Diane Chamberlain is the international bestselling author of more than twenty-two novels. She lives in North Carolina with her partner, photographer John Pagliuca, and her Shetland Sheepdogs, Keeper and Cole.
I grew up in Plainfield, New Jersey where, at the age of twelve, I wrote several dreadful novellas, read and admired only by my family. When college rolled around, I forgot about writing and received my bachelor's and master's degrees in Social Work from San Diego State University. I was a hospital social worker in San Diego, and later in Washington DC. I also had a private psychotherapy practice working mainly with teenagers. All the while, I was writing on the side. I viewed my writing as a hobby, but it quickly became a passion. I finally decided to take a class in 'writing the novel.' I was very shy about showing my work to the instructor, but when I finally did, he loved it! He encouraged me to aim for publication and I decided to go for it. A few years later, my first novel, PRIVATE RELATIONS, was published.
Since then, I've written about a book a year- twenty-three at last count. I now live in North Carolina, the beautiful state where many of my books are set and where I'm ten minutes from my grandbabies. I share my life with my soulmate, John, who's a photographer as well as my muse, and with my two shelties, Keeper and Jet.
Are you wondering what my books are about? One of my readers in Japan had this to say about my work: "You make me believe life is beautiful even if it is full of pain and rage." Her words touch me deeply. They hang on the wall above my computer and help me remember exactly what it is I'm trying to achieve in my stories. I hope you'll enjoy them.
Was delighted to find Diane Chamberlain’s PRIVATE RELATIONS, 25TH Anniversary Edition, re-release in e-book format. I have read 21 of Diane’s books, a huge fan--one of my favorite authors! (there only two remaining I have not read which are older—have purchased them, and currently sitting in my e-reader to read--The Courage Tree and Fire and Rain, which I missed along the way.)
Ironically, Private Relations, is Chamberlain’s first book, and have just finished reading an ARC of her latest, upcoming book #23 The Silent Sister (coming Oct 7, 2014)—which is a 5 Star read, and one you will not want to miss—Would recommend pre-ordering!
Wow, what a journey, and your fans thank you for giving up your career for full time writing years ago, as a bestselling author! Many engaging, complex, inspiring and satisfying books in between. Of course, her social work, most definitely offered her much insight for her bestselling books.
Fans of Diane will appreciate her personal note at the beginning of PRIVATE RELATIONS, as she was working as a hospital social worker when she began writing this book as a hobby. Gradually, her hobby became an obsession. She describes her journey with Private Relations, and editing process, as it went on to win the RITA award for Best Single Title Contemporary Romance of 1989-a great accomplishment for a new writer. Boy, has she come a long way--Congrats!
Divorced and lonely, Kit returned east from Seattle to join her old college crowd in a rented beach house for the summer. She meets Cole, and her life turned around, filling her with a new vitality. But Cole had a secret that could destroy their tender new relationship.Read more ›

This was the first book that I read by this author, but definitely not the last. I still think it is her best; I was completely taken into the story. When I need a book that provides a good visit with old friends, I pick up this book again.

I've read five of Chamberlain's books that sealed the deal for me being a fan (Secret Lives, Summer's Child, The Courage Tree, Cypress Point and especially Breaking the Silence). Private Relations missed her mark and is sub-par of her skill. I'll skip the story line - Amazon supplies that - and recommend Diane Chamberlain as an author, but only die-hard, going-to-read-all-of-her-books fans should spend their time on this novel. Don't judge her by this one.

This is the only book I had not read by Diane Chamberlain. It was really wonderful. She is by far my favorite author. She never disappoints me. I recommend all her books Sincerely, Marilyn Hagmann
