This is a character driven story, a great blend of drama and some humor.

There was something happening in every chapter that made me want to keep reading and flipping the pages until the late hours of the night.

I love this series! Molly O'Keefe sure knows how to write romances driven by emotional connections. There is also a bit of passion here too, although it is tamer than the prior two books in the Boys of Bishop series which I have read. I also loved that we got to revisit some of my favorite characters from Book 2 of the Boys of Bishop series, as the hero in this story is the brother of the heroine in Never Been Kissed. Last, but definitely not least, Ms. O'Keefe's attention to the seedier side of political life is also to be commended, as it plays a prominent role in this novel and provides for an interesting side story to the romance.

Although this is the fourth book in the Boys of Bishop series, which details the love lives of various couples having some connection to the small town of Bishop, Arkansas, this book can be read as a standalone. To the extent you do plan on reading the entire series, there is some benefit to reading the books in chronological order, as prior characters do make appearances and continue to develop in the later books. In particular, you should plan on reading Never Been Kissed, Book 2, before this book as there are spoilers with respect to the couple in that story as this one pretty much takes place concurrently.

Harrison Montgomery was born into politics. His father is a long-time politician who even ran for Vice President of the United States at one time. Growing up in the spotlight, he didn't have much of a childhood. Not just because of the press, but because his family has always made it clear that politics take precedence over everything, even a normal, loving family life. In fact, the most domestic situations he can remember growing-up, where usually staged photo ops.

This book 4 in the Boys of Bishop series and I dare say one of the best. I discovered Ms O'Keefe's books by chance earlier this year and I absolutely loved this series. The stories appear to be variations of the small-town romance (a favourite of mine) but they stand out with their edginess, emotional intensity and depth of conflict and character development.

This book can be read as a standalone, but I'd recommend to read Never Been Kissed where we meet Harrison for the first time. Some of the events in the two books are parallel to some extend and what happens with Ashley (she is his sister) affects Harrison and his decisions about his life a lot.

Harrison and Ryan's (the heroine, despite the man's name) romance represents an interesting twist on the marriage of convenience trope. The couple go through so much together- starting off with a lot of passion and openness, going through total fakeness of their relationship and to finally reaching a well-deserved true HEA.

Harrison was a likable guy, the perfect politician on the outside, but troubled, empty and disappointed on the inside. He underwent a complete change throughout this story which altered profoundly his life. I loved the new person he became - loving, caring, open and honest.

Despite my appreciation for Harrison's transformation and growth, it was Ryan who stole the show in this story for me. It's a rare thing for me to like the heroine in romance more than the hero, but Ryan was fantastic. There so much depth and complexity in her character, it was a true pleasure to read about her. I liked how she was in her 30s - she had had a rough life, she had been through a lot, personally and professionally.

Half of the book was Harrison being a cold hearted, stuck up boob, which I kinda loved because we saw him change and grow with the help and strength of Ryan. I loved her she did wonders for Harrison showed him that he didn't have to be all about expectations, and she's a girl who doesn't mind putting protection in her own hands, "oh, you southern boys haven't gotten the memo - we northern women can take care of things." She got up off the bed, pulling off her damp and messy G-string, the tank top." She's also a woman not afraid to stand up for herself and defend herself, "and that makes it even more funny. Listen, Harrison, you broke into my apartment. Called me stupid. All but accused me of being a gold-digging wh***. I wouldn't marry you if you were the last man on earth." She also has the damn stubborn side that Harrison has, "you bout a wife." She shook back her hair, her smile not quite up to full wattage, but he gave her points for trying. "You'll get a wife." Normally I'd be swooning over the man but this book it was Ryan I was swooning over like seriously I'd totally marry her. I loved reading this book, I really did fall in love with Ryan and I'm really hoping Wallace ole' boy gets his own book.

If asked if I would a book concerning a political candidate, I would have given a resounding NO. That is until Molly O’Keefe introduced Harrison Montgomery in Never Been Kissed. How could you not love a brother trying to do whatever it takes to save his sister? From then on, I wanted to know about this steadfast brother, who I would vote for in a heartbeat. Finally, in Indecent Proposal, Harrison has his story. Don’t be misled, the title is a take on a statement Harrison makes not a statement on his integrity.

Again, Molly O’Keefe has written an outstanding contemporary novel with sympathetic and lovable characters. Really, who would want Harrison’s mother or Ryan’s brother? This story is harsh urban Yankee meets Old South money, in a totally unbelievable circumstance that becomes truly believable. This remarkable book parallels in time to Never Been Kissed. Loved that! However, it is not necessary to have read Never Been Kissed, though I highly recommend his sister’s story with this one.

Loved Ryan. She is just what Harrison needed to shake up his structured, perfectly crafted life! Harrison did need to live his life and not just live to undo his father’s misuse of power and money. Ryan forces him to do that. I find this food for thought. In my own Southern state, we have had our share of “Ted Montgomerys”. I now wonder about the price that their children have had to pay. I never really thought about it before this novel.

This author has perfected her craft as showcased in Indecent Proposal. Her characters learn valuable lessons while the stories are wonderfully poignant. Molly O’Keefe creates stories captures your imagination. For a few hours, you lose yourself in the characters’ dilemmas of life.
