't really understand this; she wasn't actually engaged. (Perhaps this was more thoroughly explored in an earlier book.) In this one, it seemed to me that the understanding she had with Clairmore was only in her mind. Puzzling.

Bane and Merribeth meet at a ball and, subsequently, at a two-week house party. The story really took off at this point and became very engaging. The author did a beautiful job of drawing Bane's character and all his raffishness. Great job. Merribeth, though, didn't seem as well fleshed-out, though I still liked her.

All in all, a pleasant read. And I got a much appreciated, though unintended, laugh from Lord Andringham bagging two pheasants with a "carbine"! LOL Startling, but it didn't detract from the story...just gave me a laugh. The author might want to reconsider her firearms.

Vivienne Lorret writes better then a huge proportion of romance writers, her plots are tight and fast paced. The writing is flawless and all characters and situations are true to the time. I have grown disparing of romance authors of late and finding this series was like finding a bucket of water in the desert. Great lead characters, great secondary characters. Lost of steamy tension without smut or gratuitous sex. I cannot rate this series or any of her books highly enough. I would gladly pay 8$ (kindle edition) for this book so only having to pay like 3 makes it even better. Please Ms Lorret never stop writing books of such great quality!!!!!!

Slow moving and ridiculously contrived. Merribeth's reputation is at stake over a betrothal that never existed (and no one knew about) and must make her recalcitrant beau jealous to bring him up to snuff. If she can't do this, why still be outcast forever. That first kiss with Bane, the rake, was the first warning that I'd have trouble with this story. There are conniving family members, house parties, and all sorts of silly situations. Too much of rumination going on. Lots of telling instead of showing. I didn't like anyone in this story, although Bane had promise for a couple of chapters. This author's style is not for me. I didn't finish it.

Loved the series and have preordered the next, my only complaint is not completeing the scene of the birth of the baby and what it is. I hate when they leave me hanging.

This is the second installment in the Wallflower Wedding series. Unfortunately, it was not nearly as good as the first. The premise just was too contrived and frankly irritating. Why wouldn't Bane see what his step-mother was up to when he knew of her past schemes? And Merribeth falling into bed with him, when she was devastated at her "ruined reputation" from a broken engagement, just didn't make sense. There was enough in the story to make it an OK read, but not one that I would strongly recommend. If you liked Daring Miss Danvers, be sure to read Finding Miss McFarlane. I think you would be OK skipping this one though.

It's an OK read. I liked some of the dialog...and this was the better out of the two of the books of this series that I read.

I have to be honest and say that I can't remember enjoying a book more than this one in recent memory and I've been lucky recently. I thought this author was new to me but I'd read her short story in '5 Golden Rings' and really liked it. This story is about an H, who is consumed with having revenge on his late grandfather and an h whose failed 'engagement' has caused her reputation to be damaged. What makes this book brilliant is the villainess, she really kept me guessing what she was up to. The tension between the innocent and h and the rakish H was not overdone. I really did feel the love building between them and although I know these stories always end well, I was worried for a while. Highly recommended second book in a series and I've now downloaded the first and pre-ordered the third.

+++Spoilers+++
Only read if you really want to know why it didn't get the 5th star. Anyone who knows my reviews, knows I hate it when the H takes the h's innocence then leaves her. This happened right towards the end and I was really annoyed that the H didn't fight for her immediately. The risk of pregnancy etc. Still there was a very nice ending and our suffering didn't last long.
