“A romance to remember.”—Joyfully Reviewed

“Passionate, inventive…Burton offers plenty of emotion and conflict.”—USA Today Happy Ever After Blog

About the Author

Jaci Burton is a USA Today and New York Times bestselling author who lives in Oklahoma with her husband and dogs. She has three grown children who are all scattered around the country having lives of their own. A lover of sports, Jaci can often tell what season it is by what sport is being played. She watches entirely too much television, including an unhealthy amount of reality TV. When she isn’t on deadline, which is often, Jaci can be found at her local casino, trying to become a millionaire (so far, no luck). She’s a total romantic and loves a story with a happily ever after, which you’ll find in all her books.

Jaci Burton is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling, award-winning author of over 60 books. She loves gardening, sports, casinos and getting lost in a great book. She's a total romantic and longs for the happily ever after in every story, which you'll find in all her books.

I read this book in one day and cant wait to read the others.

We get a bit of action/drama at the very end of the book, but that felt too easy and contrived.

This book had fun realistic characters and a great story line.

I love a cop hero and a wounded heroine, but Luke and Emma didn't light up the page for me. I didn't feel a strong connection between them, and their sexual chemistry definitely could have been a lot deeper.

Luke is likeable, Emma is sweet, but they felt so bland together. They fall in love, and it was nice, but it wasn't that truly romantic feeling I like to get when my two leads fall in love. When my h/H fall in love, I want to fall in love along with them. Luke and Emma's romance didn't feel as strong as it could have felt. A couple of sex scenes, but I wanted more emotion and need in those scenes. They were just okay.

The story seemed a non-story, and overall, it was pretty bland, too. Nothing really happens. We get a bit of action/drama at the very end of the book, but that felt too easy and contrived. A lot more could have been done there story-wise.

Hope Flames was only an okay read for me, bland and sort of meh. It's not a bad read, but I wasn't feeling the story or the romance all the way. Not bad, but not that great.

I really adore Jaci Burton's books. They're always fun and sexy and just a good time. She can write some make you squirm erotic romances that's for sure. But I'd never read a straight contemporary from her before and damn if she didn't do a fantastic job with that too. Hope Flames had it all. Sexy times, a bit of danger/mystery, an awesome heroine and a sexy cop of a hero who just played nicely off each other, great romance and a pretty darling cast of furry characters to round it all out.

I really enjoyed both Emma and Luke. They're interesting characters, don't always understand each other which leads to some excellent moments and are really dedicated to what they do--he loves his work in law enforcement and she's passionate about helping the furry community members. I really liked that they were pretty normal/down to earth people. There's nothing too fancy or wild about them. They're just...them. Which to me, I don't know, made me comfortable with them and made me want to spend more time with them. I also kinda liked seeing them on the job. And, again, nothing glamorous...just them.

Luke has some sexy going on and damn but I am a sucker for a guy that loves animals. They're both a little damaged by their past relationships so it was really wonderful seeing them work past that and find something together. It was pretty fun watching them quip with each other and dance around their attraction and when things finally get steamy they really work nicely together.

One thing I wouldn't normally point out but that was just really nicely done so I wanted to say something and give Burton kudos for was Emma's job.

I agree with other reviewers, this book is: boring, contrived, and redundant in explaining backstory/histories and character motivations.

Really slow going for this reader. Too much angst for characters in their 30s. These characters are lamenting the mistakes they made between the ages of 22 and 26 and writing off their future happiness based on these failures? Despite the fact that both H/H currently have rock solid professional jobs, own their homes, and have close family networks? Seriously?

This book is great for the small town, middle-aged, church going, ladies that will be all atwitter about reading a little steam in the bedroom (the sex scenes are pedestrian), but who will enjoy the small town setting for romance.

This may also be a book for someone who thinks that if you have made past and very EARLY in life relationship mistakes, there's no hope for you.

This is my first book by Jaci Burton. She often shows up on my Amazon recommendations but I've always been leery about ordering her books. I found this one at the grocery store and thought, here was my chance. I should have left this book at the check-out counter.

I tried to finish this book, I really did. And I couldn't. There's only so much I care to read about people going on dates and repeating similar scenes. I ended up skimming the last three-quarters. The story needed something more.

Not bad, I feel that too much time was spent on the "not a relationship" aspect between Emma and Luke, and not enough time on the burglaries. I think the burglaries could have added a bit more suspense to the story. Even the reappearance of Emma's ex seemed like an afterthought to the story. So much potential that just wasn't realized.

I had never read this author before, and only picked it up after spotting it in the store because I liked the cover, which is something I usually do not do. I enjoyed the story of Luke, Luke's brother, Emma and Emma's crazy friends and vet assistants. The story is about Luke and Emma getting over past baggage to give each other a chance at love. Throw in fun dogs for entertainment and a psycho ex-boyfriend for suspense and the story is a nice read. I am glad I have discovered this author and now I am reading her Play-By-Play novels.
