About the Author
Kristen Ashley grew up in Indiana, but has lived in Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus she has been blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her posse is loopy (to say the least), but loopy is good when you want to write. Kristen was raised in a house with a large and multi-generational family. They lived on a very small farm in a small town in the heartland and existed amongst the strains of Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched). Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up. And as she keeps growing up, it keeps getting better.

Kristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA and nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorise and she hadn't taken her first breath!). Her mother said they took Kristen away, put her Mom back in her room, her mother looked out the window, and Gary was on fire (Dr. King had been assassinated four days before). Kristen's Mom remembered thinking it was the end of the world. Quite the dramatic beginning.
Nothing's changed.

Let me start off by saying that erotic romance is something I love and I am so thrilled that one of my favorite romance authors has branched off into this genre.
One other thing - KA isn't hiding what this novel is - she says it right in the description that this book is erotic and portraying an anti-hero. It seems like those who reviewed negatively, at least some of them, ignored that or didn't read it in the description since those elements seemed to be what turned them off.
Now for the review. Oh. Em. Gee.
Knight is a man. A. MAN.
Anya? She's his woman. That means he's going to treat her how his woman ought to be treated. So will everyone else. End of story. Period.
Sounds like a typical KA hero, right? Right.
Well, here's the difference. Knight was born the kind of person that he is, grew up that way and mastered that way of life. And that person has darkness in him. He's accepted it and when I say there's darkness in him, I'm not talking just a troubled past (which he has) or taking on the tough stuff in life to protect others (which he has). I'm talking about innate, deep seated needs that he doesn't deny, hide or try to disguise as anything other than what they are. He's up front, honest and blunt about it to Anya from the beginning of their relationship.
If she can handle his needs, she gets everything in return. Anything. Whatever is in his power to make her happy.
And for Anya, someone who has had to earn everything in her life through hard work, who has never had anyone she could really depend on - it's almost too good to be true while at the same time being frightening and intriguing.Read more ›

How much did I hate this book when I first read it?
Holy Moly. The characters were freaky--he is, like, a TOTAL control kind of guy and she seemed to be just a little to tries-too-hard-to-blend-in with her whisper-like "yeah" responses.
I finished it on a Friday night with a Thankful Sigh.
But, truthfully, I can't get this FREAKING storyline out of my head. I have re-read this book three times already in less than a week and have, at long last, discovered/revealed/admitted that I want/desire/need myself a Knight.
Disturbing storyline? Uh-huh.
Intriguing characters? You betcha.
I really hated this book.
Okay, truthfully? My eyes were glued to every page on my Kindle as I read. My eyes were caught, like a deer in the headlights, on every word of every page.
This is so NOT my scene. And,yet, I couldn't get it out of my mind (but it still kind of resides there, days later). Did I already say that?
Viv really grounds the experiences of Anya and helps me to explain my fascination with the story line of 'Knight'. Explaining that it is not about control or pain but about trust and the relationship; which my head and heart are starting to really understand or in the words of the author, "get".
This is an amazing book that hooks you with it's verbiage--not verbiage or even a storyline that is the accepted 'norm'--but a tale with syntax that you can 'hear' in your heart and head. It is a story that never lets you go from start to finish.
You root for the characters, both Knight and Anya (geez, even Anya's friends and Knight's employees!) and boo anything that gets into the path of fulfillment of them.
Too dirty? Yep, at first reading. But, as I think on it, I've read dirtier scenes that were not as thrilling.Read more ›

i have read this book twice now and cannot put into words how compelling this story is. what girl doesnt dream of the bad boy who treats them like gold? knight is a man you dont mess with and he means it when he says he protects what is his. this book is exciting, thought provoking and sexy as all get out. if u havent already read it...do yourself a favor and buy this book now! i promise you wont want to put it down!

Initial Thoughts:
I have grown to LOVE Kristen Ashley books. I have read the entire Colorado Mountain Man, Mystery Man, and Rock Chick Series. I'm currently working my way through the 'Burg series, but this one by her caught my eye, so I took a break from the 'Burg to read this one.
The Pros:
This book was completely different than Ashley's other novels. It was a refreshing change of pace for her.
Ashley left behind her normal Denverite speak for this one. I can't decide if that's good or bad, I think I've grown to like it.
Knight was MUCH hotter than KA's other novels. Much. Much. Much much.
There were some really sweet quotes from Knight that made me go all "awwwwww!"
The Cons:
Anya calling Knight "Daddy". Um. Ew?
It felt like a Fifty Shades knock off, and not in a good way.
Knight's actual business was SHOCKING. And how could Anya stay with him after that? She barely even thought about it.
The whole novel felt a little rushed. Maybe she should have broken it down into two books and took a little more time on character development.
The Wrap Up:
I think I like Kristen Ashley's typical novels better. This one just seemed a little too forced for me, and the "Daddy" bit creeped me right out.
Favorite Quote:
" 'Wars fought over a face like this,' he murmured like he was talking to himself, my heart stopped beating and his thumbs moved lightly across my cheeks. 'A man would work himself into the ground for it, go down to his knees to beg to keep it, endure torture to protect it, take a bullet for it,' his eyes came to mine, 'poison his brother to possess a face like this.' "
