From Booklist

Charlotte Graham ushers Bryce Bishop, a collectible-coin dealer in Chicago, into her newly renovated coin shop right next door, threatening more competition than he can handle. But then she makes him an offer he can’t refuse. She won’t open her shop if he buys her inventory. It turns out she is unimaginably wealthy and anxious to dispose of the coins she inherited. Charlotte has a past she wants to forget: kidnapped at 16, she was held captive for four years and subjected to unspeakable things. Eighteen years later, she still rejects God because he didn’t save her. Meanwhile, police homicide investigator Ann Silver and Paul Falcon of the FBI, featured in Henderson’s Full Disclosure (2012), are investigating a cold case involving a baby boy who was kidnapped and killed. While intricate details about collectible coins and charitable giving make Henderson’s latest inspirational thriller curiously slow moving, Bryce’s faith is abundantly clear as he tries to bring Charlotte back to God. --Diana Tixier Herald --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

From the Back Cover

Charlotte Graham is at the center of the most famous kidnapping in Chicago history.

The task force of FBI and local cops found her two abductors, killed them, rescued her, but it took four very long years. The fact she was found less than three miles from her home, had been there the entire time, haunts them. She's changed her identity, found a profession she loves, and rebuilt her life.

She's never said a word--to the cops, to her doctors, to family--about those four years.

A family legacy has brought her back to Chicago where a reporter is writing a book about the kidnapping. The cops who worked the case are cooperating with him. Her options are limited: Hope the reporter doesn't find the full truth, or break her silence about what happened. And her silence is what has protected her family for years.

Bryce Bishop doesn't know her past, he only knows she has coins to sell from her grandfather's estate--and that the FBI director for the Chicago office made the introduction. The more he gets to know Charlotte, the more interested he becomes, an interest encouraged by those closest to her. But nothing else is working in his favor--she's decided she is single for life, she struggles with her faith, and she's willing to forego a huge inheritance to keep her privacy. She's not giving him much of an opening to work with.

Charlotte wants to trust him. She needs to tell him what happened. Because a crime cops thought was solved, has only opened another chapter...

I have long been a Dee Henderson fan, her romantic suspense novels surpass most any other author I have read. So I always jump at the chance to read her new releases in hopes of discovering a new favorite. Unspoken, something of a sequel to Full Disclosure, was released on Oct. 1.

Bryce Bishop is a successful rare coin dealer, but he’s bored…at least until Charlotte steps into his life with an offer he can’t refuse. As he helps Charlotte sell a collection of coins she inherited, Bryce begins to realize there is much more to this mysterious woman than he understands.

For most of her life, Charlotte has refused to speak about the one event that shaped her — four long years of captivity after her kidnapping. But her carefully constructed world begins to change as Bryce works his way into her heart. But there are still unanswered questions about the kidnappers — questions that could put her loved ones at risk.

Unspoken is an interesting tale of a woman’s deep hurts finally being overcome by a loving God and a godly man. As always, Henderson includes interesting details about little known subjects — like rare coins. Her writing itself is intelligent and each sentence well constructed. But the plot of Unspoken often lagged, and while I liked the characters, there wasn’t enough action to keep the novel moving forward, and instead it regularly lost my interest.

I was disappointed that I was never really given the chance to get to know Charlotte. Not only was she portrayed as guarded in the novel, her character was also guarded from the reader. While I understand how this could happen, Henderson dealt with a similar character in Danger in the Shadows, but there she still managed to allow the reader into Sara’s heart and mind.

Unspoken was to me, in a word, painful. To go from the top of her genre in Christian lit, to "painful" tells me we've perhaps seen the best of what Dee Henderson has to offer, and that's depressingly sad. Considering how much I loved Dee's first two series (especially the O'Malley series, which should have been turned into a TV series), it's painful for me to write this about her recent book. Actually, her last 2 books.

Unspoken left me with all kinds of questions: What happened to Henderson's passion? We know her to be a highly intelligent writer, which I love, yet each book written since the O'Malley series has contained less and less passion...from the author. Considering her "smarts," what was with the 200+ pages of coin details - surely she knew 90% of her reader's would skip, skim or loose interest. Asking that question leads to, Why have her editor and publisher chosen to turn a blind eye? And why am I sensing an overall sadness and heaviness from Henderson's last two books that I didn't feel in the earlier series, even given their subject matter? I respectfully ask: Will the real Dee Henderson please stand up?

I have to respectfully disagree with most of the other reviewers. Dee Henderson is one of my favorite authors and I own all of her books. This is the first time that I haven't been able to force myself to finish one of her books. Part One (almost two hundred pages) was all about a coin collection and selling it for millions. Plus lectures on giving to charity. When I got to Part Two and it started discussing a requirement to marry in order to inherit, I had to stop reading. Such a provision in a will is unenforceable and therefore doesn't create any kind of tension in the story as intended. Sorry, but there was no chemistry between the main characters and this read more like a treatise than a novel. I didn't even care enough about what happened to the characters to skim to the end.

From the master of Christian fiction comes another spell-binding book that is a mish-mash of romance, crime, action, drama, intrigue and suspense that will keep you at the edge of your seat until you turn the last page.

Unspoken by Dee Henderson, published by Bethany House Publishers, is not your regular fast-paced thriller but a comfortably paced story which makes reading a pleasure and a joy.

Unspoken is about the monotonous life of Bryce Bishop, a coin-dealer, which shifts into top-gear when a mysterious woman Charlotte Graham drops into his shop to sell a cache of coins. After several business deals Bryce is interested in her on a personal level. Charlotte also enjoys his company. But she is unwilling to go the distance as it would compromise a lot of things. Bryce is also completely in the dark about her past.

But something unthinkable happened! A reporter is digging for materials to write a book on the most famous kidnapping in Chicago history - a past she had thought was so painstakingly buried. Will the truth comes to light after so many years? And who is Charlotte really? Can she really trust Bryce?

To go back in time, Charlotte Graham and her sister were kidnapped, and while her sister was released Charlotte was held for four years. After her release she discovers she has inherited a coin collection from her grandfather. And it is in the process of selling the coins that Charlotte met Bryce. The question is: what happened during her four years of captivity? It is a secret she has carefully guarded - a secret that compelled her to change identity. Will she trust Bryce enough to share the secrets of her years in captivity or will they always remain unspoken? Will she ever be free from the past that continues to haunt her?
