Rare to find a World War I atlas this good, and I know of none so affordable.

Purchased at Half Price Books new for $12.95 since Amazon did not have a look inside. I had thought it would have been like most military atlases of this type, but it was not. If amazon had a Look Inside I would have purchased if earlier. These are some of the best aspects of it:
1. Large Format
2. Many Maps are like the one on the cover that give a general strategic view. The colors only make it easier to digest the information on the map.
3. Coverage of both Western, Italian, Balkan, and Eastern Fronts is good for a strategic view over the years of the war.
4. Although there are no real tactical maps (except some simplified ones), there are maps covering most every campaign showing major units involved (usually Army and Corps level, but sometimes division level).
5. It is an Atlas, not a picture book so there are only about half a dozen photos in the entire book. What you get is maps - lots of them and that is what should be expected from an Atlas
You will find things missing that you may want such as details on certain battles, but only so much can be covered and the author has put together a nice collection that will please the novice or the armchair general.
As mentioned, I was reluctant to order the book until I could see both the material covered and the usefulness of the maps. It is well worth any price under $20 and one of very few I would recommend covering any war.

Would that all historical atlases were this good! Over 150 pages of maps plus introduction, table of combat strength per country, and an Index. Maps are a mixture of the expected (Ypres) and unexpected (U-Boats, Airship Raids), and easy to read. Plus, it's hardbound! Rare to find a World War I atlas this good, and I know of none so affordable.

At this price it's hard to go wrong.

Visually, it's a treat. It's comprehensive with colorfull maps and details galore.

This book plots the exact course of the air, sea and land campaigns of WW1, and traces the ebb and flow of every major battle in every country the war touched with supporting maps and details to identify the commanders of many offensive and defensive units and their troop strength as battles rage.

Plus, it gives careful attention to details like convoy plans, stormtrooper tactics, U-boat losses, blockade effectiveness, idealistic treaties, Airship raids, airplane bombings, military casualties, and nearly everything else involved in the war that had a bearing on its outcome.

This book is one not to miss. And as someone else commented with delight, it costs less than 20 Bucks!
