This travel guide was very well written with short, detailed information on a number of sights. It included hotel and restaurant recommendations, a survival guide with practical information and it also included a pull out map. The map was okay, but not as detailed as I would have liked. I did like the fact that when the map was folded there was an excellent easy to read map of the city metro system. Some of the other listings in the guide were related to shopping tips, a glossary of typical Catalan food, eating hours (meal times), entertainment information, music, film...etc. I actually used one of the restaurant recommendations and it was spot on. A great meal at around the price reflected in the guide. We also saw the Flamenco show (Tablao de Carmen) which was also recommended and it was fabulous. There are several show options and we chose the show with tapas menu. We were supposed to get five Tapas and sangria and all I can say is that the food just kept coming and when we finished a pitcher of sangria another was quickly brought to us. The meal was excellent and a great value. The Flamenco show itself was incredible - very professional with a live band and singers as well as three female and one male dancer.

I always buy these books when I travel, find them helpful. The book on Barcelona was sorely in need of updating - a number of restaurants and stores were no longer around. The book notes that many things are open till 8pm, however it should also note that the Catalonians close up shop around 3 or 4 for siesta! I found myself going on Tripadvisor quite often to see what was still around.

I already owned the Rick Steves & Lonely Planet Barcelona guide books, but decided to purchase this due to the extensive photos and recommendations from a friend. I'm so glad I did as this book gave us a much better visual of the areas, and was the book I carried around with me while touring. It also includes more sites, including minor ones in the area that the other books do not mention. By learning about these other sites, we were able to vary our walking routes a little and see some interesting sites we otherwise wouldn't have known existed. The street/area picture diagrams were so helpful. I also purchased the Rome version of this book, and again was so glad I did for the same reasons.

On the flipside, I don't think the info was thorough enough to be the only guidebook to a city. It was the perfect companion to my Rick Steves book, but lacked the information about how to get tickets in advance, skip the long admission lines, and background info that Rick Steves gives. Rick Steves has very few photos, and doesn't include many of the extra sites around the major sites, so having both books was extremely helpful.

I usually swear by the Eyewitness guides. They are so easy to use and read and have great information. This one is a good one, but a bit flawed compared to other guides. First, there are several mistakes in the book, including incorrect labeling on maps. Second, I find this book to lack some of the good insight of other eyewitness books, and a bit lacking in detail. Overall it was a good book, just a bit disappointing compared to others.

The DK eyewitness series of books for travelling to Europe are the best money can buy, and very user friendly.

This DK Eyewitness Travel Book like all others is an excellent tour book. Isometric drawings, color photographs, maps and descriptions are the typical hallmarks of the DK travel books. While my wife and I are still interested in going to Barcelona, after reading this book there appears to not be much of interest to us there. Of course the famous architect Antonio Gaudi has three works we would love to see; Casa Batllo, Park Guell and of course the Sagrada Familia. Actually any of Gaudi’s works would be considered a treat to visit. The only other things in Barcelona of interest to us is the Barcelona Cathedral and the Museu d’Historia de la Cuitat-Placa del Rei. Figueres is the birthplace of the famous surrealist painter Salvadore Dali. The Casa-Museu Castell Gala Dali is an old castle redone as an art museum for Dali’s work. The Costa Brava and a tour into the Pyenees would be a fun excursion. Don’t get me wrong, Barcelona would be a beautiful place to visit and this tour book helped us realize that if we go, it would be for just a few days.

My wife and I just spent a week in Barcelona, a wonderful city. This guide provides good help in figuring out how to explore the city and what to see. It was organized geographically, but would have been enhanced if it also had some organization by themes (e.g., Gaudi architecture, which is spread all over). The guide, like others, is also a great keepsake for memories.
