Comment: This book has already been loved by someone else. It MIGHT have some wear and tear on the edges, have some markings in it, or be an ex-library book. Over-all it is still a good book at a great price! (if it is supposed to contain a CD or access code, that may be missing)

Took this on a trip to Panama with me, where neither me nor my friend spoke spanish. I know, like, VERY little. And we managed to do everything with this translator. Order food. Change a flight. Buy tickets. Ask for directions. It's organized in such a way all you have to do is flip to a section such as "eating out" and it lists all the common phrases and questions and answers you'll need to order your meal. I recommend this book 1,000 times over. I used it. And without it, I would have hardly been able to get by.

I went to a bunch of bookstores and checked all the reviews for just the right phrasebook.

What I was looking for: small, easy to navigate, front cover with super basic stuff, Latin America specific

This was exactly what I got. It's very small so it'l be little weight while backpacking. The first few pages have all the basics. It's really easy to navigate. Many of the other books where too confusing and you had to search a long time for what you wanted. I've looked up a few things already and you just flip to the front, look through the category, go to the page, and there it is! The book is not too busy and it has just the amount of info you need. It also comes with a tiny dictionary in the back, which will be of use I'm sure. As far as the dialects, there is a country abbreviation next to phrases and words so you know where it is used the most.

I was very picky about my phrasebook and I'm so glad I got this one.

As there's been enough praise from other readers, I will skip that and focus on the small defects instead. One glaring error: The alphabet on page 13 has a number of ridiculous mistakes. This shouldn't have happened given that only a little bit of proofreading would have gotten it corrected. I also wish the book had used bold, underline, or upper case -- which are employed in this book's competitors -- for the stressed syllables; the italics is often not obvious enough. Other than that, I'm happy with the book.

I speak intermediate level Spanish, so I just packed this as an emergency back up and never cracked it open until I got home. I really wish I had spent more time in it before I traveled! It has some fascinating insights, as well as providing context for my vocabulary and verb conjugations. I don't think you'd need to speak much Spanish to make good use of it, but even as an intermediate speaker who didn't "need" it, it was a great supplement to my studies.

I didn't realize this phrasebook would be so small! It's only about the size of a passport and a bit thicker. I haven't used it for my trip to South America, but it seems to be well laid out and easy to navigate. It's a great tool for a backpacker needing a Spanish reference. I'm hoping to study this book a bit before our trip so we don't need to rely on it so much as a crutch!

I am a beginner with no previous knowledge of Spanish, studying simultaneously with three books. This phrase book is my clear favorite. No complicated word constructions. Real life scenarios. Not just ordering food, drink and asking if the room comes with running water. Includes 'sweet talk', and the 'get lost'. Also detailed phrases for border controls, police stations, pharmacies and, God forbid you should need them, "el medico".

The best part is when they show you what fast talking RESPONSES to expect from a native speaker, after YOU said what what the book suggested you should say.

I got this for my 4th trip to South America. I have used a variety of language aids but find this to be the most useful tool of any. More useful than even electronic aids.

My Spanish Skills are non-existent. This little book is fantastic and easy to navigate. I really liked that words and phrases were spelled out phonetically. Best 8 bucks you'll spend for your trip. 5 stars.
