As I travel through my retirement years, I chose to do my homework with DK Eyewitness. This updated guide of Turkey provides a sufficient narrative of the culture and the history for the casual traveler and provides good information about food and drink, media and communication, and the all important info about local and regional transportation. The photographs, illustrations and maps are in color, and I love that the guide is highly organization by region. When you have a short period of time to spend in a new country, you really need to plan your trip carefully. I'm obviously a fan of DKE.
Now about the 2014 Turkey DKE: I own a 2003 DKE Turkey, borrowed a 2010 DKE Turkey, and purchased the 2014 DKE Turkey as a gift for my travel companion who usually signs up with a tour company. Let's face it, the only meaningful updates are in the hotel and restaurant section. History doesn't change but the updated and improved photographs are noted. Save your money if you have access to an older edition and check on-line for restaurant and hotel recommendations provided in various websites by travelers with experience. Same with transportation and communication. Use the guide to plan your day and you'll be very happy you picked a DKE guide to do so.
