Elise Hartman Ford has written for the Washington Post, Washingtonian Magazine, Ladies Home Journal, National Parks Magazine, Home and Abroad travel web site and countless other publications and guidebooks. She is the author of the best-selling travel app, Washington,DC * A to Z. She resides in Washington, D.C.
We're happy to see the Frommer's guidebooks series continuing, and the DC book especially, since we travel to DC a lot. This new version, EasyGuide, gets straight to the point about all the essentials, getting around and so on, but what we really like are the author's inside tips about what's worth seeking out at the museums and other attractions. You can tell that the author is in and out of these places all the time. We also really like the walking tours. We've always found Frommer's DC hotel and restaurant reviews to be reliable, and we like that the book includes places that have been around for a while, like Old Ebbitt Grill, and also some of the newest hotspots, like Daikaya, a Japanese restaurant near the Verizon Center.

One of the most frustrating things about living in Washington, DC, is having out-of-town friends visit with the expectation that you'll be their personal guide to all the wonders the city holds. But, like most people who live AND work in D.C., I don't have the time. Thanks goodness for Elise Hartman Ford and her new Frommer's EasyGuide to my town. Since it was published late last year, I've purchased several copies and keep them on the hall table next to the front door. I had a troop of relatives and friends circulate through town during the holidays, and were they ever pleased to be shown the delights of the town by the EasyGuide. I don't know how the author managed, but the guide is beyond up to date, talking about 2014's museum exhibits, the newest bistros and bars, as well as the au courant restaurants in all the hot spots in town. And, the guide doesn't neglect the old reliables, like the Tune Inn on Capitol Hill and Ben's Chili Bowl on U St. I've recommended the EasyGuide to all my neighbors, and I certainly recommend it to anyone wanting a handy handbook on their first, or next, trip to the Capital City.

I use my iphone and apps for information when I travel, but I also like using a guidebook, so I can flip easily through the pages to find just what I'm looking for, as I travel around. This DC guide, which is small enough to fit in my purse, is fun to read and offers unexpected little tips, like how to attend concerts and other events at embassies, or the fact that across the street from the National Zoo is a Starbucks that opens at 6am, same time as the zoo grounds open. It's not just reliable, it's indispensable, and I would recommend this guide to anyone going to DC.

We always prefer to buy Frommer's books over Fodor's when traveling! It's filled with everything you need to know about the places you are visiting. Gives great detail and we like how Ms. Ford gives her personal preferences and helpful hints. Especially like the included tear-out maps. This particular edition is also very slim and will be easy to take along with us.

I love this guide book. It doesn't make you wade through hundreds of pages of extra info. It cuts to the important stuff. I especially love the walking tours.

I bought this book in preparation for a four day weekend to DC, and it was a great tool. I read up a little bit before we went and in the car ride to the city. The walking guides are great, all the little historical facts are also really neat. I especially like that I can fit the book in my bag and when we stopped to rest on a lawn or grab food we could read up and choose our next destination or learn about the area we were in. Will definitely lend this book to any friends headed up to DC for a weekend, and if I go back it will definitely be going with me.

Frommer's is always a great guide to visit any city in the world. I have used their books for multiple vacations in the past. However the only thing I ever find them lacking is an index in the back. There is a table of contents, but sometimes I like to be able to find exactly what I am looking for with a quick look.

The amount of information packed into this book is amazing. I bought it shortly before travelling to DC. I was able to see so many more sights since I was able to plan out my days with no waste of time wandering around. The book also includes a very useful map, which I relied on heavily. The info on the museums was current, and the restaurant recommendations were good as well. If you are planning a visit to DC, this book is invaluable.
