As a resident of Panama, I find this book very useful when exploring the country. Access to the internet is not always possible, but Lonely Planet can help you find a hotel and a good place for a meal with or without a computer. Once you have slept and have something in your tummy, you can always explore other options.

This book is very informative, has a lot of information about anything you need to know about Panama. It covers all kinds of things you didn't even know to look for. All the areas of Pamana are covered completely. The maps are really good and detailed. This will definately help us plan our trip to Pamama this year. We highly recommend this book to anyone who is considering taking a trip or like us possibly relocating there.

I won't say this book didn't help us, but Panama is changing so quickly that a TON of the information was wrong. The prices listed for just about everything were wrong. The hours were often wrong. So, just be sure to double check things like hours, and bring extra money because the prices are very off.

It's basically impossible to find a map of Panama City (not to mention there's no street signs anyway) so the maps in here did help us a bit. The restaurant advice isn't that helpful because the restaurants also change so quickly...just go somewhere in a decent neighborhood that doesn't look sketchy and you'll be fine.

A lot of the practical advice was pretty useful. I speak Spanish but if I hadn't, I think the Spanish phrases/words in the back would have been useful. I looked at them and it seems their translations were pretty good.

I booked all our hotels using TripAdvisor and it worked out great so you don't need a book like this to book hotels.

There are limited guidebooks available for Panama, so this is probably better than nothing, but I've had much better experiences with guidebooks on other trips (i.e. Rick Steves Paris and Italy). With a trip to Panama, just be flexible because, for example, some of the cool sites we saw weren't even listed in the book...make your plans loosely and find fun things as you go.

This is a good guide to Panama. The maps are a little challenging to use, since they are divided up across many pages. Would prefer to have a city map of streets as a fold out for reference while traveling.

This Book met all of my expectations since I was there last year and saw its tremendous growth from the last time that I was there in October 2001. This issue picked up where I left off and then proceeded to inform it's readers of where Panama is today and it's economic growth rate.

For those interesting in Visiting, Vacationing, or looking for a second Home should start with this book for in depth details on Panama and what it has to offer.
