I bought this about a month before I planned my trip to Portugal. And since I really only knew about Porto and Lisbon, this book made my 10 day trip to Portugal worth every minute. It really helped point out destinations that I wouldn't have considered before. We also used it in the car driving up the highway. We would see a big brown sign with a name/picture of a historic site, then flip through the book to find it to see if we wanted to make a quick stop there. We found amazing castles and other sites by doing this. We also found a couple of our hotels in the back too. We only travel cheaply, and there were very good budget hotels in the back.

We love Rick Steve's travel guides but the EYEWITNESS guides provide a different perspective with more history and photograps not to mention the 3Dd illustrations. Great book!

Traveled to Portugal for a 8-day trip, visiting Lisbon and Porto. We found this useful for the historical information and liked the pictures, but found it lacking in terms of maps and logistics information. How do you get to/from the airport? Which port tasting tours are the best? What is "must see" in Lisbon and what is optional? How do you buy a tram ticket? That kind of information is nowhere in this book. On the other hand, you do get really nice glossy pictures/diagrams of historical monuments.
Next time, we'll probably stick with Lonely Planet.
