This book was just not good. There's no other way to describe it.
1) It was plagued with grammatical and spelling errors that got worse near the end.
2) The plot didn't really work or make sense.
3) The story seemed to drag without anything really bad happening for eighty percent of the book and then suddenly it gets super dramatic and overly climatic in the last couple chapters. Then the author throws a strange curve ball in the last two pages that seems overly disjointed from the rest of the story.
In conclusion of whether or not I would read the sequel, I have to say absolutely not. The curve ball at the end was just so weird that it seemed to be only placed there so that the author could make a sequel that didn't even fit with the rest of the book (that wasn't very good anyway).

she kept changing her facts, she kept changing her characters, and did nothing but confuse me. the author didn't clarify any passages of time, created zero transactions, no images, left out so many details vital to a story telling, I didn't get any more information out of the book than I did in the summary. She didn't care enough to take the time to edit; there were so many errors, grammatical, spelling, structure, she skipped words... I understand this could very well be her own story, but if she wanted her story to be told that badly, why is she not putting the effort to try to make the reader understand the feeling, the detail of it all. This had some good potential but the way she jumped around with it... it just wasn't good.

Aside from the atrocious grammar and spelling/punctuation errors, this felt like it was written by a young teen for a young teen audience. Short dumbed down sentences, corny lines, unreal situations and eye-rolling stereotypes.

The story was sssssooooooooo drawn out and the character development was just...nothing. The story droned on and on about how much the boy next door made her heart flutter every time he held her hand which was all so dull. And then all of a sudden, at the very end of the book (as in the very last few pages), the secret was revealed and there was a (pointless) twist. The latter is not aimed to help you understand the story more but simply aimed to get you to buy the next installment of the book.

Overall there was no 'meat' in this book. For example, after all the talk of juvenile kissing (so dull) the perfect boy next door gets her into bed and they have sex but there is no analysis of this, no sense of how she feels during or about sex, no moral question mark about teen sex and not a single physical detail or psychological insight - particularly ridiculous given that the whole premise of the story is based on her being raped.

And even that I still don't understand. Was her father paying this guy to do the dirty with his daughter? Did the father get off by watching? What?? Why??

Some books make me feel like I wasted hours of my life. This book was one of those.

The amount of spelling and grammatical errors was downright embarrassing. The mystery behind the main characters was quickly dissolved and the "twist" at the end was a desperate attempt to prolong this weak storyline.
On the other hand, I can appreciate the author's choice to bring up a difficult topic such as sexual abuse. I will, in fact, read the sequel in hopes of relieving my disappointment.

I am shocked by the vehement reviews for this story. One extreme to the other. Either hate it & don't enjoy (grammatical errors, not withstanding) or love it...not much in between. I enjoyed the story & had a hard time setting it aside. I am sure it is because of my own experiences, I am a survivor - not a victim - of childhood sexual abuse. I read some comments and heard reviewers saying this doesn't seem a likely story. If so, it must be nice to live in " La-La Land". My own experience is not unusual. It took me years to be able to speak up about it, so the idea of being totally silent isn't a big jump for me to believe in. Yes, the story dragged in places. Yes it had bad editing. I've read books by other authors that I didn't like the story, but I didn't come to the sad conclusion to never read another story by that particular author. Give it a try. If it doesn't hold your attention by the 3rd or 4th chapter, set it down & try a different book. There are plenty of stories available. Kudos to Natasha Preston for having the courage to write about a "taboo" subject and then getting it published!

I bought this book because of the beautiful cover and the interesting summary. I needed something romantic, but still depressing to read, and this seemed like it was it.
It was lacking, to say the least. The book was still good, but not as good as it could've been. I didn't identify with the characters enough to feel their pain, their fear, their excitement which really kept the book from being anything but okay. I felt like the author started into the story too fast, without giving us time to get to know the characters, and then let everything from there be pretty predictable. A few twists came up here and there, but nothing enough to make me really surprised or upset.
3.5 stars.
