These two authors have a very special way of developing realistic characters who live within you as you read the book.

The concepts dealt with in the book are something we all need to hear - humility, loving God with all our heart and soul, putting Him first in our lives... and more.

This will be the final book of the series, but I cannot wait to see what comes next from Dan Walsh and Gary Smalley both.

Infertility has reared its ugly head and another marriage is torn by this painful issue. Having walked that road myself, I have to say that Dan Walsh and Gary Smalley really brought life to a topic that can be heartrending. The Desire, may be my favorite of the Restoration Series; it really was hard to put down after I started reading it. Early on, there was a situation that seemed the perfect remedy for Michele and Allan's lack of children but then there was that underlying thread of "God's got a better idea". We were guided on a path of education concerning mission trips and the painful life that many orphans endure daily as the dilemma was solved.

The reader is introduced to Addis Ababa and Korah, where the sights, smells and poverty shown within this story make you feel as if you were there. This book also reminds you to be grateful for what you have, living in America. Ayana stole my heart right away and she was beautifully depicted. I could barely read for the tears pouring out of my eyes as we were acquainted with her grandmother and the sacrificial heart that was within her.

One of my favorite parts of the Restoration Series is the interview that Dan does with Gary at the end of the books. It seems I always end up buying one of Gary's older books and this time it was Guarding Your Child's Heart. I was intrigued with the things that Michelle was learning about a new way to live and love and I was pretty sure that it had something to do with a teaching from one of Gary's nonfiction books.

I'm not sure if The Desire was the best title for the book, but in looking over the other titles in the series, I am seeing how it fits. Don't let the picture on the book front confuse you, this is not "chick lit." It is a story told superbly by master storytellers.

I'm so glad there is one more book in this series to look forward do. It has been a wonderful journey so far. Thanks Dan and Gary. Y'all rock!

Believe it or not, this is the first book by Dan Walsh that I have read.

I know it’s pretty hard to believe… that there is a reader of Inspirational fiction that has yet to read one of these AMAZING books but that’s me…

Or it was anyway…

I’m not in that category anymore. LOL!

And what a place to start… WOW!

The opening sentence…

“Michelle didn’t know why she’d come here, why she tortured herself this way.”

I mean… does it get any more intriguing than that! Right there, you have a perfect formula for hooking your reader.

You have raw emotion, you have mystery, you have intrigue…

And is there a person on the planet who could put the book down before they find out who Michelle is and why she torments herself by doing… whatever it is she’s doing at the opening of this story (NO! I’m not telling. Trust me – you WANT to read this book).

Don’t worry about not having read any of the other books in this series, if you’re starting here with book 3 – although I’m sure you will want to read them all AFTER you read this one! I know I do!

I will warn you. I’m a Mercy (spiritual gift) so I tend to bawl over just about anything so it’s probably not a really good idea to judge your probability of needing an entire box of tissues just to get through this book… usually.

With this book, I think more people than think they would, are going to need just that.

“The Desire” by Dan Walsh and Gary Smalley explores some pretty tough emotions and it doesn’t really matter if you’ve been there or not, they make the emotions so real, you feel like you have.

READ IT!

"The Desire" by Dan Walsh & Gary Smalley isn't a book I'd normally read. I don't read a lot of fiction, but something drew me to this particular book. I'm very glad it did because I couldn't put it down.

The premise of the book is that Allan and Michele have been trying to have a baby for over a year and it's been really hard on them emotionally. Michele wants to further researching infertility treatments while Allan doesn't even realize how big of a problem this is and chooses to focus his time (and funds) on mission trips in Africa.

The plot of this book intertwines other plots from the Restoration series by Walsh and Smalley. The good news is that you needn't read the other books to read this book; it stands on its own well enough. I hadn't read the other books either, but I'd really like to sometime.

This book is not just about Michele and Allan but about a girl named Christina who is pregnant out of wedlock and has a decision to make. It's an interesting look into the life of a woman going through that process; most of the time we hear about the adoptive parents or even adoptive child's perspective but I've never read anything from the biological mother's view.

"The Desire" is just a beautiful look at Christ's love for us all, how God's plan can really veer away from our plans, and how we need to react to such plans. The only part I really disliked about this was that the Christians in the book lived in an affluent community, which I think perpetuates the idea (especially outside America) that Christians are all really rich. Not all are.
