Am I the only reviewer who feels let down by this Zagat 2014?
I'm disappointed by the lack of critical reviews--it renders the guide less useful than it claims to be.
The restaurants all seem to receive positive (even glowing!) food reviews, none less than the "good to very good" grade.
I've been to a number of these restaurants and some were decidedly mediocre!
The book is helpful for addresses, price range and a vague idea of the restaurant's atmosphere, but mostly the guide feels like an advertisement for the included restaurants.

Zagat is always the best when it comes to restaurants. My wife and I were in NYC for a weekend, stayed at a new (but terrible) motel in Jamaica, Queens, and found a wonderful Portuguese restaurant (O Lavrador) nearby, which we would never have found if we hadn't brought the Zagat 2014 that we had purchased for the trip. Fantastic food, reasonable prices (which means a lot if you're talking about NYC) great atmosphere, great service. Best restaurant experience I have had in many years. It is a hidden gem.

I don't get to the Big Apple every day, but when I do I love to try different restaurants/ cuisine/ dining experiences. Obviously, the city can be overwhelming, so it's nice to have a guide in order to plan the trip and the dining destinations in terms of price as well. I have relied on this guide for years. I don't always buy it every year, but at least every other year. The size is also convenient; it's easy to stick in a purse and take along on the trip. When I go in a big group, others wish they had their own copy.
