From the Back Cover

When love simmers between a reclusive scientist and a wealthy debutante, will they abandon ship or is it full steam ahead?

Nicole Renard returns home to Galveston, Texas, to find her father deathly ill. Though she loves him, Nicole's father has always focused on what she's not. Not male. Not married. Not able to run Renard Shipping.

Vowing to find a suitable husband to give her father the heir he desires before it's too late, Nicole sets out with the Renard family's greatest treasure as her dowry: the highly coveted Lafitte Dagger. But her father's rivals come after the dagger, forcing a change in Nicole's plans.

After a boiler explosion aboard the Louisiana nearly took his life, Darius Thornton has been a man obsessed. He will do anything to stop even one more steamship disaster. Even if it means letting a female secretary into his secluded world.

Nicole is determined not to let her odd employer scare her off with his explosive experiments, yet when respect and mutual attraction grow between them, a new fear arises. How can she acquire an heir for her father when her heart belongs to another? And when her father's rivals discover her hiding place, will she have to choose between that love and her family's legacy?

"Witemeyer's latest is full-steam-ahead good! Readers will appreciate the research the author has done to give her story depth and give her characters added dimension. They will also enjoy the solid storyline, mystery elements and humorous moments."  -RT Book Reviews

I keep expecting Witemeyer to come out with a book that I think is just okay, not amazing. Yet every time, she manages to wow me with yet another awesome story. Full Steam Ahead impressed me on so many levels: the history, the setting, the characters, and, the thing that defines every Witemeyer book and sets her above so many authors, the strong faith element.
Full Steam Ahead was a bit more… well steamy than some of Witemeyer’s other books. There were several kissing scenes in this book and, often, a book with as much kissing as this one would have gotten a star knocked off for my personal tastes, but this one maintained five stars.

I liked Nicole form the first moment I started reading about her. She is so smart and sassy, yet I was surprised that she also maintained her femininity, proving Witemeyer’s skill and ability to break the molds. Nicole was an endearing character, and I hope that Witemeyer writes a prequel about her someday.

Darius was such a heart-breaking character. His pain felt so real and his quest so understandable. He was a perfect match for Nicole. Most authors miss the mark when it comes to obsessed/broken characters. However, Darius was very life-like and lovable.
About half-way through the book, I thought that this was going to be the first Karen Witemeyer book without a strong faith element, and I was disappointed. However, just a short chapter or so later, the message hit and it hit hard. I was near tears! How she wove the threads into the story without me realizing it, I don’t know, but it was awesome.

I highly recommend this book to older girls who love historical romance, strong faith, and endearing characters.

I received this book from Bethany House in exchange for my honest review. I was under no obligation to write a positive review. The opinions in this review are entirely my own.

I absolute love her books and this was no exception. There are a lot of writers in the Christian Romance genre but you are hard pressed to find anything spiritual in their books. Karen does an excellent job of adding Biblical references into her books without sounding preachy or condescending. Her characters are always flawed but real. She also includes factual information about either an area of the world or something of historical interest. As her characters grow in romance, you also grow in knowledge of somewhere or something from the past. The way she weaves all this together is masterful. Reading one of her stories is never a waste of time and I eagerly await her next novel as well. Kudos to you Ms. Witemeyer for another success.

I am a very big fan of Ms. Karen Witemeyer's books so of course I was very excited about her new book coming out. I was automatically pulled in from the first few pages, it was so good that I started and finished it in two days, I found myself never wanting to put it down. Her books have never disappointed me and this one I will happily say was no different!
Nicole Renard was a very strong female character and I really loved her. I loved the strength she displayed as well are her courage to protect her family even when it could very well put her life in danger, the selflessness she displayed in these acts was admirable. I found myself learning from Nicole's character. She was stubborn and determined which at times came in handy and I enjoyed her spunk (especially when she stood up to Darius and his bullheadedness) but at other times did get her in trouble. She comes from a very refined and proper family and this is the air she displayed upon first meeting but those who knew her knew she that she is a fighter and stands up to those that she is smaller than. She was afraid but had the courage to beat all when she needed it. I loved how she never hid her intelligence. Aside from all the rough and tough traits she had, she was very sweet and caring as well. I really enjoyed getting to "know" her and enjoyed her character very much.
Darius Thornton was a hero unlike any other I think I have ever read I do believe. I have never read a story about a mad scientist, his character was very intriguing. As Nicole broke his walls you seen a glimpses of a man, a hurting man and well as a gentleman. His determination to help others and save lives based on destruction he seen first hand touches depths of the heart.

Full Steam Ahead is one of my favorite books that Karen has written. It will make my Top Ten this year. It’s filled with fascinating history regarding steam engines, lots of daring adventure, and her trademark humor woven in with a beautiful message of faith.

Darius’s singular dedication to finding a much needed solution to huge problems in the steam engines is an admirable quality. I hurt for him, that he was so weighed down with guilt from the riverboat accident. What will ever free him from these feelings?

Nicole is an amazingly strong character whom I found to be quite believable. Knowing she is ultimately protecting her family by stealing away with a treasured family heirloom, she is unafraid to face travelling alone and the dangers that await her wherever she goes. She is a woman with a dilemma. Her father needs an heir so she must find a husband immediately. Will she find the solution to her problem?

All of the characters, from Nicole and Darius, to her parents and his family, are complex three dimensional characters. I absolutely loved the reclusive scientist plot line, the greedy evil doer after the Lafitte Dagger, and Jacob. Who is Jacob, you ask? Well, you will just have to read the book to find out. I hear he gets his own story in 2015!

Thanks to Karen Witemeyer and Bethany House Publishers for providing me with a copy for review purposes. No monetary compensation was received.
