The paper quality is very durable, lots of nice glossy photos and loads of info.

The book itself is heavy to carry with you, but the pull out map is great and you can easily plan your day and then just use the map.

After previewing several London travel books at the library, I decided that the DK Eyewitness guide was best for me.

If that is London calling for you, you better rush right out and buy yourself a copy of DK's London guide. I have just finished my trip to London & Scotland, using both of the DK guides and once again, I felt they provided what I needed to take a relatively short span of time and help me to decide what the plan A (must see) and plan B (would like to see, but ok to drop if needed) items would be. In all of the guides, including this one, there is history, a description of the times to go, what the weather may be like, any festivals, etc, a breakdown by area, and my most favorite thing of all the full color, glossy drawings and pictures of the sites, including street maps, cut aways and detailed information about the most popular sites. In the back is survival info...all the things you want to know but might not want to ask. I am the planner of the trips in my family, so it is really nice to be able to put an agenda together then be able to have a good visual to show hubby to see what he thinks. I have found all of the guides to be very well done and London was no exception. I felt that I really maximized my time and I knew what to expect going there. The one area that I have to admit I don't use much is the restaurant/hotel section. I just never seem to find exactly what I want there, and go to other sources, mostly online for that piece, but overall, a really well done guide and excellent resource. If London is calling, you would be doing yourself a favor in picking up this book to help you guide your planning. It is money well spent.

This guide is well worth the investment. The pull out map is also very helpful and a must have. The breakdown by neighborhood with highlights helps to ensure you plan accordingly without missing any major sights.

I bought this because I'm planning a trip to London next year. I'm familiar with the DK Eyewitness series, I own many of them, this did not dissapoint. I prefer DK to Fodor's even Frommers most of the time. They all give detailed reviews of activities, hotels, restaurants etc. However, the edge that DK has is the awesome photography. It is great to see pictures of the places that they are describing. It helps me to narrow down the places that I want to visit. I'm a fan of DK travel series and will stick with them the next time I need a travel book.

After previewing several London travel books at the
library, I decided that the DK Eyewitness guide
was best for me.

Great information, great visuals, guided walks,
a little heavy but relativiely compact. Best
feature: the city and transportation maps.

I am pleased enough with the purchase to
believe that for my next trip, I'll be
heading towards an Eyewitness Travel
guide book again.

This book is noteably pretty big - so it's not necessarily one that you'd want to bring around with you, but had great detail about the history of different places, an AWESOME pull out map, and even a map of the Tube. I'd recommend getting a few weeks before your trip to figure out what you might want to see while you're there:)

I usually buy Fodors, and I did for our cruise, but I liked using the two books together. I would read Fodors, then go to DK for the pictures and maps. I'll take the DK book with me on my trip, but I think I needed both to do the planning. Neither was sufficient on its own. Fodors helped me limit the choices to what I really wanted to see, and DK helped me find it on the map and showed me pictures to help make my final decisions. Also, Fodors gave me the transportation specifics of which route or bus to use, then the DK showed me where the train station was and where it was in relation to the other attractions.

Wonderful pictures, clearly organized, and concise. Great resource for planning activities without spending a great deal of time on research.

I don't think it is enough on its own, but is a good one to read in conjunction with one or two other guidebooks.

What I love is the brief intros to history; the illustrations and photos that help you identify and anticipate the sights you will see, and points that you should notice. The book provides a beginning, a hint of what you will see. It does not tell you what to think. Great maps. There is nothing like color printing to contrast different regions. Why suffer through black and white maps.

What I don't love is the heavy paper, the heavy weight of the book.
