Frommer's is introducing the Easy Guide series in 2014, and this particular example proves that this travel guide publisher is back from near obscurity.

Frommer's came late to the full-color party and almost disappeared as mainstream publishers like DK Eyewitness, Lonely Planet, Fodor and Rough Guide introduced flashy new color formats. What those publishers did NOT do, however, is introduce a fresh way of presenting travel content. Underneath all the gloss, those books offer the same "what to see, where to stay, where to eat" encyclopedic format.

This book does essentially the same thing, but the content here is far more genuine, organized and accessible. All travel guides are trying harder to give their readers better, more substantial and critical content. Rick Steves', for example, makes this a priority in his books, and these Easy Guides feel similar in presentation to the Rick Steves' guides.

Don't expect glossy color content. The name of the game here is simplicity. The material is purposefully filtered and selective, and the entries are concise and right up to date. There's a cautiously irreverent tone to the book that let's you know that the writers have done their homework. This book is better organized and prioritized than any other New Orleans guide I've seen.

Though something of a cliche, this book really IS like having a local tour guide in your pocket. While it is a decidedly classical "on the beaten track" guide, the reviews are as insightful as they are selective. This is a very, very good guide for first-time AND many-time visitors. There's excellent material dedicated to the important festivals of New Orleans, including Mardi Gras and Jazz Fest.

Frommer's easy guide New Orleans book was such a good investment. It was "easy" to check out restaurants and hotels. It also included out of the way places which were extremely interesting. If you were on a budget (as we were) the guide suggested places that were less expensive.

When planning our recent trip to New Orleans, I had relied mainly on on line resources which were very helpful, but required a lot of switching around between pages and web sites. Shortly before going, I felt like it would be nice to have a portable, light weight resource which could be flipped through quickly and ordered this book. It fit the bill quite nicely - the book easily fit into my bag and had good maps, good recommendations. and interesting information. We did use our tech devices for directions, transit information, and up to date reviews, but I was glad I had this old school book - it was definitely worth the purchase

Easy to read. Easy to find what you are looking for. Skimmed through it before trip, used it as a bible during trip. Worth the purchase.
