It is very well organized, easy to use, and includes information and photos not only of what is there now, but also of historic structures lost to fire or demolition.

If you are visiting Savannah, I definitely recommend using this as your guide to the historic downtown area of Savannah. The book is very informative without overwhelming you with too much information that you cannot comprehend it all. I live in Savannah and I keep this book in my Guest Room. When I have visitors stay with us, they always comment on the book and want to use it while they are visiting the downtown area! The price is great and the pictures are beautiful!

This book has a brief history of Savannah. It has pictures of the monuments and main buildings of downtown. The tours suggested in the book are great for anyone living or visiting the city. Plus, you can't beat the price.

This tour book of Savannah is a must-have if you are planning to do a self-guided walking tour. Wow! We took 4 of the 5 tours and although it was considerable walking, the book tells you how far it is and how long it will take and you can plan accordingly. It has pictures as well as descriptions so you are able to find the places better. It explains the squares and makes everything real and interesting. It was great to move at our own leisure and learn along the way. We had taken the trolley tour first, and still found this informative and fun. This is the best walking tour book we have owned. And Amazon has it for $5.95! Very affordable. Highly recommended. I wish the author would write one for Charleston. The one we had from there was not as easy to understand and had no pictures of buildings nor gave us any idea whatsoever how far it was or how long each tour would take.

When I went to Savannah for the first time, I bought this book in the Visitor's Center gift shop (10% off). It was the best decision I made the entire trip. You could pay $20 per person to ride in a trolley around town, but even in the week after Christmas it was warm enough for an enjoyable walk. This book gives the history of each stop and, in some cases, a picture of what used to be - something you can't get on the more expensive tours. Plus you get to spend as much time as you want at each stop instead of just passing by the beautiful squares and mansions. The only downside: very sore legs the next day.

I was only in Savannah for a day and I used this guide the entire time. Yah- you can get little maps from the Trolley or Bus Tour companies for free-but what I found is that they didn't always have the exact locations of where certain famous houses, museums, statues are....they just have their pick up locations listed.

This book has pictures of the sights, as well as where they are located in the squares/streets. It is about 20 pages of full color pictures and maps. There is also brief descriptions about the top historical sites (homes) of interest-- which is great for when you get back and look at your 400 pictures and try to remember what house is what!

If you want to wonder around in the Historic District for a few days, and not carry around a heavy travel book -I would purchase this one!

Unfortunately, I did not have access the guide until the day before I left Savannah and I wish I had had a copy on the days when I was actually wandering aroung the historic district and the squares. The guide provided an easily doable traverse of the more interesting places in the city and gave pertinent information about each stop along the way. I found it particularly helpful when I got home and was attempting to label the many pictures I had taken. The excellent photos in the book made it easy to identify a particular landmark as well as providing interesting information about it. The historical photos were also great, in that they allowed me to see what some of the buildings had looked like in their original forms. I would highly recommend this to anyone going to Savannah for the first time. It may even be helpful for those familiar with the town. On one of my days in the city, we went on a short walking tour with a friend who is a Savannah native and the guidebook was able to clarify things that he was not aware of.
