About the Author
Maya Banks is the #1 New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of contemporary and historical romances. She lives in Texas with her husband and three children.
Maya Banks lives in Texas with her husband, three children and assortment of pets. When she's not writing, she can be found hunting, fishing or playing poker.
I never write reviews for books because I understand that everyone has different preferences and opinions on books, but I had to write one for this. Let me start by saying that I usually love everything Maya Banks. She does a great job drawing you in and getting you to love the characters. In her poly-amorous books, she usually does a good job of making you feel like the relationship is natural for the people involved and believable.
Possible spoilers: In this book, I felt the dialogue was very cheesy, boring, and repetitive. The characters were also cheesy, boring, and repetitive. I was never drawn in. The story intrigued me because I love a good romance with hot alphas and vulnerable heroines. But in this book, the alphas weren't alpha; instead, they were constantly fawning over the h with ridiculous, cheesy lines. And I mean constantly...no alpha dialogue, just sweet talk for the h. It's fun (and hot) when alphas do the sweet talk thing, but not when their "alphaness" is diminished by them only doing the sweet talk thing. (I hope that makes sense) There needs to be a balance. The heroine was vulnerable, yes, but just decided to live with the Heroes (supposedly two large, intimidating men) without question for over 6 mo without wondering if they had ulterior motives or even really being threatened by them. I know this is a fantasy book, I get it, but I felt this book lacked what it needed to feel the least bit natural or believable.
I struggled to finish the book. I don't understand all of the reviews stating that the book was "amazing!". I feel completely duped. Who wrote these reviews?! Even if you liked the book, it could never be considered "amazing!".Read more ›

Ok. I'm going to start this by saying I LOVE Maya Banks. She is one of the few authors that is a must buy for me. I always read the books as soon as they come out, and they pretty much all go into my "favorites" folder. This story had pretty much everything I expect from Ms. Banks. Great alpha males, heroines in distress, great action suspense, spicy love scenes. At first the heroine seemed a little whiney-- but after I thought about it, I can understand her actions because of EVERYTHING she went through. I also thought he whole building of the relationship was interesting. It wasn't a preconceived notion amongst any participant. I was thoroughly enjoying it....and then I reached the end. I was not expecting a cliffhanger. I HATE cliffhangers. I was aware this book was the beginning of a series, but I did not realize the following books would be about unresolved issues with the main characters from this story. I gave it 4 stars--well because in my opinion, Maya Banks can really write an entertains story, but I was disappointed in the ending.

Cade and Merrick are best friends, business partners, and room mates. One night as they are called in to answer a call about a break in at one of their Security client's businesses, they find more than they bargained for. They find a woman, lost, alone, hiding, with no memory except that she knows she is in danger and was being hunted. She finds two protectors, well they actually found her. And two friends gradually find themselves attracted to the same woman, and one woman is drawn to two men.
I adored both Cade and Merrick. Merrick is an MMA fighter training for the championship and part-time Security company owner. He is big, strong, intimidating, but has a heart of gold. He is so gentle, patient, and sweet with her. Cade runs their security company. He is equally alpha, but also has a soft side. They are both fiercely protective of her and want to keep her near at all times.
Elle(she remembers her name, but just snippets of other events), is fragile. She is fearful due to her past, feels beholden to these two men, unworthy, and considers herself to be a hot mess. She has a hard time seeing what they see in her.
"I don't know what happened to send you and Cade to me, but I thank God for you both every day." "Ever consider that we thank him for giving us you?"~Merrick
The men have been long time best friends and close to brothers. Even though they both have feelings gradually developing, they also both want each other to be happy and they Elle to be happy and safe. So they come up with an unorthodox solution and embark on an unconventional relationship tentatively. They were so close and they shared well without jealousy really. And she loved them both equally.Read more ›

I'm a huge fan of Maya Banks's Highlander (series) & Sweet (series) & KGI (series) & even Colters (series) but what she's writing lately just doesn't have the same punch. It feels as though she's just churning them out left and right - there's little if any of the typical Maya Banks artistry to the writing. I want something that stays with me and this one, I finished it yesterday, I don't even think I could give you an overview that would compel you to read it. I'm eagerly awaiting the next Highlander (Taliesin's story) but unless she writes more in one of those series, that I truly enjoyed, I feel like skipping the other work. There've just been too many disappointing reads, outside those respective series, for me to put more time into them.
