Review

"I devoured this book in one sitting, and I plan on doing it again. It was that hot!
Raine Miller has discovered the perfect blend of romance, drama and sexy." (Colleen Hoover, New York Times bestselling author)

From the Author

The Blackstone Affair is a series, meant to be read in order.  The books are not stand-alone.  Reading order:
Book 1 = Naked
Book 2 = All In
Book 3 = Eyes Wide Open

More About the Author

A New York Times bestselling author who has been reading romance novels since she picked up that first Barbara Cartland book at the tender age of thirteen. And it's a safe bet she'll never stop, because now she writes them too. Granted, Raine's stories are edgy enough to turn Ms. Cartland in her grave, but to her way of thinking a hot, sexy hero never goes out of fashion. Ever! Writing books pretty much fills her days now and she's always busy. Raine has a prince of a husband, and two brilliant sons to pull her back into the real world if the writing takes her too far away. She loves to hear from readers and to chat about the characters in her books. You can connect with her on Facebook or visit her blog at www.RaineMiller.com to find out what she's working on now.

More about Raine Miller

Q. What inspires your writing?
A. So many things. Art, a photograph, a portrait, poetry, movies, songs, books, historical events, notable people, a friend, a colleague...and the list is never-ending.

Q. Why do you like to write historicals?
A. I guess mostly because of the nostalgia of the past. It is an escape for me to think in a world where communication existed only in real face-to-face time or in a letter. Social graces were not only an art, but a survival skill. Interaction with another person was downright intimate in a way it can never be today. I also find great joy in writing my stories. It is as entertaining to write them as it is to be lost in a book you can't set down.

Q. What is your favorite quote?
A. "I almost wish we were butterflies, and liv'd but three summer days. Three such days with you I could fill with more delight than fifty common years could ever contain." JOHN KEATS...1819 (sigh) Need I elaborate?

Q. How do you plot out your stories?
A. I picture the scenes like a movie in my mind. I go on long walks with my ipod and just process through storylines in my head. As soon as I get home I run up to my computer and jot down my ideas so I don't forget. I've worked through many a troublesome plotline while on a walk. Solitude works for me.

Q. Who are some of your favorite authors?
A. JR Ward, Megan Hart, Elizabeth Hoyt, Ken Follett, John Grisham, Charles Dickens, Jane Austen, John Keats, Robert Herrick...What I wouldn't give to have all of those writers together in a room.

Q. What has becoming a writer taught you?
A. A healthy respect. That's: R - E - S - P - E - C - T! I am humbled by anyone who wrote before the word processor and Google were invented. There's no denying that writing is hard work, but to imagine how Jane Austen wrote Pride and Prejudice with a feather quill pen makes my brain hurt.

Q. Any pearls of wisdom for aspiring writers?
A. Write what you love--your voice will come through. Write every day--your creative mind needs exercise. Never give up your dream of becoming a writer. Everyone loves a good story and if you can write one, people will always want to read it.

It was very well written, the character development was spot on, and the love story was swoon-worthy.

It has a great plot with mystery and intrigue, a great love story and hot steamy sex.

I will probably have people throwing stuff at me or hating my comment because they love 50...but doggone it, Naked seriously put that book to shame. This book does not have any repetive scenes and the directive taken with Raine Miller with her characters is amazing. There was no room for doubt on how each character looked, felt...drove me insane with desire (I'm talking about Ethan Blackstone of course). Brynne is not a weakling by any means. Though she has a troubled past, she is strong and has a backbone. I love that as I hate weak females in romance novels. Ethan is demanding and a little overbearing but it works for him. I liked it..a lot. I cannot wait for the next installment to this series. This author really rose above and beyond her other books, and I truly loved the historical romances.

Again, Raine...once again you blew me away! I scared my poor children screaming at my Kindle because I am dying for more. Dying, Raine!!!

Get this book, fall in love with Ethan and thank me later when you agree it is fantastic! I will leave this review with one final statement... Christian who?

