About the Author

Kristen Ashley grew up in Indiana but has lived in Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus she has been blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her posse is loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write. Kristen was raised in a house with a large and multi-generational family. They lived on a very small farm in a small town in the heartland and existed amongst the strains of Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched). Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up. And as she keeps growing up, it keeps getting better.

More About the Author

Kristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA and nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorise and she hadn't taken her first breath!). Her mother said they took Kristen away, put her Mom back in her room, her mother looked out the window, and Gary was on fire (Dr. King had been assassinated four days before). Kristen's Mom remembered thinking it was the end of the world. Quite the dramatic beginning.

Nothing's changed.

Kristen grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana and has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus, she's blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her family was (is) loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write. They all lived together on a very small farm in a small farm town in the heartland. She grew up with Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched).

Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up.

And as she keeps growing, it keeps getting better.

KA is my favorite author - her books are the only ones that I read and re-read multiple times.

I loved how Raid was a super hot alpha male but also kind and considerate.

Raid is the third book in Kristen Ashley's Unfinished Heroes series, following Knight (The Unfinished Hero Series) and Creed (Unfinished Heroes).

Yes, I am a huge fan of KA's work. Yes, I gave this book 3 stars (which, by the way, does NOT mean I hated it; it means I thought it was "OK"). Yes, I expect all of KA's fans to start immediately marking this review as "unhelpful" and, yes, I decided to write it anyway.

What's the point of writing reviews (or reading them, either) if they're not honest? If a reader honestly thinks a book was worthy of 5 stars then, by all means, they should give it the 5 stars. But if a reviewer is giving a book 5 stars strictly on the basis of author loyalty, then the whole reviewing system becomes worthless for the potential readers of any given book. Do you get me?

OK, off my soapbox and on to the book. This is the story of alpha hot guy Raiden Ulysses Miller, former marine, current "off the grid" bounty hunter and Hanna Bourdeaux, a quiet, nice girl who enjoys books and movies and creates designer afghans for a living - and who has been in love with Raid since she was 6 years old.

I liked Hanna and I liked Raid, but... to me, Raid was just a rehashed combination of Knight and Hawk (from Mystery Man). In fact, he spoke exactly like Knight. There wasn't too much of anything original about the character. Hanna was a combination of Gwen (also from Mystery Man) and Lexie (from Lady Luck), two of my favorite KA heroines, but she lacked the strength of personality of either of them.

I really love Kristen, she has a writing style that just rocks my world. In this book though it was the first time I was ever a bit disappointed. Compared to all her other books this one just felt lacking. The book was short, felt rushed (meeting a deadline?) and not as intense.
*spoiler* She almost went the way of Knight by making a reference to spanking, and then we never hear about it again. Raid likes to play apparently, but it seems only one sex scene (and there are not a lot) even comes close to being kinky.
I still enjoyed this book but it was a bit of a let down for me. I just hope she realizes that I will be willing to wait just that much longer for her next book if it is a step up from this one.

i've read just about all of Ms. Ashley's books (Dream Man series, Rock Chick series, Unfinished Heroes series etc) except for her fantasy series. While I agree with many of the comments that I've read about her stories being 'addicting', my issue is that most of her 'heroes' are reminiscent of each other so although it's a different story, it's like the same people. Her character development formula has been recycled and reused so many times it's quite comical. It truly does take away from the essence of her storyline and in all honesty, I'm beginning to view her as a LAZY writer. Yes she found a good niche in terms of creating a story line but her plots are weak and after reading 3-4 of her books, it becomes: hmmm..why bother to waste my $ when i'm getting the same thing?

even the language is repeated...Shy says "tear each other up..." Raid says "tear each other up..." at some point in the stories, the H "shatters" the h causing her to tuck her tails between her legs and flee only for the H to make chase. None of the H's actually ever apologize for their tempers and cruelty and ALL of the h's forgive and take them back...

I don't know what's going on with Ms. Ashley's writing of late but this once a fan is saying bye bye to her.

I really love KAs books and was so excited when this one came out... until I read it. It just seems like the same people over and over. The only difference is the alpha males ( which I love) are just kind of douchebags ( which I don't love) and Hanna is definitely too stupid to live. He tells her he is a criminal and she is freaked out and ten minutes later she totally understands and is fine with whatever he does. It just seemed to me that she was lacking something all of her other heroines have (a backbone maybe). Whatever he said was fine and any decisions he made were ok by her. It was more like she was desperate than in love, but that's just my opinion. I hated the way it skipped weeks and months at a time and we never read the conclusions to a lot of their conflicts ( he has nightmares for years and after one conversation with his buddy they are over?), they were just magically solved. I liked Raid, but thought there could have been a lot more to him and he deserved a better "reward" than someone who gives up everything she believes in just to keep a man. On that note, I still love KA and can't wait until the Chaos series and hope I love Shy and Tabby as much as I did in Motorcycle Man!

I want to make it clear that I downloaded and read the sample before I bought the book because I wanted to make an informed decision. In the sample, "Raid" and Hanna hadn't met yet. I also want to make it clear that I stopped reading the book about 30% in because I couldn't take it anymore. I think I'm going to give up reading romances.

Let's talk about the hero's name - Raid. Bug spray, right? I thought I could probably get over it, but I found that I couldn't. Its a stupid name.

Secondly, I can't stand men who don't have the manners to censor their language around women. They don't have to totally clean it up, but he talks to Hanna like a marine in a conversation with other marines. He watches it around "Grams" but not around Hanna. This to me, communicates disrespect. It also makes Raid (God, I really hate that name) seem dumb. There are ways to write an alpha dog without making him into a complete jerk. Raid just struck me as a jerk.

Hanna was a bumbling idiot. The idea that one quilter can supply 200 stores with quilts and preserves is simply a logistical impossibility. The fact that she just goes along with everything he says and does - it's like she's not even a person. It makes her seem desperate. I really just hated this book. I gave it 2 stars because apparently this is a typical book for this author and she does have a following who really likes her work. It's not her fault that this particular reader isn't picking up what she's putting down.
