I’ll be honest, the past couple Shalvis books I’ve read just haven’t worked for me. They were ok, but not wonderful. Well, this one, Then Came You, was WONDERFUL! This is my favorite Shalvis book ever!

Emily has a PLAN for her life. Having a plan has helped her survive some really tough years. Now she’s finished veterinary school and is on to the one year internship that came with her scholarship. Unfortunately, it’s not in L.A. like she planned. Nope. She’s in Sunshine, Idaho. So she’s altered her plan and is counting down the 365 days before she can get back on track.

Wyatt is one more thing she didn’t plan on. He was a one night stand at a convention a few months ago, and now… he’s her supervisor. This probably shouldn’t be a problem. They’re both professionals, after all. But he’s really cute, and he wears funny t-shirts, and she thinks he’s hot looking no matter what he’s wearing. And then there’s the blisteringly hot chemistry that keeps popping up and they just can’t deny. They both know the score, though. Wyatt’s looking for roots and permanency. Emily is doing her time and moving on. They just need to remember not to fall for each other.

If you’ve read a few of my reviews, you know that I like low conflict contemporary romance. Lauren Dane’s Brown Siblings series is one of my favorites. This book is a lighter, funnier version of that kind of romance, and I loved it! Emily and Wyatt actually talk to each other (most of the time.) They have messed up lives and siblings and friends. And as always in a Jill Shalvis book, the humor and the dialog shine!

“You do realize that I totally blame you,” she said, breaking the silence.
“For?

Then Came You is classic Jill Shalvis through and through, meaning it's laugh-out-loud hilarious, wickedly hot, and wildly entertaining from beginning to end. This book should come with a warning, but as it doesn't I'll provide one: Do not start reading Then Came You late at night. Should you do so, you'll be reading until you can no longer keep your eyes open...and then you'll dive right back in as soon as you wake up. Yes, it's that addictive.

Just when I think I can't love her heroes and heroines more, Ms. Shalvis captures my heart with a too-sexy-for-words veterinarian and a bright and funny veterinary intern with a plan that's about to be derailed. Both Wyatt and Emily charmed the hell out of me with their caring hearts and pure, unadulterated love for animals. The chemistry between them is fantastic, their banter will make you smile, and the steam factor will have you cranking up the A/C this summer. Without a doubt, Wyatt and Emily are perfect for each other, but Ms. Shalvis doesn't make the road to happily ever after a smooth one for these two. Each of them has been marked by their pasts, and because of this they now have set life plans that threaten to take them in two different directions despite their mutual attraction. How things work out for them is something I won't reveal, but I will say that the ending is worth every bump in the road.

Then Came You is the fifth book in the Animal Magnetism series, but it can easily be read as a standalone. Whether you've been with this series from the beginning or are just jumping in, you're sure to fall in love with the Animal Magnetism world. Ms. Shalvis creates the best small towns, and I'd move to Sunshine, Idaho in a hot second if it were real.

To quote Emily, "Hot guys and animals...a damn fine combination.

Remember the old, old song "Henry the 8th" and the line "second verse, same as the first'? Replace "verse" with "book" and that about covers it.
Animal Magnetism was great, so I had high hopes for Then Came You, the second installment in this series. I didn't realize, however, that they were pretty much the exact same book.
In the first book, it was widely know that Jade was only staying temporarily and guess what? So was Emily in this book. Jade didn't want to get involved because she was leaving and guess what? Neither did Wyatt in this book. Dell's family abandoned him and Wyatt felt abandoned by his world traveling parents. Female patients were all over Dell and Jade ran interference. Female patients were horndogs for Wyatt and horndog Emily ran interference. Jade kept everything in spread sheets, Emily had The Plan where she meticulously mapped out her goals. Jade talked about how Dell had a sexy voice, Emily talked about how Wyatt had a sexy voice. It's like Shalvis just changed the names and wrote the same book.
But the singularly most annoying aspect of this book was Emily. If she didn't tell Wyatt he was sexy once, she told him fifty times. Then she'd be all "oh gosh, golly gee, I can't believe I said that." *blush blush* UGH. If you're going to be constantly coming on to a guy, have the b*lls to follow it up. Don't pretend. Unfortunately, Wyatt wasn't reciprocating with similiar comments and it made her look like a horndog, too. At one point, she ended things with him, then faked up a reason to come to his house to tell him again it was over and again how they couldn't sleep with each other anymore. Huh?! Protestations of how they couldn't sleep together were usually followed by them sleeping together.
