Ash McKenzie broke hearts when left Copper Creek and he knows that just as soon as he uncovers the truth about his father’s death, he’ll be leaving town again. That is until he runs into Brenna Crane and realizes that a stampede couldn’t make him break her heart again… now he’ll just have to convince her of that in this captivating contemporary western romance.

This fast paced and smooth flowing plot keeps readers shivering in anticipation with suspense and romance. The author brings the story to life with well written scenes and details that capture the imagination, while the well orchestrated suspense and action adds excitement and drama. The characters are strong, compelling and invite the reader to visit Copper Creek and get to know them.

Brenna tried to move on with her life but the truth is she never stopped hoping that Ash would take her away from her troubled past and now that he’s back she knows better than to trust him but the attraction stills burns hot. The reader can’t help but get caught up in their story as Ash and Brenna tries to work out their relationship as well as find Ash’s father’s killer.

Escalating danger builds anticipation and excitement throughout the story as the it seems someone has it out for Brenna and I must say that was a bit of a surprising and exciting situation. The story has some side plots that adds depth and spice to the story and the captivating characters ensure that the reader want to know all their stories as well. I was completely caught up in the story from the beginning and I am looking forward to reading Whit’s and Griff’s story… hmmm… I can’t make up my mind which brother I like best.

The Maverick of Copper Creek by R. C. Ryan is such a great book. It has a little bit of everything: mystery, murder, friendship, romance and heat.

Ash MacKenzie left home almost a decade ago because he could no longer take his father’s anger and criticism. He left behind his father, mother, brother and grandfather and his best friend, Brenna. He is determined to prove to himself and especially his father that he can make it on his own and become successful. He does not return home until he receives word that his father has been shot in the back and killed. When he gets back home, he realizes how much he has missed his family and his home and especially Brenna. He realizes that he no longer has a chance to mend things with his father, and that is one regret he will always carry with him.

Brenna remembers when Ash left her and all the heartache she felt after he was gone. She has tried to move on with her life, even going so far as to become engaged. But old feelings are hard to forget and after seeing Ash once again, Brenna realizes she has never gotten over Ash. Will they be able to get over past heartaches and have a second chance at love?

Besides the murder of Ash’s father, someone is targeting either Ash or Brenna and making attempts at their lives. They were both almost hit by a speeding car twice and a fire was set on Brenna’s ranch. Which one is the intended victim and what is the reason behind the attempts? They need to find out the answers to these questions before the murder attempt becomes successful.

The mysteries involved in the story were both carried on throughout the entire book and although I had figured out the who, I did not know the why.

Maybe it is because I was born in a city and grew up in a suburb, but I love a good country story to swoon over. To escape to a place where cute, sweaty, hardworking cowboys say "ma'am" and save their hearts for true love.

"He had the loose easy stride of a cowboy. His muscles, toned from years of ranching, rippled beneath the sleeves of his plaid shirt. His dark hair...."

Ok, you get it. Hot stuff.

Ash has lived through some hard times and has a mystery (or two) on his hands. With a full cast of suspicious (in my opinion) characters, I found myself constantly changing my mind as to "whodunit." I just had to find out! The more I read, the more I couldn't seem to get enough of it.

The Maverick of Copper Creek was a nice sweet read, with a twist. Gotta love that! With tears in my eyes (happy or sad....you need to find out for yourself), I am looking forward to the next book in this series. Another hot brother's story! ~ Krissy, 4 (hat tippin') stars.

There’s something about cowboys that I can’t seem to get enough of, so when the opportunity to read The Maverick of Copper Creek arose, I grabbed it both hands and sat back to enjoy the ride. This book took me back to one of my favorite cowboy states, Montana, and introduced me to a slew of new characters – and one in particular that I would like to get to know a little bit better.

When Ash MacKenzie left Copper Creek nearly a decade ago to strike out on his own, he never intended to stay gone for so long. He wanted the chance to prove himself worthy, but leaving like he did broke the hearts of many...especially Brenna Crane.