You know how when you take a picture of a picture, the quality diminishes? The same is true with stories. When you start with an already flawed book, (Fifty Shades of Grey: Book One of the Fifty Shades Trilogy) and your goal is merely to copy instead of transcend, then you're going to end up with a pile of poo.

Naked (The Blackstone Affair, Part 1) is a hollow, shallow, formulaic repeat of the FSOG and Bared to You: A Crossfire Novel juggernauts. Where those two stories were flawed, but thrilling and captivating, Naked is simply mechanical. Even the "hot" scenes, while filled with the same lurid and explicit language, felt flat and routine. The love interest, Ethan, was basically a cardboard cutout that growled, screwed, and said "you're mine" repeatedly. The protagonist, Brynne, somehow had even less personality than Ana/Bella from FSOG/Twilight. If you thought that wasn't possible, allowed me to share a few points:

1. Brynne's only friends are a distant, rarely heard from roommate and a caricature of a gay man, whose only role in life is apparently to fawn over Brynne and take her naked portraits. He's basically her handmaiden with a penis.

2. Within one WEEK, Brynne has moved in with Ethan, professed that she belongs to him, and agreed to be chauffered by his private driver. She does this with minimal obligatory hand-wringing, insisting that it's because she "feels safe" with him. Which brings us to:

3. The DARK SHADOWY PAST.

Yeah exactly, UM WOW!!! Well first of all Raine Miller has made a jump from historical romance to contemporary and what a nice jump she made. I read this book in one sitting. I just could not put it down and then when it ended I kept trying to turn the page, saying to myself "NO it can't be done yet I want more". Ethan Blackstone had me drooling from the start. Brynne is an amazingly strong character, loved her independence and I want to know her secrets. Ms. Miller wove a VERY ENTICING Part 1 and now I am on pins and needles waiting for Part 2.

LOVE THIS BOOK!!!! Bought this book a while ago should have reviewed earlier! It is one of the book that stays on my ipad for days when I want to re-read a old favourites.... like Fifty Shades, the Crossfire Series - Sylvia Day, Rock Chick Regret/Knight - Kirsten Ashley. YES... Raine Miller and NAKED fits right in here!
RM is able to create depth with both Ethan and Brynne as individuals and as a couple very quickly. This Novella is HOT! So look out significant others!
LOVED the ending...... even though it is causing me pain to wait for ALL IN.
Well Done Raine!

The book was too short for me to enjoy and get invested in the characters. There was no build up. This is part 1 of 3 and maybe that is why it is short but it left a lot out. The sex is jumped into right away and after an incident at his apartment which alludes to some painful past for Brynne, they decide to take it slow...... But don't. Everything is done super fast: He wants her, he easily gets her, he demands that she is his and she submits. Brynne voices her reservations every so often but of course with him she can't control herself. Brynne's therapist practically pushes her towards this new 'relationship' and actually wants to meet him at the end of the session with Brynne having seen Ethan only 1 or 2 times prior. It is from Brynne's POV so you know a little more about her (barely) but Ethan was a little bit of a contradiction. He acted needed by begging one moment to demanding the next.

To be honest this book is not my cup of tea. Why did I read it? It was recommended by a friend. I did not like FSOG but mentioned to her I do like books with dominate men but not bdsm. It's great to have an all consuming passion with a strong male. I read plenty of bodice rippers. However, the bedroom talk in this book is not a turn on for me. He talks about how he is going to f--k her and her panties immediately get wet. Just because he said the f word for saying sex to make it seem dirty does not get me hot. It's not that I'm necessarily offended by the word or the way he talked. I just think it is kind of ridiculous and can't find myself wanting that in my relationship. I'm not crazy about the whole stalker type or Tarzan type either. You mine. I guess this is popular in books right now something called "mommy porn" but like I said not for me. That being said I tried to keep my personal taste out of my rating otherwise it would have been less then 1 star. The book just moved too fast for any real character development.
