BRENT PETERSON is former editor of RV View, a magazine devoted to the technical aspects of owning an RV, and is editor-at-large for Woodall’s Publishing, home to seven consumer titles about RV travel. Brent is a frequent contributor to Coast to Coast and Roads to Adventure magazines, and his weekly “RV Guy” column, detailing his unique take on RVing, appears in 35 online newspaper Web sites.
This was a simple and well-written book that provided just the right amount of information for somebody like me who is entertaining the notion of jumping into the RV lifestyle. Until reading this book, I knew next to nothing about RV's. I was particularly nervous about the various "systems" of an RV, like plumbing and electrical. This book did an excellent job describing how those systems worked in a way that a knucklehead like me could understand.
I feel much better equipped go out looking for the perfect RV after reading this book. I definitely recommend it to anyone new to RV's.

I was hoping this book would be helpful for all recreational vehicle owners, including fifth wheelers like myself, but was disappointed to find that this book is geared primarily towards the motor home owners. If you have a motor home it does look like this book would be very thorough and complete, but if you're more interested in trailering or fifth wheeling I would not recommend this book for you.

I try to write helpful reviews rather than just saying I like or dislike it, I try to give some information lacking in the description of the item.
In this case, the book is almost excellent. It contains a few chapters on how to purchase the right RV, which I don't understand being in a book with guidance on RVing. Should not, 'How to buy an RV' be a separate book? Removing this information would reduce the price (I would hope) of the book and still fulfill the title's promise. I mean, I've already got the RV and really don't want to review all the mistakes I've made in that project!
The rest of the book has some very good tips and information. Now that I've been out camping with my RV twice, I find that the book contains just a couple of mistakes, but none of them are of great significance and aren't worth condemning the book. Just be sure to get the latest edition.
Worth noting is one missing bit of info (or maybe I just didn't see it). That is, camping in State Parks. Some State Parks and other 'lower-end' camping sites do offer water, but not the 'standard' garden hose connection. In anticipation of this, the RVer wants to obtain and have on hand the http://www.amazon.com/Camco-22484-Water-Bandit/dp/B000EDOSKG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1390188359&sr=8-1&keywords=water+thief (Water Bandit). Since this device won't hold pressure, the RVer will want to have one or more of those screw clamps to screw down on the connection. Some 'water sources' are the kind you'd attach a hose to (not threaded -- much like you might find in a chemistry lab). You'll need the Water Bandit for this connection, and a clamp to hold it to the connection to handle the pressure.
The book offers some useful outline lists/charts as well as chapter summaries. If you are new to RVing and don't have anyone to guide you into this adventure, you'll want to have this book well read before embarking on your first outing. Good camping!

Just purchased a 2007 Fleetwood Class C Tioga 31m. No adult experience as an RVer, but this book has given my husband and me a new sense of confidence that our future will include some great RV adventures. This book leaves nothing unexplained. I recommend even seasoned RVers try this book, they might discover some new tips! RV S.C.

I have only been RVing for 2 seasons (novice) (WNY summers are short). You can count my trips on 1 hand!. READ this book before YOU BUY an RV. It will help you in the process. A lot of Great points. The 1 recommendation I will make is read the chapter on "picking the right RV for you and your family. I now have "buyers remorse" because I purchased too small of a travel trailer for the family. If I decide to trade up, it will cost me at least $3000 if not more. After knowing this, I was about to sign on the "dotted line" to upgrade and I read a segment that said "Ok, you did your research on the RV you want, now what about the dealer?". I never, thought to check out the RV dealership. I was shocked to find out they had a D- rating in BBB. Most complaints on customer service or lack of service to the used RV's sold. This book put me in the right direction, as I now feel more comfortable in future endeavors. I decided to stick with my travel trailer for the time being.

Excellent in all respects and enjoyed reading. I been camping for some time now but pick up some good info throughout. Read as ebook but kinda wish I had the paper book to more quickly in use as reference book easier. Well written and edited as well.

I read everything I could get my hands on about RVs before we purchased one, and this book has become my "go to" resource for all things RV-ing. It explains mechanics, fluidics, and electronics in ways that helped us understand how to select and maintain our RV. A must-read for those considering a purchase of an RV of any class as it covers all the styles and provides questions to help you analyze your needs, tastes and preferences. We re-read sections any time we have questions about our RV, and even take it with us on the road.
