Hannah Wickes, her husband Adam, and their toddler daughter Cindy are living a quiet unassuming life in Philadelphia. All that changes when a neighbor who is baby sitting Cindy suffers a heart attack and is saved by the quick actions of a homeless vet who hears Cindy’s screams and breaks into the house. The woman is the mother of a prominent local politician and almost instantly the media is there. Suddenly, Hannah and Adam are in the news.
This is not a good thing.
Because Hannah and Adam are not Cindy’s parents, they are her grandparents. And Cindy’s name is Sydney, not Cindy.
Flashback to eighteen months prior and we learn the circumstances of this deception. The bulk of the book is set in Tennessee and covers the events leading up to Hannah’s move to Philadelphia. It involves Adam and Hannah; their daughter Lisa, who is an intellectually advanced young adult prepping for the medical profession who has difficulty bonding with her young daughter; her companion, a male nurse at the hospital where she interns; Hannah’s distant mother Pamela; and assorted neighbors and co-workers. I can’t say much more without giving the plot twists away, but each character has secrets in their past that mold the events of the novel.
I SEE YOU is a fast moving and involving read. The dark plot contained some interesting themes that made you think beyond the confines of the story. My only quibble is that the book could have used better editing to plug up one or two plot holes of characters acting inconsistently, one major discrepancy in legal procedures, and an annoying tendency of one character to “cry” when he speaks.
But I enjoyed the book, and its themes will stay with me for quite a while.

This is my first novel from this author and I found it to be an excellent psychological thriller with some very dark themes, handled well in an extremely readable fashion that kept me turning the pages long into the night.
Hannah, Adam and Sydney are in hiding, under assumed identities, due to a problem in their past. When an unexpected event throws them into the spotlight, the past comes back to haunt them in a terrifying fashion.
This was intelligently constructed, the past event that lead them into hiding is not what you might think and the characters are all well drawn, complicated in some ways, but eminently intriguing. There is a strong undercurrent of menace that runs through the narrative keeping you on edge and the story flows along with a perfect flow, understanding of the true nature of the danger facing them unfolding in thought provoking fashion.
Overall a terrific read, one that has encouraged me to try some other novels from Patricia Macdonald.
Happy Reading Folks!

Hannah, Adam and Sydney Wickes are living under assumed identities in Philadelphia. All that changes when an unexpected tragedy throws the spotlight of publicity onto the Wickes family, putting them in serious danger. Because Hannah and those she loves are hiding a dark secret in their past, a secret that has torn their lives apart. For what do you do when the person you should love the most poses the greatest threat? The Wickes' sinister family secret is destined to catch up with them - with terrifying consequences.
What a page turner! Intense, dreadful, spine tingling are words that come to mind. I never expected the reason as to why the Wickes' were in hiding. The story was well done, but the dialog between Hannah and Adam often felt awkward and strange.
Overall, a very well done thriller. I most go put some of Ms. MacDonald's books on to to be read list.
I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

I've always been a big fan of this author. But didn't care for the sick sexual issue that the daughter had. Especially concerning a child. I would have preferred a psycopath with murder on the mind or split personality. Anything other than what it was. Kinda ruined the story for me.

$15.49 for an ebook? I'll read it when it goes down about $4.00. There are much better and more famous writers out there that don't charge near that much.
