More About the Author

When I'm being forced up a mountainside with a backpack weighing me down, terrified of meeting a bear around the next corner or when I'm being hauled out into choppy waters holding on for dear life afraid I'll be pitched over at any moment, I wonder why, exactly, I married my crazy husband. Then again having an adventurous if somewhat insane spouse has been the best muse a writer could ask for. My debut novel, Breathe - a YA contemporary romance, was released May,17, 2011 by Wild Child Publishing and it's thanks to one of those spur of the moment boat trips that sparked the idea for Breathe. I've been writing all my life but it wasn't until I tried my hand at YA fiction that I found my groove. Apparently I never really grew up, which may explain my marriage to a dare devil. I've recently signed the contract on my first YA paranormal titled Existence to be released this Christmas. On October 21, I will be releasing The Vincent Boys - an older YA romance with an edgier feel. It will be available in digital format on Amazon and Barnes and Noble. You can find me on Twitter @abbiglines I have a slight addiction....

It feels like Abbi Glines is using the same basic story line for all her books. The absolutely gorgeous virgin/inexperianced girl with a messed up/hard life falls for an absolutely gorgeous badboy/player who is extremely protective and controlling. As soon as they hook up sexually, sometimes WITHOUT protection (which seems like they are ecstasy with how the girl can get off with one thrust or touch). They also never address that a guy that has slept with that many girls probably has some STD's or has gotten some pregnant. Then they fall undenianly in love/lust/addiction to each other. Something insane happens, but then they get back together/ or in this case will eventually in the next book I am sure. Even though there is someone else better suited for them, they fall for the ahole guy, instead of the healthy, sweet unselfish ones that are just as crazy about the girl. Then the author just changes the names, the location and basic details of the main characters.

I don't know, I like her books, but it really is this basic formula. Why does the girl have to be a virgin/innocent . Why does the guy have to be a huge player. Why do they have to have sex before they realize they are in love. Why do they have to become addicted to eachother. Why are the side characters so minimal that you barely remember their names because the world revolves around the two main characters. Why does the girl have to be dominated by the alphaish guy. I dunno if it's Twilight and 50 shades, but a lot of authors are using this formula for their books now. Its getting boring and predictable. If you want to read something different check out the "The Fault in our Stars".

I don't want to write this review. It has to do with the fact that I have always enjoyed Abbi Glines' books. Even if I they are all very similar they have the entertaining factor that keeps me reading them.

I had so many expectations for it, the premise sounded wonderful, the cover is gorgeous. Unfortunately, to me, it just didn't deliver.

Why?

The love between Blaire and Rush was...rushed (pun intended). It was shallow, too intense, too soon without any plausible explanation other that "omigod he's so hot I want him".

I didn't love Rush. He reminded me of every other male character in her books (apart from Marcus).
Poor playboy with tortured soul trying to stay away from beautiful, virginal Blaire, except not. For how much he claimed he tried to stay away from her, he kept leading her on all the time, acting all possessive and confusing her and it annoyed me to no end.
Another thing, Blaire witnessing Rush having sex, not once, but twice...it's a romance killer. I wish authors didn't do this. Yes, he can have sex with other girls. No, she doesn't have to see it.

It is so slow that nothing except sex and her working happens for the majority of the book. The last (maybe) 20% was of faster pace when everything blows up but it wasn't enough to save the book for me.

The conflict? So easily avoided if the hero wasn't a selfish jerk. She is right, everything they had (as blown out of proportion as it may have been) was a big, fat lie. I can't love a hero like that.

Now, let's make it clear that I'm not saying the book is bad. I loved the way it was written and I kind of loved Blaire. I did read the whole book, after all. It just didn't cater to my personal tastes. I do recommend everyone read it, though. I just had to get this review off my chest.

Ok, I am sorry to say but I sincerely cannot understand how this book got so high rating? I have all the respect for other people's opinion, but let me explain the effect of this writing over myself:
Firstly, the heroine is so damn perfect that it's totally unrealistic! She walks around being nice and unassuming and thanking everybody for the smallest signs of what should be minimum decency! From what world exactly would a 19 year old girl come and be happy about sleeping in a closed under the stairs in a house where she should be received as a family relative, however distant and unloved! Instead she is treated as a servant, continuously humiliated by Rush and his friends and sister. She is 19, coming out of a small town, obviously hard working, had a really difficult couple of years seeing her mother die of cancer and none of this qualifies for a minimum support from the great hero?? The fact Blaire is so happy with becoming his lover (while continuing to serve his friends at the country club and being chased around by his friends) and is never pushing for a clear discussion to hear what is the secret everybody is aware of made me dislike her even more and consider this further unrealistic.
Second, Rush is the most despicable male hero I had the misfortune to read about! What exactly did he have to overcome in his life to behave like he is doing? Compare to Blaire he is just one more spoiled rich boy and he acts like a drama queen!
