If you love characters with attitude you need to read Brenda Jackson's books A Brother's Honor and A Man's Promise. They are the first two books in her Granger Series.
I have no intention of spoiling your reading pleasure by telling you the stories told in each of the books. I hate reviews that give me no reason to read a book because the reviewer has already told me all the important parts.
It is hard to determine if the books are suspenseful romance novels or romantic suspense novels. There is plenty of both in each of the books. The characters are well developed and engaging. I love beautiful people. The plot is intriguing with lots of possible suspects and the reader knows things the characters don't.
Ms. Jackson jumps into different heads as she tells this story, but she carefully sets them in separate scenes so that you know you are reading another character's point of view. It can occasionally be distracting, but not enough to be frustrating.
One warning, there is a lot of hot sex in her books. So if that's not your cup of tea, then don't read the books. My only complaint is that it will probably be a year before the third book in the series is released.

This highly anticipated sequel by Brenda Jackson gets more complex as the characters are revealed one by one. Scandal is everywhere right from the beginning revelations and secrets are unveiled. Hold on tight to your magnifying glass because you will need it to find the hidden clues as to who murdered Sylvia Granger. There's someone scheming behind the scenes making sure a man remains in jail for the murder of his wife - which he did not commit. (Known fact not a Spoiler)
In this follow up story, you will be exposed to restored, reawakened, and great expectations of love, which are key components in this story. In addition a disclosure of father's betrayal, mothers' betrayal and secrets, brotherly love, and promises, promises, and more promises - the title lives up to its name. The men in this story all promised something to one another or to a woman. Now who will be honorable enough to keep their promise?
Caden Granger is centered stage in this scandalous plot. All he wants to do is play his saxophone and make beautiful music with his band. Love or not love his first love, Shiloh Timmons. Instead he is called back to his childhood home after the grandfather who raised him has a heart attack. He and his other two brothers (Jace and Dalton) make a promise to their grandfather they that will take control over their family business and help get their father out of jail.
One thing for sure in this book, Mrs. Jackson writes beautiful scenes where the men slowly erase some of the pain their woman endured in their life - one by one each man creates beautiful memories for their lady interest. Even Caden redeems himself.

This is the second of a three book series about three brothers whose lives were forever changed when their father was wrongly convicted of their mother's murder. When their father is sentenced to 30 years the brothers are raised by their paternal grandfather who calls them home when he suffers a major heart attack. The brothers make a deathbed promise to their Grandfather to save the family company and prove their father's innocence. Middle brother Caden takes center stage in A Man's Promise when he is forced to face the one true love of his life whom he believes betrayed him in the most hurtful way. Ms. Jackson weaves a beautiful story of rekindled love and mystery. The clues as to who is trying to ruin Granger Aeronautics and why Sheppard Granger is still serving time for a crime he did not committ take several twists and turns. A wonderful bonus are the blossoming love stories of other key characters and the hillarious setup of youngest brother Dalton's love story. Do yourself a huge favor and read A Brothers Honor to get ready for A Man's Promise. I can't wait for Book 3 ~~ it is gonna be a blockbuster!
