#1 NYT and USA TODAY bestselling author Lisa Jackson started writing after her sister read an article in TIME Magazine in 1981 about how young mothers were making money writing romance novels. Both Lisa and her sister, Nancy Bush, began their writing careers right then, and lo, these many years later Lisa has published seventy-five plus novels and has no plans to slow down anytime soon.
Lisa Jackson's newest book Born to Die was just as good as I had could have imagined. The main character Kacey was so fascinating and had so much depth and character to her. I really felt compelled to her and wanted to see her kept safe. I found myself getting lost in the story and finished it all in a weekend. I have always enjoyed the town of Grizzly Falls in Montana and all of it's unique characters. What a great idea to have this series of books happen in such a small and remote town. It makes it that much more bone chilling to think it could happen anywhere and to anyone. I've always been a fan of the Alvarez/ Pescoli team. What a dynamic female duo! After the last book Chosen to Die I almost feel like I'm right along the two ladies helping to solve all these cases! With the body count rising I never knew who to suspect and who was innocent. Lisa Jackson did it again! The To Die Series has fast become my favorite set of books!

Born To Die (Selena Alvarez/Regan Pescoli Novels) was a fairly gripping mystery. Overall, I thought it was a little slow-paced in plot development. Still, characters and events were interesting enough to hold my attention; I never experienced a reluctance to read on. There were some nice, original wrinkles in the basic premise. Unlike many serial-killer books, the author spares us from too much gory detail. I recommend "Born to Die" to those who enjoy the genre.
I had a few specific problems with the plot. There were two points at which the suspension of reality broke for me. I'm somewhat sensitive to circumstances where a character makes a poor judgment call (most often a failure to bring in help from the authorities or at least another character), and this arose in minor form twice. Most of the other difficulties I encountered were minor, except for the moderate-sized difficulties discussed below.

Extra warning! I would have been very annoyed if I had read the following comments before I read the book. So, stop here if you haven't read it, unless you can tolerate strong hints about whodunnit and specific plot events!!
The reader is kept in the dark about some possible perpetrators for much of the book. When they are finally introduced, it is fairly obvious that one of a very small number of people committed the crimes.
Also, in resolving the search for the missing boy, things seemed a little hasty and discontinuous.
Finally, there was a large dose of serendipity in the crisis scene near the end of the book, when the boy's missing mother shows up out of the blue, and just in the nick of time.

At first I hesitated about buying this book because of a few of the reviews but finally purchased it and I am so glad I did. It was one of her best books and I have read them all. It was hard to put down. If you like Lisa Jackson, don't hesitate to read this book.

Dr. Acacia "Kasey" Lambert now lives a very quiet life in rural Grizzly Falls, Montana where she runs her medical practice by day and when not traveling to visit her eccentric mother at her Rolling Hills "independent living" unit in nearby Helena, a solitary life by night. However, very soon her life is going to change, the past is closer than she knows. The passing comment from her receptionist "your twin is dead", is just the beginning. An apparent suicide of a B actress in far away Los Angeles, a tragic fall down a snowy slope all seem to have ties to Kasey. The Grizzly Falls detective team of Selena Alvarez and Regan Pescoli are trying tie up a few "loose ends" but find themselves looking at suspects and sexy rancher and ex-Army Ranger, Trace O'Halleran is in their sights. An unfortunate accident has Trace O'Halleran in Kasey's sights too. Trace however, is wondering if he has more to worry about than problems with the police, something about Kasey rings familiar. Someone with bad intentions has them all in his sights, too and he has an agenda that must be adhered to at all costs. An intricate plan has been in place for quite some time, patience and the careful covering his tracks up until now has kept him and his deeds off the radar but will his obsession for his main target be his downfall? Lisa Jackson's third installment of her Alvarez/Pescoli detective series is an action packed page-turner that will leave you looking in the mirror. I hope that you will not see a resemblance as that would be deadly, as his victims were "born to die".

Lisa Jackson gets top marks for this one for a creative and intriguing storyline. However, the "coincidences" were just too numerous for me -- I found the plot so unbelievable that it was hard to read at times. The first 3/4 of the book was fascinating, but the last 1/4 was a disappointment. The resolution was unusual, but also unsatisfying. I've found Lisa Jackson's books to be "hit or miss" and this one was about average for her.
If you are a LJ fan, its worth a read. If you are not familiar with this author, pick another one of her books to start with -- this is not her best work.

I generally liked the book; but as a small Montana town native am disappointed in how Ms. Jackson obviously did no research. No small Montana town that I have ever heard of has more than one medical clinic -- they are lucky to have one doctor let alone several. None would have a crime lab and absolutely none would have more than one hospital. I haven't lived in Montana for several years but I would guess that the only crime lab in the state is in Helena. If the body of a teacher had been found in any small Montana town, everyone would know who it was instantly -- no Jane Doe. And believe me they would not have two homicide detectives (more like the elected sheriff and maybe a deputy)
At one time she refers to the same weapon as a rifle and as a shotgun, which is it?
On the whole it was a good story. I would have found it much more blievable if she had set the entire novel in Missoula rather than the fictional small town of Grizzly Falls. There is no way all of her characters could have lived in an acutal small Montana town. I grew up in small town Montana and went to college in Missoula. Please do more research next time.
