Dr. Victoria Peres is an forensic anthropologist working for the Portland Medical Examiner. She is reserved, serious, and rather intimidating. She prefers to keep people at arm's length. But things change abruptly when Dr. Seth Rutledge applies to be the new medical examiner. Seth and Tori have a history. They fell in love in college but split up when Seth decided that he had to marry the mother of his child despite the fact that she broke up with him and didn't tell him the child was his until her current relationship broke up. They have been apart for eighteen years and have both built lives and careers.

Seth and Tori get involved in a case that mirrors a case from 50 years in the past. Young women with long dark hair are found dead posed in a circle in the forest. In the first case, three of the six young woman had never been identified. Luckily, the bones had been kept and now Tori is trying to identify them. This time one of her young neighbor's friends is one of the victims. And Tori finds strange connections to her life too. She was adopted, raised by loving parents, but has questions about her birth parents. It looks like the first victims had a connection to the same church that was instrumental in her adoption.

The parts of the story told from the viewpoint of the villains were particularly chilling. It took me a while to realize that we were hearing from two different villains. I liked all the connections that were revealed between Tori's young friend and the cult that was responsible for the various murders.

I liked that very realistic relationship between Tori and Seth. I liked that Tori was hesitant to initiate a new relationship with the man who broke her heart. I also liked Seth's persistence in convincing Tori that this time nothing could come between them.

The story was thrilling, chilling, and romantic. I recommend it to all fans of romantic suspense.

Alone book four in the Bone Secrets series proves once more why Kendra Eliot she has become a favorite must have author. The book starts off with a bang as six teenage girls are found laid out in a circle, five of those girls are dead and the sixth is still barely alive. Victoria Peres a forensic anthropologist is called in as the case is a mirror image of another decades old murder. Victoria must try to figure out clues from old bones left from the previous case. She must also deal with the return of her first love Seth. Victoria and Seth have a history, they fell in love in college but when Seth discovers a child is his a nasty breakup ensues. As threats begin to target Victoria, the pair find themselves working together to solve the murders all while rekindling old feelings.
Kendra Elliot is fast becoming a personal favorite. Her Bones Secret novels are always filled with the right blend of romance and suspense. Alone is no exception, it has great suspense, great romance and a fantastic cast of characters all with their own stories to be told. Alone can be read as a standalone but I would highly suggest reading the series as a whole; several of Eliot’s previous characters do make their appearance.

With each entry into her "Bone Secrets" series, author Kendra Elliot draws us deeper and deeper into the world of those who work in forensic science and law enforcement in its various entities. Her heroines are whip-smart, capable, daring, and all-too-human. Women who write romantic suspense and crime thrillers rock the house, and Kendra Elliot is right at the top. In "ALONE",Victoria Peres, a forensic anthropologist whom we have met in other "Bone Secrets" books, now gets her own story--and what a story it is. Called upon to examine an eerie crime scene--the bodies of six young girls, dressed in white and arranged in a circle--Victoria will discover haunting similarities to another, decades-old crime case. Further disturbing her equilibrium is the fact that the college sweetheart who left her heart in broken pieces is now coming on board to replace the retiring local medical examiner. Seth Rutledge not only wants to make amends to Victoria, he wants her back in his life. Victoria and Seth must work together to stop a murderous fiend who is just as determined to stop them. If the two of them survive working on the case, is there hope for a new life together? Will Victoria overcome the traumatic issues of her own past, and reach out for a happy future with Seth? I highly recommend the "Bone Secrets" series from author Kendra Elliot for lovers of spine-tingling romantic suspense and fascinating forensic science. Treat yourself to the whole series--you'll be glad you did.

Kendra Elliott does it again. The bone secrets series is one of my favorites. This is a very good book, action packed and suspenseful. The characters reach out and grab your interest, once you start reading, you don't want to put it down. I enjoyed the insight into Victoria and loved the relationship with Seth.
